  • In part 2, the tutorial shows how to reupholster a modern, factory built, reproduction, button-back armchair. It's different from traditional upholstery, because it's constructed using hardboard and foam instead of webbing, hessian and hair. Therefore, I have reupholstered this chair without removing the foam wadding and hardboard back. This is a long video, because it covers in detail, how to re-cover the chair for beginners of re-upholstery. Please scroll forward to the parts you need if you're a more confident upholsterer.
You will see how to measure for and layout the pattern pieces economically, to work out how much fabric you will need. Remember, you will need more patterned fabric than plain to pattern match on the chair. I show you how to re-cover removable wooden scrolls. How to use fibre and metal back-tack strips and cut around different leg angles and awkward corners and joints on the chair. You will learn how to button the front of the chair using traditional methods and finally, what you need to know about adding fire retardancy labels.
On this chair, I am able to cut fabric for the piping, straight across the width of the fabric, but below is a link to make continuous piping on the bias, if you need longer lengths or tighter bends.

In part 1, I demonstrate how to strip down the chair step by step. See the following link.

I'm so glad youtube recommended this to me. I almost passed it by because the thumbnail was really hard to read and it wasn't clear what you were doing. Up your thumbnail game and I'm sure you'll get more subscribers! You're a great teacher. Please keep posting.

Thank you! Thumbnails are so small, I'm never sure what to put to be clear.

I'm not a youtuber so I can't give you specifics. I find what catches my eye are clear images of the project and text off to the side/above with a uncluttered background. I'm sure there's a perfect tutorial around here somewhere.@@crofthouse489
