My dad absolutely loved the w124 and w202s, in-fact he had the w124 in coupe, saloon and estate, at various points, I feel a real nostalgia to those cars, and as someone that’s Into cars they will always have a special place in my heart.
i am from 1997 . and drive my w124 320 sedan from 1994 dailey ! before that i drove a w124 200 1990 dailey . and before that, my first car is a w201 190e from 1990. in between i drove a modern C class from 2010 ..... but didnt have the caracter . so went back to the w124 offcourse .love it to bits
Last of the bullit proof Mercedes, the simplicity & elegance is superfluous compared to the new techtonic unreliable & expensive to repair Mercedes madness today! Less is more & wonderful! Life is too complicated anyway! Long live the W124! X
I just purchased a 1995 W124 E320 Cabriolet and I love it. It took a bit of money to get it sorted but it runs smoothly and it’s in fabulous condition. I take it out once a week and I don’t mind that it doesn’t have any of the modern features we take for granted. If I want modern, then I’ll drive my Alfa Romeo Stelvio.
I daily my 1994 e300d sedan. Even use it for Mercedes roadside service for the Mercedes dealership.. it's fun to pull up with a 29 year old car to fix one thats less than a year.
In summer (live in Norway, lots of snow, and worse, salt, in winter), I daily my 1987 230CE, my 1996 E220T, and for sure my recently purchased 1990 300CE, which brought me to this video today.

It's clearly my daily. More enjoyable than my 500SL from 2003.
The flat style seats were a feature of the MB's of that time, along with their MBTEX plether. It was designed like that to alleviate DVT. There's so much design history which unfortunately you skipped over. Would of been better if you had done a little more research on the car your reviewing.
Lovely. Can't see why It can't be a daily driver? It was back then. I have been daily driving a 72 w108 for the last 7 years. Thanks for the video. Cheers.
I have the last of series here in Brisbane a 94 E320 Coupe was a Canberra consulate car, built far better than my E350 and far smoother and very solid on the road, interesting the final update car doors are very heavy maybe due to the added gathered leather insert and wood trim on the 3rd and final update models and yes the early cars had the 4 speed the later with a 5 speed with electronic 5th overdrive gear, the electric butler handover belt system actually appeared first on the 83 SEC’s, each of the updates are very different cars to drive from the 300CE 12v to the 300CE 24v and then the final 320CE in 93 that was rebadged to be the E320 the first E Class which shares more with the S Class of the time than its earlier siblings.
Hello Simon, the W124 is most definitely a daily driver; and not only the W124, but the W123 can be driven and enjoyed daily; as long as they are properly maintained. 👍👍
You mean 1989. This car was not produced anymore in 1999. It was replaced by the first CLK. And to start on first gear, you should have a "summer/winter" toggle switch near the shifter. Put it in summer mode and it will start on first gear. Edit : I don't see the switch. Maybe it was added when the 5G tronic gearbox was released in 1995
@@matthewsmith8249 the designation “300 CE” (when combined with M104 engine - thus 24 valve either 3.0 or 3.2 liter) was solely intended for US market. Europe and other countries had used 300 CE-24 and 320CE instead (for the latter E320 after MY 1994).
And I think he’s actually pulling off in 1st gear by 10:24 on the video, so there has either been a kickdown-Button pressed or just tall gearing (plus rather low torque at those rpms!) makes him “feel” like it were 2nd. EDIT: I realised he explains this fact referred kickdown by 10:48
Seats may be flat, but you can drive it for ten hours without getting tired. And yes, they start in second, to be as smooth as possible off the line. And yes, I have one as a daily driver in summer, as I love the personality in older cars, that modern ones just lack. You can hardly tell the brand before you see the logo. And in summer, with all windows down. Nothing beats it. Except maybe, only maybe, my 126 Coupe. As it has V8.
Interesting topic and well made video. The vehicle is clean and fresh looking even though it was built in '89.Would I buy one?Not sure.My other car is a 2007 CLS 500.I am not a rusted on MB owner. My prevoius 6 cars were Jaguars. However this 300CE would be worth some thought.
Not saying it couldn't of course, but I guess older cars generally have a higher probability of failure due to the age of its components etc., but for an enthusiast, go for it!
@@mguytv These cars, when you change a component, it will last another 50.000 to 150.000 kilometres. While modern cars have some fucking sensor going wrong all the time. Nothing, except the sensor is actually wrong, and it costs shitloads of money to fix the sensor problem. Modern cars are actually less reliable than well kept old ones. In my experience.
Early car with no wood along the bottom of the black dashboard panel. It’s got the early lined stitched seats, which look dated. Very rare for a top spec car not to have walnut wood, it has the standard zabrano lined wood, I think that’s how you spell it. Nice car though. You could drive it daily if it’s been looked after, they are very well built and simple mechanics.
Zebra o wood was always standard, however fancy you equipped your car, walnut was always extra cost option. From Mercedes. Some importers made it standard in some markets, but then it was the importer who always ordered it.
The trouble with modern cars is that they are over designed , just look at Honda and Toyota , swoopy wings , swage lines all over the place , I think it all started with the Nissan joke sorry juke , they don't understand the concept of ' less is more '.
not sure if you guys cares but if you are bored like me atm then you can stream pretty much all of the latest series on instaflixxer. I've been watching with my brother lately =)
Beige leather interior, not parchment. The steering is heavy. Had my '89 300CE since 2000. Fairly easy to maintain by the do it yourselfer. Poor fuel economy, requires premium.

What is the consumption of the beast since mine is moderate being a 230
And honestly, personally I prefer my 124’s to Stelvio’s, even if they are very nice. I have long time rented a few of them on holidays.

Nice. I am working on my 1987 CE 230 c124, don't want to daily drive it, but will see.
Beautiful car. The 124 series are legendary, and the C124 my personal favourite.

Nice 300e 😎👌👌 every time you drive classic Mercedes it's a unique experience...
MB # 1 !!!
Great video as always Simon
Doors thin??
The doors are 2x better build then a car in 2021..
I agree but they aren’t bloated with all the safety regulations that we have now!
Seat. Too flat ? The power adjustment enables you to pivot the seat upwards to give you angle you want
