- Siem Reap and Angkor Wat are very impressive places! I did not plan on coming here, but then it just happened, that I came to Cambodia. I immediately have fallen in love with the Cambodian people, and the city of Siem Reap has a little something for everyone. From river walks, to markets, shopping, parties, and a fantastic culinary scene. I also did learn about the heart breaking history, by visiting the memorial sight, it was more painful then I could imagine. However, the resiliency and beauty of the people here is incredible. I was completely blown away at the history of Angkor Wat, a must visit if you are in the Country. This has been one of my best trips yet.

Geez, I want to go to Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam so bad! But the hubby is not so enthusiastic. I would love to visit Kaavan at the Cambodia Wildlife Sanctuary. I left the country back in 1979 after I had to live through the genocide under Pol Pot killing madness. Most of my family members did not survive as we were forced to move out of the Phnom Penh City in 1975 to work in the rice fields. I was just in my senior year of my high school then.
I've returned to visit my sole surviving sister every year for the last ten years since my retirement from Minnesota , US to heal the past. It's very safe to visit Cambodia now as the country has come a long way since the prolonged civil war was officially ended upruptly in 1998.
Be mindful of your surroundings . Be kind whenever possible. It's always possible as life is short to do the things we don't love doing. Sharing is caring.

I did the visa run from Thailand in early 2019. Still here. Nicest people. Super laid back . A day trip to Beng Melea ( jungle covered city) and Koh Ker pyramid.
Siem Reap is a gem of a city ! -- Big enough but not too big for having everything you need. People are awesome welcoming the friendliest on the planet and most speak English. They even accept the USD ! -- Cost of living is very low both rent and food are real bargains. Appears to be a retirement hotspot for some 20,000 expats from many countries. 50 cent beer can even be had. --?--

Combined digital nomads -&- retired 'old farts' - like myself. -?- Check out the "retirement visa" for over 55 expats !!! (( amazing )) 🤔 Seriously considering Siem Reap myself (?) as opposed to remaining in 'Biden's America' !!! --?-- 🤗 Nearly 70% lower cost of living than the US 'average' ??? = About the equivalent to increasing ones income 3 times !?!?!

The new low-cost carrier is based at Cambodia's Phnom Penh International Airport (PNH), and from there, it will initially service the regional cities of Siem Reap and Sihanoukville. I'm currently planning my trip to Cambodia for November! Waited 15 years to go there and I'm trying to learn the language a bit as well. I do have one question for you (and maybe khmer people).. Is it ok to wear tops and shorts for tourists? Because I've read that you should always cover your shoulders and knees when in Cambodia, but I see in most videos they're wearing tops or short dresses. Do the Khmer people look at you differently when wearing tops or not? 🙈 I just really want to do it right for the people there ☺️

I can't speak for the people here, I can only say when you visit temples, out of respect, you cover your shoulders and knees. Any other place, shorts, or tank tops are okay. Cambodia is so amazing, and people are so beautiful. You will love it. I am very excited for you!❤️

Vietnam visa is so hard and silly compared to Cambodia....i semd a girl to school in siem reap
The land mines were put there by US forces, who were illegally there, and some from French who occupied before the Vietnam War.
I am so hurt to learned that Cambodia is not even exist for you.
There is nothing to be hurt about. This is my first time to Asia, everything is new for me. If you watched the video, you see how much I love Cambodia.
Good that you covered your shoulders with a shawl when visiting the temples. Your friend was inappropriately dressed with her mid riff exposed. No one probably said anything as they are too polite but the Park authorities do display signs and leaflets at most tourist hotels. I visited the Vatican once and they refused entry to my wife because her shoulders and armpits were exposed. We went back to our car and got a light jacket and then it was fine.
What many tourists do not understand is that Angkor Wat and all the other temples are not tourist attractions. They are first and foremost Buddhist temples and are actively used for religious ceremonies. Just like in Bali and many other places if you are allowed to visit you should show respect and wear appropriate clothing. It's just common courtesy.
You made the mistake of going to that country. I hope you are safe throughout your trip. May God protect you.
