Sadly the companies know these cages are not suitable, and take advantage of the uninformed consumers. Education is the only thing that will break this chain. You are doing great work Victoria! Never stop!
The cage size problem seems to be worst in Japan, the cages they sell there are smaller. There are a lot of videos on Instagram of hamsters in really small acrylic cages and it’s heartbreaking.
Who else noticed that these small cages were usually over 40 dollars, while other cages are Bin cages-$20 Detolf:$70 DIY-depending on how you make it, usually $40-50. Tanks-$200 Keep this in mind before buying these cages, you can always go for something cheaper or the same price for so much more space. These companies just want money to hurt more animals. Give your money to better companies, that care about the hamsters.❤️
You can often find tanks for free or for less than store price, if you get them second hand. That's how I found all of my rodent tanks (60, 55, and 45 gallons all for free)
I think that the only reason why people say that the hamster 'loves' the cage is because they like the look of it themselves. If a cage looks good people seem to automatically think that it is good. Pet stores and companies simply don't care, as long as they're still making money. Once I tried to convince a pet store manager to give there hamsters at least bigger wheels, he said "But if we put bigger wheels in there wouldn't be any space." I replied with "then give them bigger cages." He laughed his way out of a lot of the questions in that conversation.
its so frustrating the fact they sell these bad cages but at least from what i’ve noticed they started selling only paper bedding and less of the other types
If its a chain company store then the store manager couldn't make those changes only higher ups but if he was running a personal ran company than yeah he could at least change his stock.
@@Drew_2152 Yeah, I did have that in mind when I was talking to him. We mainly came in to deliver a letter (on there hamster care), to the manager hoping that they would send it to someone higher up. It didn't work anyways. So we might send the letter directly to 'the big boss'.
When I first got my hamster 2 years ago, I almost bought one of these cages. Because it had such good reviews, I thought that it would be appropriate for him. I came across your videos, though, and learned proper hamster care. My little guy now lives happily in a Niteangel Bigger World cage.
One thing people use to defend these cages is "look at how full it is with things to do! it's completely full..." but it's not. I remember after I made a large bin cage for my hamster putting all his accessories from the habitrail into the bin cage, and once I put the sand bath, the wheel, and his single hanging pumpkin hide, the cage looked so empty, and I was so ashamed as I realized there had really been nothing at all in his old cage, even though it looked filled up with all of a wheel, food bowl, and bedding. You can put a chair and a table in a closet and have that look full, but just that in a mansion will look empty. And a cage isn't supposed to be a house or a mansion anyway, it's supposed to be a world.
I’m embarrassed to have had a cage like this when I first started having a hamster. But I learned a lot and got a ikea detolf after experimenting with different cages. Those cages that are given by the stores are just not ok at all
Many of us start off with cages like that and there's nothing you can do to change the past but with the new information you learn you are able to change the future!
Yay I'm early.... thank you Victoria for trying to make people more aware when it comes to vital hamster care... keep up the good work and your hamsters 🐹 are the cutest💗 and because of you my dwarf hamster has now been upgraded into a 950 sq inch cage from a 356 sq inch... Bobby Dazler thanks you
@@VictoriaRaechel my hamster died but I am happy it lived a full three years and it had a huge bin cage from Ikea thank you for all these hamster tips that kept my hamster happy and healthy
I'm guilty our hamster was given to us by a family member he came with a small cage we will be fixing this immediately Olly is the most social hamster I've ever seen my son acts like he's his dog it's funny thank you for the education on them very helpful.
I'm getting a hammy in a few months, and my mom recommended the cage at 6:52 and I told her that that was not suitable, (she didn't feel safe having a custom built cage) so I watched your most recent video on safe hamster cages and found one that I like. thank you so much for helping me understand and improve my knowledge in this animal! Your tips will be used and my hamster will live in the best cage I am able to provide!!!
My hamster has a bigger bin cage travel carrier then any of these cages. 😭 I've seen people using the ferplast combi 1 (or whatever the cage is called) before. The hamsters always look so depressed in that shoebox sized cage. Also, the one where the person was listing the stress signs, thinking they were good, hurt me so much. 😖
A year ago I bought TWO critterville arcade cages for my STORE bought hamsters. :/ :/ Thanks to Munchie I quickly upgraded to two prevue 528. Then lol soon after that I bought two Niteangel med bigger world. They have been in those new homes for 10 months and they both just turned one year old. Thank goodness I researched and thank you for educating people. (I use the prevue 528 for rescue hammys and as for the arcade cages, I broke them (so no one could use them) and tossed them into the garbage :)
Hello Victoria! Thank you so much for spreading awareness to current or future hamster owners! The first hamster cage you discussed was one I bought recently, but when I saw your video I decided to definitely return it before I get a hamster. Me and my dad worked together and developed a 1100 sq hamster enclosure with your knowledge we have so many additions waiting for our future hammy, and we absolutely love your videos!!!
@@VictoriaRaechelHi Victoria thank you for informing me about these things I had the last one you Reviewed I watched your videos I knew I needed to upgrade... I was 9 when that happened I sold all of my toys it raise some money for a 40 gallon tank filled whith 6 inches of fluff 11in wheel and some enrichment whith a sand bath I'm older now and have upgraded since thank you so much for informing me about these things. Also ty for introducing me to night angel I have bought digs sand and plat forms from them and thinking about buying the mount Fuji water dish. Again thank you so much ,
Oh god, back then I had had a very small cage, after a while i thought that a Ferplast Laura would have been a nice upgrade.. Fortunately i realized my mistakes thanks to your videos and now my hamsters are happy without any stress
Hello, I am ten years old and I was planning on getting the first cage in the video. Then I started watching your Chanel and educated myself on hamsters. Thank you so much you do not know how many people you are helping by posting these videos! Now my cage for my fist hamster ever was a bin cage! I highly suggest that type of cage! So cheap!
I haven't owned hamsters since I was a teenager, and I'm 30 now. I bought one a month ago and put him in the Ferplast Luara and he was MISERABLE. I bit the bullet and paid top dollar for a large wheel and the Prevue 528, and I already see so much change in him. He's not racing anymore and seems much more relaxed with many bedding choices (paper and aspen), hides and toys. Hamsters only live ~2years and I want to make sure his are the best years of his life. His name is Shadow and he's a Syrian hamster. Thank you for your hamster education! 💕
I just got my first hamster, and they used to have the ferplast laura small hamster cage (when I got them), now I have upgraded them to a 40 gallon tank. Love your videos!
Every time my mom goes to Petsmart I come along because I like watching the few hamsters that woke up for some food or water but it breaks my heart to see the horrible hamster care and since my mom buys dog toys and stuff there, I hate that we’re giving them money to make more bad cages.
The base size of most of these enclosures are legitimately the size of my hamsters (Lizzy female long haired syrian) sand/litter box... that's honestly sad. Her burrow is probably the same size as this to, honestly hurts me. Her happiness 99% goes to you, I can't thank you enough. My baby girl lives in a cage with 1,00 inches of floor space... it's atleast 2 and a half feet tall. Thank you oh so much Victoria!
Thank you for trying to make people understand more about the proper hamster welfare!!!! I started watching your videos ages ago and when I got my Russian dwarf hamster I told them I must get a large enclosure with a large wheel so my cage is 639 square inches of floorspace and my wheel is 8 inches wide!!!! I love all your videos and you are so amazing!!!!
I think its sad that there's so much information on your channel on being the best hamster owners, yet so many don't view it. Your channel is informative and very helpful. I always recommend you
i used to have one of these cages! it was pink with the top “carrier” of course. i tried to upgrade for my 7th birthday with my 3rd hamster. i have had hamsters since i was 4. i upgraded to a 10 gallon tank. since watching you my syrian hamster mr whiskers will now be living in a niteangel medium cage! he is very big now i also am giving him proper diet and getting a bigger wheel so thank you so much for giving all of us the education to be able to give our hamsters a happier life! 💕🐹
So Small! I watched this with my hammy and she looked disappointed! She has one of they cages that you said were good, at the end of the video and she has 9 inches of bedding. I got her for a rescue that was housing her in a too small cage... But she's happy now, thanks to your guidance on how to be a good hamster parent.
i recently got a male 10 week old hamster which i named Pringle..he is an absolute joy! thanks to you its way easier to take care of him and understand his behaviours. i find it awful that people find that hamsters are ‘toys’ and ‘useless’ as they only live for 2 years. luckily we have ppl like you inn the world who care abt animals! thanks!
Yesterday I got the niteangel medium sized cage and I was SO happy with it because Bundle (my Syrian beige hamster) has more space then the other cage she had and it was really small. Thanks to you I now know about hamster care.
The first cage 🤦♀️ I said basically the same things you did- you have been teaching me so much (as I am a new hamster owner) and will be getting my hamster a 12 inch wheel this weekend!
I bought my hammy Gwen without much research, she had a critter trail and not a good life . But I started watching you and my hammys life changed! She now has a huge bin cage and a way happier life! Thanks it you she’s a happy ham! 🐹🐹🐹🐹🐹💕💕
DO YOUR RESEARCH YoU NEED BIG ENCLOSURE! A HIGH CAGE FOR LOTS OF BEDDING A GOOD WHEEL THE RIGHT HEALTHY DIET I recommended Higgins SunBurst mixed with Mazuri rat food. I’m doing a 6 month research before I start to bye the aquarium or Bin Cage I might even make my lunch cage HAMSTERS ARE EXPENSIVE LET ME TELL YOU THAT!! For the right care you will need $400 at least to START. My plan is to do my research till my birth day which is in October and ask for a 80 gallon tank or something then I will wait till Christmas and get my wheel sand bath etc. then with my money bye him the good healthy food and good undusty bedding he needs and finally bye the hammy. Hope I help. DO YOUR RESEARCH!!!!!!
@@dailthegoat799 YES OFC!!! I’ve been doing my research for abt 4 months now, and I’ve bought all the stuff u mentioned (bye bye to my money 👋) I hope my future hamster will be happy
I loved this video! I shared it with my friend and she is going to look into getting a bin cage! Thanks a ton Tori! ❤️ I love shopping on Amazon and was looking up some things for my hammy and saw the first cage in the vid and actually sighed! (My mom thought I was crazy…lol)
I have had two hamsters since watching your videos and the first hamster lived in a terrarium that was too small because I asked my boyfriend to buy it and he didn’t want to spend money on a 40 gallon tank. He and I split up and I took the hamster and bought a Niteangel cage. Sadly, the first hamster passed away before the cage arrived. I have since adopted a new hamster and he loves his Niteangel cage. I’m so glad I found your videos and that now I know exactly how to give my hamster the best life he can have. Thanks Victoria!
Hi Victoria! I have an Ikea Detolf for my female Russian dwarf and she loves it. So much space to put things. She loves burrowing to so I leave her to it aha. I enjoyed watching! 🙂
Just found this in my recommended, been so long! I watched you every day from early 2019 to early 2021, and was always excited for Saturdays! I recently started owning another hamster after 2 years of not owning any. I bought a 750 square inch bin with a lid that I drilled holes into and my hamster, Nibbles, loves the 10 inch bedding! He's still very young, but already thriving because of you 💞All your videos are so interesting and your opinions are so reasonable! Love you! 💖
I have the cage at 8:14 and after watching your videos I thought it would be bad for my hamster. So, since I can’t return it, I instead got a bin, connects the tube to it, and now my hamster has 2x the amount of room! :))
OMG! Victoria Rachel your the BEST!!!! I have two hamster myself and I know people who have hamsters but have incorrect care. I try to help them but they don't want help. So ThankYou for telling the world how hamsters should be treated!
Amazing video as always, Victoria! Very educational, and helpful! So sad that companies value the money made more than the welfare of the hamster. I would just like to say thank you, as my hamster now has a 1180sq inch DIY playpen turned into a cage, 14 inches of paper-based and aspen bedding and an 11 inch wheel. 🐹💕
Your voice is so important! Please keep challenging these notions of proper care that actually are DETRIMENTAL to a hamster’s quality of life. It isn’t enough that I have given my hamster what he needs to thrive and be safe from harm…I feel compelled to do something about the quality of care for other hamsters…and in the US, it’s hard to know where to start and how to make a difference. You are doing something about it…great video!🌻
My cousin has the The Kaytee crittertrail two level for her FEMALE Syrian hamster (the worst kind of hamster to be in that) and her mom won’t let her get a bigger cage! 😭 it hurts my heart knowing that a little hammy has to live it’s life in that thing 💔
i love your videos so much, i’m so happy i found your channel bc idk what id do without you victoria!! you’re so helpful to me and many others and you inspire me so much. you make my hamster care even better by the day and i’m so grateful for that. love you!!💕💕
Hi Victoria, I just wanted to thank you for making people notice how big a responsibility it is to take care of a hamster and it is not to be taken lightly. My hamster was living in a tiny tales cage and is now living in a 450sq inch cage.
I love these review videos! Im shocked at how soo may people use these cages, and think that their hamster ENJOYS it!! >:( Its really sad that the majority of hamster owners dont know about proper hamster care. Thank you for continuing to spread the message
I'm glad you enjoy them Leah! It is really a shame because I do know if many learned about the proper hamster care they'd want to change right away! :(
since finding your channel I've now spent £300 on my hamser as i COULD not see how sad and aggrivated he was in the pet shop one they reccomended me, its awful! hes super happy now and lets me pick him up and give him cuddles, so thank you!!! more people need to know the needs that they really need
I sadly had the Kaytee one and similar styles before I knew better. I wish I had known all this information before owning my first hamster as an adult. I upgraded to a bin cage and my hamsters have never been happier.
I started watching you whenever I got my hamster and I had gotten miss heard information so I told my mom and turns out that she said that its already happy and so I showed her your videos and know shes getting me a 40 gallon aquarium with a large enough wheel and a sand bath and with good plants and etc. Thanks to you im finally getting the dream I wanted for my hamster🐹💕
I own 4 adorable Syrians ( in separate enclosures) thank you for allowing me and so many others to care for these amazing little creatures properly ❤ unfortunately one of my hammies gained her wings about 2 weeks ago, I miss her tons. Her name was DD (daisy Duke) I'll never forget her but I can't wait to make new memories with my current and future hammies. My current hamsters names are Evie, Louie,Tia Marie and Sophia Lauren.
It's so painful to hear owners say their hamster ''enjoys'' or ''loves' their cage when they are so obviously miserable. It makes me so angry! How do you know? Stop 👏 saying 👏 hamster 👏 likes 👏 it 👏!
So true! and people are like "well the hamster sleeps in the hide every day and runs on the wheel all night... so of course they're happy!" BUT THE HAMSTER DOES NOT HAVE ANY OTHER CHOICE!!! If a person has only dry moldy bread to eat, and they eat it, their favorite food isn't dry moldy bread because there is literally nothing else!!!
@@margalothegreat_hams Exactly as you say. By the same logic we could say prisoners are happy in their cell because they sleep on their bed and use the toilet in the corner.
I am trying to get a cage up grade for my two male Syrians but my mom keeps saying no but rather then that I take great care of them thank you for teaching me and others about hamster care you are amazing you are my favorite TH-camr!
hello! i have a quick question. My syrian hammy just recently passed, and I’m going to get another one. At the moment we have the ikea detolf cage, and i want to get a robovorski dwarf hamster. Do you think that’s a good cage?
I started off with a Ferplast cage It was the biggest most expensive cage I could find in the store ….and it didn’t even reach the North American bare minimum floor space
Plastic fantastic, with added metal, just what a hamster needs right? Yes i am ironic here, how can we put preassure on the manufacturers and the pet stores that sell these miniature prisons? I dont think they themselves want to change anything because their nasty products are selling and making them alot of money. So how do we get them to listen ? Huge thank you to Victoria for spreading solid and logic knowledge regarding hamster care. If only the manufacturers would listen and take action to create more natural and better enclosures for our small friends.
I really think just trying to educate as many people as you can! The more people who join the hamster community and demand larger cages we ~may~ see more companies pop up who build larger cages.
As someone who has kept reptiles and is considering a hamster I find the recommended tank size really small and manufacturers making their enclosures EVEN smaller baffles me!
I ended up buying a smaller all living things hamster cage that the PetSmart worker recommended, but my hamster ended up escaping through the bars because he was so tiny, not only that, but it was more expensive to buy those to make it appropriate than to just buy a large tank. Even after I watched your videos, the worker tricked me... and the worker also said hamster balls are really one of the top necessities for a hamster, and I got that too without further research. The wheel was thankfully large enough for my dwarf, but he would fall off because it was so small. The water bottle that came with it leaked without a clue, and the tunnels were fine for my dwarf, but this cage was originally designed for larger hamsters and even guinea pigs. The base was definitely too low, though I filled bedding to the brim. Thanks for your instructions!
Hey Victoria!! I’ve been watching since Bumble, on different accounts:) And I got my first hammy, Maggie. A robo in April 2020, she passed last November while I was on vacation (she was being taken care of) I’ve wanted another hamster, and my parents say that they smell. Maggie had no odor at all. They think that my cleaning methods are not strict enough, they think it needs to be deep cleaned once a week, even though it’s a 50 gallon aquarium, do you have any tips?? I really want another hamster in my life. Thanks so much!!
I'm sorry to hear about your loss! herbs can help with hay since they naturally have a nice smell, you can also show them this study on cage cleaning (th-cam.com/video/dpvhjIjNZdg/w-d-xo.html I talk about it here as the study is in german and needs translation ) www.hamster-ratgeber.de/hamste...
Had my first hamster about 2 weeks ago. I got the cage from where I bought my hamster but watched this today and went straight out to get a new one! Thank you so much for this information :)
Thanks to Victoria's videos, my adorable roborovski lives in a $200 aquarium and she's living her best life 😄. She is my 4th hamster I've ever had and sadly, the first 3 lived in versions of these monstrosity of these cages but I was uneducated in hamster care at the time. My sincerest apologies to Hammie, Rambo and Nibbles for not providing the homes they deserved.
Im recently planning on buying a hamster , and your videos had helped me! Now I know that my old cage won’t be good for the hamster and I’m upgrading now on the cage for a plastic box cage , also I had bought a bigger wheel . Thank you so much !
Hi Victoria I got a hamster 4 months ago and I had a critter cage for him .When I came Across your channel I watched ur videos everyday and realized that I was doing bad hamster care .I convinced my parents to go get an Aquarium ,Now my hamster had a proper size and bedding for my hamster to burrow.Ur channel is awesome and helpful I am so glad I came across your channel because now my hamster is a happy hamster.😊😊😊😊😊🤍🤍
I used to have the Ferplast cage and had it for 2 hamsters (different times). I feel so bad for not realizing that they wouldn’t be happy. Both were Syrians with a 6-7 inch wheel! They only had about as much bedding as the model did. My second hamster would always sleep in the tubes and I realize why now. There wasn’t enough bedding to make her feel safe and she couldn’t burrow so she stuffed bedding in the tubes. I hope she was happy because she didn’t chew on the bars and was always lively at night. (We also took her out to play almost every night)
Victoria, have you ever considered designing your own Hamster/other small pet enclosure. I feel like you would make a good one and it would help new hamster owners, keep up the good work
its funny how many people say their hamster loves this cage. it shows that people are projecting and that we don’t know what the hamster is really thinking and ignoring disturbing escape behavior
Hi! So me and my sister are going to get a hamster anytime now and bc I’m a lot older I being trusted with most of the research so then I can teacher her in a more simpler form (as she is a bit younger) and I’ve been watching so many of your videos and it’s helping tons! Thank you so much! I appreciate your easy following advice! ❤
I’ve had hamsters for several years, but discovered your channel more recently. I never knew about seed mix, wheel sizes, house transparencies and sleep schedules, sandbaths, and enrichment practices. I’ve found that I can utilize a good chunk of my old hamster things for my gerbils, but I still went out and got some new things. I really appreciate all of your advice! I have an elderly hamster who’s sister passed away a few months ago, and she is getting to that stage as well. I have been taking good care of her, and spoil her a bunch! She’s very nippy, so I don’t hold her really, but I will pet her or brush her with a toothbrush when she has bed head. I can tell her back is starting to ache more, but I still try to interact with her without petting her back. My gerbils are so sweet. They love burrowing, chewing, and sunflower seeds are their favorite food. They always pick out the seed mix and leave the Oxbow mix for last. They love classical music as well, and don’t really utilize their saucer, but the wheel I had for them was not a great fit for their cage, and they seemed to prefer the saucer more. I also heard it’s better for their backs. My gerbils love their hanging kabob toy and paper towel rolls, so thank god I have multiple people in my family to use up toilet paper more haha. Thank you so much for your videos, I really appreciate them!!
Thank you so much, Victoria, for teaching us hamster care! I absolutely looooveeeeeee your hate comments videos they’re so hilarious! Anyways, I think more hamster owners should NOT get these cages! I wish I could press charges on them for like animal abuse... I find it is animal abuse... I hope more and more people can realize what they’re doing and stop doing those! I tried warning my friend that owns a hamster and does not do the right care, but she never changed her hamster's cage. To this day, her hamster is almost 3 years old and she hasn’t changed her cage!!! I showed her your videos but she still didn’t change... some people are hard to convince... I TRULY hope that people can stop buying these cages and spend their money on small things like that instead of buying a big cage that is (sometimes ) cheaper!
Victoria, Thank You so much for helping me with hamster care, I just ordered my hamster Sage a Niteangel wheel! My 2 dwarf hamsters are so much more lively because of you! (they don't live together lol)
when I got my first hamster three years ago, I bought a cage similar to the crittertrail one. she lived in it for 10 months, and I came across your videos. you made me realize how unsuitable these cages were and I bought a 24 inch bin. still not big enough. that was around the time my first hamster passed. I got another hamster two days later and got a 40 inch bin. that hamster is my present hamster and she is living her best life in the 40 inch bin.
I almost bought one of these cages before seeing your videos. I didn't know anything about hamsters, I just wanted to have a pet. Thanks, to you, I have a hamster living in a 1500 square inch enclosure.
I am so sad to say that one of my main cages for the longest time was the kaytee critter trail two level…thankfully I learned, did better, and now my boy is in a 40 gallon exo terra with a 10 gallon look out attached! 😊
I bought the last cage when I bought my daughter a robo hamster, I feel like because he is small, the cage was good enough for him. The tubes were a good size for him an he liked the wheel. The little house is his favourite. Since finding your channel, we made him a bin cage an he loves borrowing in it. I think he might need a bigger one but he definitely likes the bin better then an actual cage.
it’s good that you upgraded his cage. All hamster species have the same requirements because it’s basically saying a shorter human would need a smaller space.
I adopted my hamster George and he was previously in the crittertrail and he could barely fit through the tubes. Thank you so much for making these videos!
Hey Victoria. I really appreciate your help and advice in your videos. You really helped me throughout my hamster journey. I started with a crittertrail for my hamster, but you inspired me to get my hamster an appropriate sized cage! Mocha my hamster is now living in a 875 sq inches of floor space with lots of enrichment, natural based toys, and lots of bedding! Than you sooo much for teaching everyone what hamsters really needed since there are lots of myths on hamsters such as "hamsters are small animals so they don't need big cages" or "they won't be able to breathe if you put too much bedding!" 😂😂 Love you Victoria, keep it up! ♥️💗
Hi Victoria! I’ve been having some trouble with cyber bullying by my ‘friends’ lately, and I’m so nervous to go back to shcool tomorrow. But this video made me forget about all of what they texted to me, and it just made me smile, so thank you, Victoria, for cheering me up ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
I always got this idea of putting a small cage inside a huge container, and left the small cage gate open... so the hamster will have a choice to either stay inside the small cage or get out to explore around the huge container.
It would sort of take up space you could be using to fill with good enrichments and deep bedding, I would also worry about a hamster climbing the bars/climbing on top of the small enclosure which could lead to an injured hamster.
Someone I know housed two female rats in that critterville arcade hamster home. Grrrr still makes me so mad. She would not listen to my advice. She also got the rats from a class “experiment” that fed one group of rats normal food and the other junk food. To quote their principle, “Gatorade and chocolate chip cookies”. People truly disguist me and I can’t believe people can get away with mistreating small animals so easily. It should be illegal
I'm so glad I found your channel! A day too late, but now I can fix every mistake we made quickly. I bought my daughters their first hamster yesterday. ( they are ages 11 and 12) Never having owed one myself I bought everything the petco associate told me to... yeah no... I now realize the cage we bought is absolutely pitifully small. ( Kaytee Critter Trail) I'm so sad for it now and we are going shopping the second the pet store opens today to get this little dwarf ( named marbles) a proper home. And proper food. I told them we were 100 percent newbies on everything and they told me to just feed it pellets.. once again I'm so glad I found you so we can give our new family addition it's best life possible. ❤
it’s sad to see that some people don’t know how to take care of hamsters, me personally when i got my first hamster and wasn’t the best with enrichment since it was a gift from my dad and i knew nothing about hamsters. i did my research here and quickly changed her life style, she went on to live for 3 and half years and unfortunately passed from us a while back but i’m glad i did my research for little olivia ❤️
The sad thing is that only like four years ago when I was like eight, I got a Dorf hamster and if you know about those hamsters, they have a lot of energy so even though they’re tiny, they require a lot of room I put my tiny little dwarf hamster, and a princess tiny tails house, and I thought that was big enough for her and I wondered why she absolutely hated me and I was always chewing the bars now I know that that is not suitable and I’ve came along way and I’m glad that I give my Syrian, hamster the right sized enclosure that can give him the enrichment he needs, I can’t believe my hamster used to live in that now I would consider that a travel enclosure
When I first got my Syrian (Baloo) I thought the second reviewed cage was enough until I found your videos a few days after I got him. Shame on me for not doing my research but I have upgraded him to a bin cage and he now has over 600+ sq inches of space with over 6+ inches of bedding. Just ordered him a new wheel cause his current one is too small. He loves his bin cage and as soon as I placed him in it he immediately started to borrow. I can see him sleeping and he seem so much happier. Thank you for sharing and teaching us all!
I upgraded my Syrian from the Sterilite 116 quart bin with over 500 square inches, to the Sterilite 200 quart bin with over 600 square inches. He is enjoying the additional enrichment the larger bin provided.
I just wanted to say thank you sm because you educate better so much people about proper hamster care ! You really give amazing advice and btw i overall just really love your content and your chanel ! And this is not about the video but do you think the getzoo dwarf hamster food mix is good ? Im thinking to add a bit of protein but im not sure
My Hampsters cage came with a horrible weel that would have caused so much pain to my Syrian hampster and I made sure to get a good size! As I wach this video he is running his little heart out on his cage. I would say that I am proud of my hampsters cage wich has 7inces of bedding, a sand bath, a large weel, a shelf, food and water bowls and loads of toys for him to chew hide in and play with! When I first got him you were the first Channel I look at for advice because of the great things I her about you. I am extremely thankful to you because with out your help my little fury friend would not have as much hampster friendly things and my even have ended up with pine shavings for bedding. Thank you! 💕
Early!!🥳 and I've been a fan since 2019 you really helped me with my hammy care i was the one that comment my hamster was sick on your video and sadly he did pass away. And my other hammy is at someone who really has experience! But i just want to say thank you for everything even tho i don't own a hamster anymore i still love watching your videos!! And i love this video it's so helpful and how do people even think this is a good cage! But anyway I'm srry for the long text i just want to say you're an inspiration to everyone that owns pets!❤
I literally have had my hamster (Remi) for nearly a year and I’m sad to say that I am one of those that weren’t educated before buying anything for her. I just got my very first pay check and everything will go towards her x

I’m so glad to have watched your videos. I literally had mine in a crappy cage like this. I have expanded his cage into a huge fish tank that he is living his best life.
Ugh I would use the Laura cage as a play area, HOW HOW HOW do people think that a hamster can live in such a small space. Hamsters are not prisoners duh. Poor hamsters they get no respect. Finally someone that actually understands that hamsters deserve and need better cages. I’m just so tired of seeing people buying hamsters without giving them the cages they need. Thank u Victoria that u spread awareness about these god damn cages.
This was an amazing video! I was wondering on how to clean a wooden nightangle wheel because whenever I clean my cage I always have a hard time cleaning the wheel. Have a great day!! :)
I keep forgetting that her name is Victoria! I keep calling her hamster lady
I would understandif giant hamsters locked us in a tiny cage and kept us as pets. 😮

@@Mariannab.Great nickname for her
Who else noticed that these small cages were usually over 40 dollars, while other cages are
Bin cages-$20
Detolf:$70
DIY-depending on how you make it, usually $40-50.
Tanks-$200
Keep this in mind before buying these cages, you can always go for something cheaper or the same price for so much more space. These companies just want money to hurt more animals. Give your money to better companies, that care about the hamsters.❤️
At $1 a gallon sales you can get a tank for $40!
omg the ones at my petsmart are like $60 - $150 for those small cages! i used a big bin from $20 from target so much better
@@meowthekitty321 here in the uk we don’t have those sales sadly :(
You can often find tanks for free or for less than store price, if you get them second hand. That's how I found all of my rodent tanks (60, 55, and 45 gallons all for free)
@meow meow really? How cool!
I think that the only reason why people say that the hamster 'loves' the cage is because they like the look of it themselves.
If a cage looks good people seem to automatically think that it is good.
Pet stores and companies simply don't care, as long as they're still making money.
Once I tried to convince a pet store manager to give there hamsters at least bigger wheels, he said "But if we put bigger wheels in there wouldn't be any space."
I replied with "then give them bigger cages."
He laughed his way out of a lot of the questions in that conversation.
its so frustrating the fact they sell these bad cages but at least from what i’ve noticed they started selling only paper bedding and less of the other types
So glad you were able to avoid getting one!
@@VictoriaRaechel I got 2 but ditched them and I bought like 4 big cages but my hamsters didn’t like them XD
Those cages that are given by the stores are just not ok at all
Many of us start off with cages like that and there's nothing you can do to change the past but with the new information you learn you are able to change the future!
same!! my old crittertrail is sitting in my closet. my hamster is currently living a GREAT life in a niteangle bigger world bc of Victoria!!!

Your tips will be used and my hamster will live in the best cage I am able to provide!!!
same!!
Omg same.

That's so awesome you two were able to make your own large hamster cage! Your future hamster is going to love it!
@@VictoriaRaechelHi Victoria thank you for informing me about these things I had the last one you Reviewed I watched your videos I knew I needed to upgrade...
Fortunately i realized my mistakes thanks to your videos and now my hamsters are happy without any stress
we love seeing the improvement 😄
Was just watching some of your old videos! My favorite thing to wake up to on Saturdays, is your posts!
I always recommend you
Thank you Phoenix! Some people just don't do research at all and may never come across any care sources so it sucks :(
Me too :(
i used to have one of these cages! it was pink with the top “carrier” of course. i tried to upgrade for my 7th birthday with my 3rd hamster. i have had hamsters since i was 4. i upgraded to a 10 gallon tank. since watching you my syrian hamster mr whiskers will now be living in a niteangel medium cage! he is very big now i also am giving him proper diet and getting a bigger wheel so thank you so much for giving all of us the education to be able to give our hamsters a happier life! 💕🐹
So Small! I watched this with my hammy and she looked disappointed! She has one of they cages that you said were good, at the end of the video and she has 9 inches of bedding. I got her for a rescue that was housing her in a too small cage... But she's happy now, thanks to your guidance on how to be a good hamster parent.
i recently got a male 10 week old hamster which i named Pringle..he is an absolute joy! thanks to you its way easier to take care of him and understand his behaviours. i find it awful that people find that hamsters are ‘toys’ and ‘useless’ as they only live for 2 years. luckily we have ppl like you inn the world who care abt animals! thanks!

Aw that's great to hear!
Love you! 💖
Aw hello again!
I have the cage at 8:14 and after watching your videos I thought it would be bad for my hamster. So, since I can’t return it, I instead got a bin, connects the tube to it, and now my hamster has 2x the amount of room! :))
Oh my word those poor hamsters in the white tiny cage😞 sad how ppl don’t research an animal before getting one💔

I love how every time Victoria makes one of these videos she roasts all the cages!
Can we see more pics on pancake on PJ plz
That's so amazing to hear!! ❤️
Thank you as always Lori!

I'm happy to hear he's doing well now!
I think the whole world should see Victoria's videos because then people will take better care of hamsters and other small animals.
I sadly had the Kaytee one and similar styles before I knew better. I wish I had known all this information before owning my first hamster as an adult. I upgraded to a bin cage and my hamsters have never been happier.
When I started watching you I realized that my cage was only 330 square inches but now its 750 square inches! Tysm!

I absolutley hate when people say the hamster loves the cage, like how would they know.
I love how amused she gets when the companies try to make the cage sound suitable in the description but it’s really just terrible

By the same logic we could say prisoners are happy in their cell because they sleep on their bed and use the toilet in the corner.

hello! i have a quick question. My syrian hammy just recently passed, and I’m going to get another one. At the moment we have the ikea detolf cage, and i want to get a robovorski dwarf hamster. Do you think that’s a good cage?
I started off with a Ferplast cage
It was the biggest most expensive cage I could find in the store
….and it didn’t even reach the North American bare minimum floor space
As someone who has kept reptiles and is considering a hamster I find the recommended tank size really small and manufacturers making their enclosures EVEN smaller baffles me!
great video! can i just add, none of these cages are eco friendly or good for the environment as they are all made of plastic!
If you didn't use hay before you should. Orchard grass and botanical hay has a sweet smell that can mask the smell a bit.
@@rachelaylmer4314 thanks! I was gonna tell my parents about that but I am allergic to hay. I really appreciate the tip though!

It definitely takes time to convince people that hammies needs larger space. Thank you for your work! You are always an inspiration :)
I hope Sage likes his wheel!!! 😄 I really like the NiteAngel wheel's, they're so quiet!
when I got my first hamster three years ago, I bought a cage similar to the crittertrail one. she lived in it for 10 months, and I came across your videos. you made me realize how unsuitable these cages were and I bought a 24 inch bin. still not big enough. that was around the time my first hamster passed.
Than you sooo much for teaching everyone what hamsters really needed since there are lots of myths on hamsters such as "hamsters are small animals so they don't need big cages" or "they won't be able to breathe if you put too much bedding!" 😂😂
Love you Victoria, keep it up! ♥️💗
I'm happy to be apart of your hamster journey!!
I’m so glad informative TH-camrs like Victoria exists 👌 she’s got all the facts
Hi Victoria! I’ve been having some trouble with cyber bullying by my ‘friends’ lately, and I’m so nervous to go back to shcool tomorrow. But this video made me forget about all of what they texted to me, and it just made me smile, so thank you, Victoria, for cheering me up ❤️🧡💛💚💙💜
I'm sorry to hear that, though if your "friends" are cyberbullying you those are not friends at all and I would go and find some new friends!
@@VictoriaRaechel aww, thank you, I will 🥰
I always got this idea of putting a small cage inside a huge container, and left the small cage gate open... so the hamster will have a choice to either stay inside the small cage or get out to explore around the huge container.
It would sort of take up space you could be using to fill with good enrichments and deep bedding, I would also worry about a hamster climbing the bars/climbing on top of the small enclosure which could lead to an injured hamster.
@@VictoriaRaechel I see... thank you for the analysis :)
I think that you're amazing and I think it's important to talk about this
Someone I know housed two female rats in that critterville arcade hamster home.
OMG- that’s so horrible 😢
I'm so glad I found your channel! A day too late, but now I can fix every mistake we made quickly. I bought my daughters their first hamster yesterday. ( they are ages 11 and 12) Never having owed one myself I bought everything the petco associate told me to... yeah no... I now realize the cage we bought is absolutely pitifully small. ( Kaytee Critter Trail)
I'm so sad for it now and we are going shopping the second the pet store opens today to get this little dwarf ( named marbles) a proper home. And proper food. I told them we were 100 percent newbies on everything and they told me to just feed it pellets.. once again I'm so glad I found you so we can give our new family addition it's best life possible. ❤
Never too late to make changes and improvements 😄
it’s sad to see that some people don’t know how to take care of hamsters, me personally when i got my first hamster and wasn’t the best with enrichment since it was a gift from my dad and i knew nothing about hamsters. i did my research here and quickly changed her life style, she went on to live for 3 and half years and unfortunately passed from us a while back but i’m glad i did my research for little olivia ❤️
Great job for upgrading your care!
Thank you for the sweet comment! The getzoo diets are great ones!
i’ve been waiting for you to post omg!!!! i love ur channel so much u have helped me improve my hamsters life so so much!❤️❤️
Happy to help!
Well thank you! 💖
watching this and keep looking over at my bin cage and feeling very proud of it lol
I literally have had my hamster (Remi) for nearly a year and I’m sad to say that I am one of those that weren’t educated before buying anything for her. I just got my very first pay check and everything will go towards her x
I have a question! are chia seeds safe for hamsters? I have them and want to include them into my food mix ☺the entire nutrition facts on the back: Calories: 150 , Total fat: 12% , Saturated Fat: 5% , Polyunsaturated Fat 7g , Monounsaturated Fat 0.5g , Cholesterol 0% , Sodium 5mg: 0% , Total Carbohydrate 13g: 5% , Dietary Finer 10g: 36% , Total sugars 0g 0% , Protein 5g , Vitamin D 0mcg: 0% , Calcium 189mg: 15% , Iron 2.3mg: 15% , Potassium 122mg: 2%
Sorry if it was hard to read or what I included wasn't necessary, I tried to include everything I saw on the back just to be sure :) if it's hard to read and you would like to see the specific one I have, its Organic Chia Seeds by nature's intent
Yes they are!! You can also feed them sprouted 😁
@@VictoriaRaechel Thank you so much!
I’m so glad to have watched your videos. I literally had mine in a crappy cage like this. I have expanded his cage into a huge fish tank that he is living his best life.
You are very polite and well spoken even when talking about stupidly small cages! I hope this means more people will watch this and learn from you. 🙂
Thank you!
I’m lucky I found your channel before I got my first hamster he is very happy because of u!💗
This was an amazing video! I was wondering on how to clean a wooden nightangle wheel because whenever I clean my cage I always have a hard time cleaning the wheel. Have a great day!! :)
