I've been a fan of Fortune since her first special. I "discovered" Mae when they were on Taskmaster but became a fan immediately. These conversations have something everyone can related to (Mae's story about peeing their pants in 1st grade).

OMG Pete, walking across the log way up in the air - PROJECT ADVENTURE - they called it at my high school, and i got stuck up there, halfway across and could not move. Class let out and they had to let everyone else go while the soccer coach had to like climb up and inch by inch me back to safety. 😅🤣

It possible to subconsciously feel breath on you or even focused body heat from someone's hairless face depending on how far they are from you. Also you could not notice/remember that you caught someone looking at you and then realize they haven't moved in your prerifial vision in a while.

I have such a crush on Mae. I'm not into blondes, but Mae transcends my trust issues with their genuine, self-effacing vibe. 🥰 Loved the conversation. I also loved smoking, the ritual of it all, plus the social aspect helped my autistic social anxiety. But I developed an allergy and even being around smoke for a few minutes will make me ill. Unfortunately I turned to vaping instead, but until I can get my ADHD treated (mental healthcare sucks where I am in the South), I'm letting it slide. Anyway, sorry for my life story here. Pete & Fortune, love you too!

Smoking is a fairly common means of neurodivergent stimming, so having it be relegated to 'oh the core thought is that you're alone' is really missing the forest for the trees/misunderstands the fundamental mechanism so acutely that relapses are all but inevitable for a lot of ppl who fit Au/DHD profile. In other words, for them, the actual act of smoking really is the more important component in the overall equation (similar to nailbiting habits), with the nicotine just being a nice bonus.

I don’t understand this. Pete has not really changed his outlook on God since the podcast started. He doesn’t subscribe to any particular denomination and literally describes God as a “metaphor for a mystery”. Pete’s understanding of God, as I see it, is one of the least hateful or conversion-heavy versions I’ve ever seen. I don’t know man… Maybe you were listening to an episode where he didn’t talk about God, but he has consistently done so since the podcast started like 12 years ago. he even talks about how he understands people have an aversion to Christian language, which is what he uses to understand a lot of it. Anyway… Have a good one.
