  • I'm super excited to pack the July Carry On Light for our next Japan trip! This is the lightest weight hard sided rolling carry-on suitcase. It weighs 1.8kg (almost 4lbs). This is especially helpful when packing a carry on bag with a 7kg weight limit for flights within Japan or SE Asia. Flying on Zipair across the Pacific pushed us to switch to hiking backpacks for our carry-on bags, as they had stringent weight limits. Saved us 2+kg switching from a rolling case. Would've loved a 1.8kg suitcase.

    Thanks for the review! I just saw this suitcase as well and bought it because it's the lightest I've seen so far. I'll be traveling all over Japan and even to Korea so it's good to onow this suitcase has worked out for you.

    I only buy top open cases lately. Most are softshell, but Delsey had a 22" hardside that I got a few years ago. I don't see this for sale anymore. I found a 26" hardside top open checked case in KL earlier this year. Has double zippers, they say it's a theft deterrent?? Top open takes less room in a hotel, and you can fit more on the luggage shelf. Must have double spinner wheels. Single wheels tend to tip easier when I put my backpack on it. We did fly Peach, the LCC with our 22" carry-on (actually bigger with the wheels) that was over 7 kg, and they never asked us to weigh it. We figured if we had to check it, we could do it at the gate and just pay. At least we would be assured it would be on our flight.😁 Not that you'd have to worry much in Japan?
    I also have a narrow, 20" wheeled duffle that I like. Narrow gets it down the aisle better. But duffles are 2 wheeled and hard to attach a backpack to the handle. My wife says I collect backpacks and luggage.😂

      I used to have a top opening soft shell suitcase years ago that I liked. Can’t remember what happened to it. Maybe we swapped it for a hiking backpack in our “backpacking” travel days. It would be nice to have a suitcase that takes up less space in small hotel rooms.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  5 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hi. I got the regular July Carry-On Light, not the expandable version, because I wanted the lightest possible rolling carry-on. We often fly on airlines in Asia that have either a 7kg (15.4 lbs) or 10kg (22 lbs) per person limit (carry-on + personal item). It's hard to pack any rolling carry-on within 7kg! 🌸 Heidi

    Hi 👋
    Did you have your winter trip yet with the bag? How was it? Any updated review of the bag coming up after using it?
    I’m a frequent traveler to Japan. But going to UK for a change in May and considering the July Light carry on. I’m a one bag traveler now but don’t always want a backpack for my bag. It’s been hard to find reviews of the light carry on from people actually traveling with it that seem like legit pro/con reviews. Thank you for your time.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Hi. Yes, I took the July Carry On Light to Hokkaido in the winter. Overall, I really like it. It's compact and light weight. The times I had to pick it up to climb up and down stairs it was fine. And the wheels roll really well.
      I did have an issue where the piece covering the spine tore off (using it as a carry-on, not checking it in). Since there's a good warranty, July replaced it for me while I was in the USA.
      I'm now traveling with the replacement in Japan. This one is fine so far. I took it on our flight LAX - NRT. I'm not sure if the freezing cold weather in Hokkaido affected the first suitcase. I'll see how this one holds up. The one thing I wish it had was a small zippered pocket inside, for putting an AirTag.
      I plan to film a full review once we're back home, after our 3 month trip. 🌸 Heidi

      @nos_mjb 3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      @@KenshoQuest Thank you so much! This is very helpful. Curious if it was the cold as well. The two seasons I most frequent in Japan are Autumn and Winter. As far as airtags if you put it in a small holder with a loop, you might be able to unzip the center of the fabric backing inside the suitcase that your contents rest on. Then on the back of that zip since it likely won't have the pull tab- use a narrow ziptie to attach the airtag + it's holder with loop to that. Then it's out of the way and hidden a bit more. This is what I do on my Away Carry-on I want to replace with something like the July Light Carry on. Enjoy the rest of the trip and would love a full film review when you're back. Thank you again.

      Hi. I've haven't tried Monos, but I've seen comparison videos that include both Monos and July. The most important factor to me was getting the lightest suitcase, so we can bring it on our flights in Japan and SE Asia. 🌺 Heidi

      I’ve been packing in half the July Carry On Light: 3 dresses, 3 leggings, thin cardigan, bras and underwear. On the other side is my socks and my 5-year-old daughter’s clothes. We’re currently on a 3 month trip, and I did add one dress and send home a couple long sleeve shirts. 🌸 Heidi

    Do you have the brand and product of the lightest sturdy check-in suitcase too?

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  10 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi. The qualities of lightweight and sturdy tend to be on opposite ends of the spectrum. If I were buying a checked suitcase I'd probably get the July Checked Light (7lbs) or July Checked (8.3lbs). Here's my July affiliate link: julyus.pxf.io/daEqkW For comparison, the VELO 3-in-1 suitcase that I reviewed previously weights 10.3lbs. Beis Medium Check-in weighs 10.2lbs and Monos Check-in Medium weighs 9.59lbs. I haven't done enough research to know overall which hard sided checked suitcase is lightest weight.

    • @KenshoQuest
      @KenshoQuest  4 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I’ve taken it on two flights so far, and they’ve worked great so far. The handle is steady. The wheels normally roll smoothly, but they were a little difficult on carpet. 🌺 Heidi
