Perfect timing. Just finished the rulebook. This playthrough helped enforce the rules and was entertaining to follow along with the chat. Thanks Paul!

Thanks, just be aware some mistakes were made at the end.
      1. We should have won, because we could have applied bleed before recover at one point and won (apparently).
      2. That final battle was Day 7. We could have had 1 more day.
      3. I should not have been able to buff Nugget with those buff HP

The production quality of this is insane.

This is my favorite game and I have a large (300+) game collection. One of the most enjoyable things I have done is to introduce new players to the game by acting as a GM and walking them through the pertinent rules as they come up. This way they can enjoy it and focus on just learning how to play their chosen Gearloc.
If anyone is interested in trying Too Many Bones, I highly recommend trying to find someone that can teach it to you while you play. If you can't, I would suggest reading the rules and then watch some videos like this (Chip Theory Games also has TH-cam videos for each Gearloc). These videos are a great way to reinforce your understanding on how to play.

@@jl3612 It is going to be difficult to find a board game that gives a similar feel to Diablo (I am also a fan). I think the lure of looting in video games is related to how frequently you are picking up new items and seeing them equipped on your character. Progression and looting tends to be much slower in board games. Looting also tends to work much differently than just killing an enemy. Loot that does drop from an enemy usually ends up being a resource (coin, wood, hides, stone, etc...) that is used to craft or spend on items in most of the board games I play.
If he likes rolling Dice, Dice Throne Adventures has a good loot system. The game uses a Yahtzee type mechanic with you playing Heroes in a cooperative dungeon crawl. It is very abstract, but has quite a bit of looting. One other game that might be a possibility, but I don't know if the style of the game would be interesting, is Pathfinder Adventure Card Game. Both of these games use cards for their looting and use a deck-building mechanic to progress your character. Of the two games, I think Dice Throne Adventure would be the one I would consider first, but do your homework as to whether or not he would enjoy the game based on the game mechanics. Looting won't make up for a game he doesn't enjoy playing.
One more thing to note about Dice Throne Adventures is that you have to purchase some Heroes separately. I would recommend looking on boardgamegeek.com/dashboard as a good source of information on this game as well as others. The forums are very active and may be able to give you some other game ideas as well.
      Good Luck!

3:04:15 you should have won at that point, since nom has bleed and recover that practically cancel each other out. BUT you can pick the order in what happens first if the timing of effects is at the same time. So bleed and recover happen at the start of nom's turn, apply the bleed firstf and nom dies

This was very helpful - looking forward to watching more!
Something worth noting that didn't come up here... If you have a melee gearloc up against Nom with no supporting baddies, you are not going to get many (or any) attacks against him. After he knocks you to the far corner, you won't be able to reach him, but he will be able to reach you. As long as he rolls clubs (66%) he is just going to play golf until you're dead.
You either need a gearloc that can deliver massive damage from range (e.g. Ghillie) or one that can deliver bleed/poison - preferably from range, although something like Tantrum's Poison Armor can help.
This battle is a good intro to the game, highlighting the puzzle nature of the bosses and the importance of understanding how you need to fight them before you take your first skill point.
    Thanks for the great channel!

Thanks for this video. Too Many Bones is a game I have been looking at wistfully since I saw it at the last UK games expo, I loved the look, style and literal feel of the game but I didn't know much about how the game played. I must say having watched your playthrough I believe this is definitely a game I would enjoy....a lot.

Having finally seen this played, it’s makes me respect SU&SD’s review more. Seems like Quinns got it spot on...

Wonderful playthrough and explanation of the game. Which brings back some recurring thoughts: this is a 2017 game and for the love of me I can’t understand why some games don’t get translated to Italian (or German, French or Spanish in this case). There’s a lot of text on the characters’ sheets, it would benefit a lot from a localization. But no, apparently local publishers deemed the game wouldn’t sell to the point of justifying a translation... 😞 Also the price on this one doesn’t help.
Then again I look at some of the recent translations I got and have seconds thoughts on really needing translations 🤣

3:04:30 you should have won. He had one health on his turn. Yes he has bleed and recover, but you can have bleed apply first and he dies.
