      You are exactly right, she knew she was wrong when she gave her reason, and that started a whole new break for Dave to get on to her...but she's going to get the cell phone...and that 300 was for a down payment...she said it right the first time (For down payment)...had to switch it up to say "Pay it in full" so she don't rattle Dave.

      I'm glad that I'm not calling him because I just spent 1300 bucks on a cell phone for me 350 for a cell phone well actually the Google pixel for a that's 350 bucks that's like the best cell phone for that kind of money but usually that kind of cell phone is okay cell phones are getting cheaper when you go down to the lower tier now but that's not like going to take really good pictures either if she really truly wants to sell phone for pictures only then she should take 350 bucks and buy a camera with that much I think she would get way more out of it but there's no way I'm calling Dave haha he'll probably Flip or something how much are you paying for your cell phone hahaha I can see it now and I don't need that I'm also getting the tablet that's another thousand bucks

      I can see the salesman talking her into an Iphone 11 or a Samsung Galaxy 10. You don't want that old phone, it is already out of date. If you are going to upgrade after 7 years spend the $ and buy a top of the line so you don't have to upgrade again for a while. It will SAVE you $ in the long run. I've heard it a million times. She would probably fall for it too.

    Budget phones are available for this exact reason!

    • @KTSpeedruns
      @KTSpeedruns 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      The big deal is that she was about to slap down $350 on a phone without considering that there are phones for $100 or less and really good point and shoot cameras for $100 which saves her $150. She's rationalizing getting more phone than what she needs because she wants to take pictures of her baby. In truth, she really should keep using her 7 year old phone until is fully stops working, then buy a cheap-o budget phone. Saves her even more money in the long run. The big deal is not that she was trying to ask Dave's permission about an iPhone 21 Pro Max Ultra Flabergaster whatever; the big deal is that she's letting her emotions control her money.

      I'll go one step further and ask why it should be necessary to be taught? It would seem to me that this subject should be intuitively obvious, enough to recognize that a budget should regulate ones income to a proper outgo. Ones spending priorities should be from most to least important. A beginner at budgeting can't be expected to know and employ all the finer points in theirs, but how many weeks/months/years have to elapse for a good working budget to emerge? All one needs is a small notebook and a pencil. And enough common sense to pursue it.

I can understand how people are frustrated that our students learn math formulas that almost none of us have used since and don't know the value of compound interest.

I am still attending the concert and I will still take video & pictures with my phone that still functions. Just set aside $10 or $15 a month and after couple years when you're ready for an upgrade, sell your old phone so you would have enough to actually upgrade it. Doing that along with shopping around will eventually allow you to "catch up" in phone models and still have nice (paid for) phones.

    Dave asked the right questions...my first question the moment she said she wanted a new phone was if the old one was working...
    I understand wanting to not wait until the other phone is inoperable to a point. That is why i back up my info on Google instead of LG or samsung or even apple ( not transferable between companies).
    But if you phone is fine and no signs of issues, there is no need to upgrade until the phone is on the way out and having issues....especially while getting out of debt.
    We waited until my hubby's 7yr phone straight up died before replacing it and we found a median between cheap vs quality made.
    We also made a rule that we will NOT pay more than $500 for a phone once out of debt regardless and that if they get more expensive, we will go back to tracfone and dumb flio phones if need be. We refuse to pay every few years more than what our huge smart TV with stereo system cost for a phone/pocket computer.

    I had a similar argument with my mother a couple of days ago. She bought herself an Apple Iphone for $399, and wanted me to do the same. I told her no because I was happy with the current phone I have. She then proceeded to call me cheap and lazy. SMH...

    You can get an iPhone 6 (which does EVERYTHING you need it to) for about $150).

    I had the same problem a month and a half ago while in baby step 2. My phone iPhone 6 finally quit working. I walked into Verizon to see about getting a new phone, they tried to sell me an iPhone 11 Pro for 1100 dollars. I said notta chance and went to a cell phone repair shop and bought a like new refurbished 10x for 400 dollars. It still hurt, but I tried to find the best deal I could.
