I recently bought shampoo for my husband that was causing itching on his scalp, so instead of throwing it away, I used it as a toilet bowl cleaner. Worked beautifully 😊

I make fire starters for our campfires. I stuff the toilet paper roll with dryer lint. Then I run a line of petroleum jelly along the side of the roll. It starts fires very fast. A friend marveled this summer at how fast I could start our camp fires. I owe it all to the roll!

We are experimenting with using the paper handles from garbage bangs (after taking the bag to the trash). We roll them tight and scotch tape (better size match than duct them shut. Tough to light in a breeze. When we split the seam apart it worked better, so now I do that before rolling them.

We use the tp rolls, paper towel rolls and tissue boxes for fire starters, too. Except, I stuff the paper wrappers from butter and the wax from cheese into those, too. We squish them down and store in a plastic bucket so they do not attract "guests," there is no risk of detecting odirs, and the starters stay dry until ready to use.

Butter Wrappers --- after unwrapping sticks of butter, put the wrappers in a baggie and keep in freezer. When needing to grease a pan for baking, use a butter wrapper as there is just enough butter residue on them.

My now 4 year old loves plants. A couple of years ago we planted some sweet pepper plants just for fun. She absolutely loved the tomato plant from a friend so we planted some pepper seeds right out of the pepper. I did not expect anything. We had more pepper plants than we knew what to do with. My mother asked, "how did you get them to grow so fast?" We just put them in dirt for fun. Our living situation was a challenge for growing plants but we still have some of those pepper plants still producing food for us! I used to have a big collection of Christmas ornaments. I started collecting them as a teen-ager, then inherited some of my grandmothers, then my dad's when he passed away. Through the years I continued collecting them and receiving them as gifts. Many of these ornaments were handmade or purchased without a box. I saved the wrapping paper from Christmas day and when I put these ornaments away I gently wrapped them in used Christmas paper. When the next Christmas rolled around it was festive to see the wrapping paper. Some of the gift tags remained on the paper and I just left them there too.

I love these household hints. Some of them have been around for years (I'm 79 so I've collected quite a few hints in my time!)
One thing I learned is that if you use a dryer sheet to clean your lint screen, the substance from the sheet can eventually clog up the screening. Going through regularly and wiping out your dryer and lint trap with a very mild soap and water (very mild, use only a drop Dawn to a quart of water) will stop that problem.

Decades ago when our kids were small, I decided I was tired of wasting money on wrapping paper, so I started to make gift bags out of fabric that I had on hand, or Christmas prints that I bought in January when they went on sale. We still use wrapping paper when giving gifts that go outside the family, but we've been using some of the same fabric bags year after year for more than 30 years. We also have a relative who has dreadfully artritic hands, and wrapping gifts was painful for her, so I made lots of bags for her to use --- all she has to do is pop the gift in the bag and tie it closed with a piece of yarn. She has used them for years.

I have been making box bottomed drawstring bags for Christmas gift giving. I started making them when I read that wrapping paper is not recyclable. They save a lot of time you would normally spend wrapping. I enjoy the creativity of fashioning the gift bags from things like graduation gowns, an old prom dress and fabric samples. They are embellished with buttons and pieces of ribbon and lace. For packages too large for the gift bags I buy scarves at thrift stores and use the furoshiki method of wrapping.

You can also get an Anker Gaan Charger of 100 W with 2/3 ports. That’s enough to fully charge a MacBook. Micro and lightning will also soon be obsolete for new tech so making sure you have a few USB-C to C cables are handy. Magtame is also a brand that has magnetic cables that don’t get tangled. I know this video is about using household items, but sometimes spending a little extra money in the long run will be extremely helpful..

I wanted to hang another rod in my closet for extra hanging space. Then I saw the price😮 So I took a look around for cheap options. I ended up cutting a plastic milk jug into strips and stapling them into a chain. It wasn't pretty, so I went to the thrift store and got a silk shirt and cut off the sleeves to cover it (I had to add a few inches of extra fabric, but the shirt was only $1.) For the rod itself, I cut off a mop handle, painted it, and used a few zip ties to secure it to the chain. I don't hang heavy items on it. I think I might punch holes in the rings and secure them with zip ties. They do stretch into flat ovals and being covered, don't leave indentations on the clothes hanging next to them. I also did similar to hang an extra rod in the bathroom for drying clothes. I just got a few s-hooks so I can put it up/take it down as needed. That one I did secure with zip ties, lol.

( I hate it when I walk around my neighborhood and suddenly get a lungful of that perfumey dryer exhaust. )Those same toxic chemicals that coat your clothes to keep them static free also coat the INSIDE of your lungs when you breath them in! Around March, April I start my flower and vegetable seeds indoors (first they're in peat pots then they are transplanted into 3 or 4 inch pots). I use bread bag plastic clips to identify the potted plant, marking down broccoli or cabbage, etc.. I also re-use old toothbrushes as cleaning brushes for small spaces, like the holes in your bathroom sink, or the joints where the faucet meets the ceramic. Another useful brush would be an old mascara brush (cleaned of course)- it's small enough to get to places you have a hard time like the window tract that sliding windows are on. North America is about the only continent where we all think we need dryers. I always hang my clothes, so I place an old shower rod in the door jam somewhere and hang my clothes off of that. It would make a lot of sense for all of us to have longer stronger rods outside, so we can hose down and wash our carpets and let them air dry off of these!

Great video. A Few things. I use bread heals to keep my brown sugars soft, it's fast acting too if you're in the middle of a bake, it will soften within minutes. Secondly, it's the fabric softener from the dryer sheets that make the dryers lint catching screen ineffective for catching lint. You can of course wash the invisible film off the lint catcher, but definitely I wouldn't recommend using a dryer sheet to remove the lint from the dryers lint catching screen, that will just add to the creation of an inefficient lint catcher in your dryer. Fabric softener Dryer sheets are also good mosquito repellants, I stuff them in pockets and in kids socks. Like you, I have them but mostly don't use them. I do use them when we travel and will be doing our own laundry.

A piece of bread will make brown sugar soft again. I use toilet paper rolls to collect lint from the dryer. These make good fire starters for the fireplace or camp fire. Also lint can be used on the bottom of planters and pots of plants to keep the soil inside and not come out through the drain holes when watering. If you have sweet potatoes that start to sprout close to planting time in the spring you just snap off the sprouts and put in a jar of water to root them. Plant them in the garden to produce sweet potatoes. I use plastic grocery bags to collect the dirty litter in the cat box. I purchased spout lids for wide mouth mason jars. These are perfect for storing rice and other pantry items. I love Bath and Body Works 3 wick candles. When the wax is gone I remove the labels and wash the jars out. Even if you don't eat the apple, bird peck at them, or you can dry and freeze them for bird food during the winter months. Plastic boxes with tiny compartments (look at the hardware store for boxes to store screws, washers, other small hardware) are the best for earrings--super cheap, and easy to grab and go. I LOVE that the cords no longer come with plugs! It's such a waste to keep giving me plugs when only the cable is dead. Most of these I've used or still using. Regarding the dryer sheets. They put coating on your laundry to be soft for a short amount of time. The other thing they do is leave that same coating on the lint catcher. You'll notice a milkish discoloring on the catcher. The vent holes get clogged, causing a fire hazard. An neighbor from long ago had their dryer melt from a backdraft.
