The thing about this is in Napoleon Dynamite he was up front and one of the main characters. If he was in The Alamo he would of most likely been one of the no named back characters (like a random Mexican soldier) that you may or maiy not see cept once or maybe twice glaces. He clearly made the roght choice.
Thats a cool story. As an artist it has to feel good to be a part of something special and timeless that will continue on and get new fans with each generation rather than having gone after the big payday that probably wouldnt have gotten him anywhere in the long run anyway. Lots of actors are in lots of different big budget Hollywood films. But not many actors get to be part of a film that actually becomes part of our culture.
Absolutely, management wanted that juicy commission from the big movie. But management is supposed to nurture an actor's career. With all of those big name actors in The Alamo, Efren more than likely would have been lucky to be in a handful of scenes. In Napoleon, he was practically a second lead with a story arc. Management should've wanted to see him showcased if they cared about building his career.

I wanted to give him the picture without context as a joke, but thought he might get offended, the funny part is that my name happens to be Pedro LMAO
I remember saw it at my brothers place, thought it was hilarious, bought my own copy, made my mom watch it, afterwards she's like, "this is so dumb!" but then she repeatedly watched it over the weeks loving it just going "this is so dumb but I love it!" good times lol
As a fellow actor, I have been in his place many times. And most of the time, those Indies fail sadly. It is a winning lottery ticket and picked the right numbers, but HE PICKED them which makes it all that much sweeter. The other problem with making an Indie is the low pay. We all sacrifice it at first, but when a hit likes this happens, you don't get to reap the rewards financially, and it's almost never negotiated early on cause it's sort of a passion project with the pure hopes it will reach what ND has done. You then have to hope it will propel you on to other works that will pay. That is the life of an Indie actor. Congrats to Efren and being immortalized in this crazy world for something unique and fun. Great film, great actors...
Gotta hand it to him. He had amazing instincts about which flick to do, and with everything pointing the other way, he still followed his gut (which of course became a legendary role.) Great shit.

This is the same energy as the studio manager that lost Queen because he thought their music was "too long & whimsical."
Or the people who turned down the Beatles because "rock music is just a fad".
@@bob7975 Or the 10+ publishers that turned down JK Rowling.
Publishing just that series alone would have been enough to keep any company afloat for decades even if everything after Harry Potter was an utter flop, and at least 10 MFs passed up on it.
3:09 millions of people are grateful he made the choice to play Pedro , absolute classic 😂
It was a great movie. Glad you decided to play the part.
I don't know if they still sell them but a few years ago, around 2015, a small service station off I-95 in Vero had a rack of Napoleon Dynamite collectables like the "Vote for Pedro" buttons.
I love the movie. It's like a Wes Anderson film that actually turned out good. ;)
Good decision. My sister bought it for me when I was 15 or so when it came out for Christmas. I thought it was a joke and then I watched it. Great movie. I can't stand it when people think movies are good just because of animation and special effects. People who think that are usually nerdy or wasn't born in the 80s
He became a big fish in that small pond.
He is still recognized today.
His face still brings a smile to mine.
No one would know or remember him if he had chosen the Alamo.
Pedro for President 2024 !
cool and funny dude! Napoleon Dynamite is a 2000s classic!
The thing about this is in Napoleon Dynamite he was up front and one of the main characters.
If he was in The Alamo he would of most likely been one of the no named back characters (like a random Mexican soldier) that you may or maiy not see cept once or maybe twice glaces.
He clearly made the roght choice.
you made a cult masterpiece instead of a big studio piece of .....
I don't remember they even made that version of The Alamo. Like zero memory, and I watch a lot of movies. He made the right decision.
Alamo? Never heard of or watched it. You made the right choice.
Never heard of the Alamo, the movie...good f'n choice pedro!
Napoleon Dynamite is the bomb.I think about it all the time.
Love this man I worked at a store he would come into all the time Efren is probably one of the nicest and funniest guys. Glad I got to meet him
His management wanted the bigger paycheck. I get it, but, he made the right choice.
@@HRodz-eipx that's why them foolz was wrong
Bro, it was a pleasure to sit next to you on that Phoenix to Dallas-Forth-Worth flight. I'm sorry my coworker was weird and took a picture with you. Also, I'm not the dude next to you. I'm the dude with the white hat behind them. We are all coworkers. You're awesome, dude. By the way, I recognized you from Crank 2.
When I was in high school, I used to know this friend that looked exactly like Napoleon Dynamite, im talking same face, same slow voice, same manerisms, but I had no idea who Napoleon Dynamite was at the time, one day I was browsing through some jeans, when I pull out a tag with a picture of Napoleon Dynamite, I froze for a few seconds, thinking "What the fuck is Travis doing in my jeans?" I wanted to give him the picture without context as a joke, but thought he might get offended, the funny part is that my name happens to be Pedro LMAO
I remember saw it at my brothers place, thought it was hilarious, bought my own copy, made my mom watch it, afterwards she's like, "this is so dumb!" but then she repeatedly watched it over the weeks loving it just going "this is so dumb but I love it!" good times lol
Dude still looks like Pedro still to this day. Lmao!
Efren's dad: "Follow your heart".
Efren's agency: "What's a heart?"
Probably a j*w
The Alamo, 24% on Rotten Tomato. Napoleon Dynamite, 76% on Rotten Tomato
had no clue Pedro's dad played such a pivotal role in this classic lmao
Quick, name another movie where no one dies.
Envy... a horse dies, but no people
grandmas boy
Step Brothers
The Sandlot
Superbad
This movie should have swept the Oscars.
Preston just celebrated 20th anniversary. It was a massive event yall put that little town of ours on the map.
Great story 👏
It was meant to be! We all benefited and I'm glad it worked out for him when he trusted his gut. Great interview.
Your bruising my neck meat.
Remember the Alamo? NOPE! Long live Pedro!
Forget the Alamo.
Gotta hand it to him. He had amazing instincts about which flick to do, and with everything pointing the other way, he still followed his gut (which of course became a legendary role.) Great shit.
I was fortunate enough to be on vacation in one of the few cities to get the initial theatrical release. Buddy took me to see Napoleon Dynamite *and* Shawn of the Dead.
What a cinematic birthday.
That's wild, the alamo is largely forgotten (i forgot all about it until this), and napoleon dynamite is still loved to this day, regardless if you like the movie or not, you know the movie and know parts of the movie
I never saw Alamo, actually never knew about it but will never forget Pedro.
Napoleon came out when I was a junior in high school. That movie means something very special to me.
I was a kid when napoleon dynamite came out. I also lived in a small town in Idaho at the time. My school played it in our gym. I swear everyone was obsessed lol.
That Alamo movie with Dennis Quaid was being shopped for like 20 years... I remember in the mid to late 1980s hearing that a friends uncle had auditioned for the Alamo starring Dennis Quaid
