Recut is some of the best money I've ever spent, period. Saves me hours every time I edit. I can't believe how flexible the settings are, and being able to export into an editor timeline is priceless.
If I did more docs I'd use Descript for sure. I did one a while back interviewing 8+ people and I transcribed it all by hand (before software like this existed) and then highlighted quotes with different colors based on themes. I then did a rough edit with the text, but then I had to go back and actually edit it. Such amazing timesavers we have now.
we used a nearly identical workflow (but used an edited version of a youtube transcript) for the doc we did! the highlighted sections only, we taped them all up around a big office and then made the edits from that paper cut ... it was 11 hours long lolol
I’m so into this video. I’ve seen talk of descript for a while and I should probably try it. My assumption is I’ll be the same way, I prefer to edit visually. I hate reading 😆 but could see how it would speed some people up. Now recut? I need to try this. That’s a shit ton of time saved
A problem I seem to have with Recut is that is seems to reduce the audio quality for me for some reason. I was using MKV file format. Could that be the reason.
recut on this one -- i use recut as like default, descript is only for when i need a fresh new way to do something longer or differently if i'm dreading it
Haha more like for overly analytical people like me, who want to see all of the details in a video in every way possible. Im great at all forms of editing, but to have all 3 is a dream come true.
Descript also limits you on the number of hrs that is included in the membership. So for people that edit podcast they would have to pay a nit more for more additional hrs. Im about to download Recut and try it out and I hope that before the year is out they add a video text editor. Shoot or I hope devinici Resolves makes their transcript editor process function more like descript. At first thats what I thought I was getting when I upgraded to the Studio version. Boy was I wrong 😂.
Hey would love to hear the issues or positives you are having with Davinci. I am debating between descript or Davinci right now for faster editing especially bc I prefer to have all the words in front of me. Thanks!
@@eco.patterns You will end up saving a lot more money in the long run with DR and you get high level tools. Its a learning curve but nothing too hard when starting simple. Unfortunately their edit via transcript feature sucks at the moment, because you can't really edit any seamlessly using it. It has a ton of work it needs to make it a faster and more user friendly feature. As an FYI the "delete silence is very glitchy and will sometime delete dialogue and it also doesn't pick up on all of your umms and ahhs. I also noticed that it will not add repeated statements. Very weird. But I hope that they are working to fix it, because I have been sending them feedback. But, if you want something that will allow for you to edit seamlessly using transcripts, descript is the best option on the market. They have a monthly subscription and if you go over 30hrs of editing you will have to pay like $2/hr for more time. But it's super intuitive and gives you a lot more collaborative flexibility than most other products I have seen. It's almost 1 of a kind at the moment. Very cool software. Recut is good for removing the silences. It worked great for a 3hr podcast I was editing, but it did get a bit glitchy after adjusting some of the controls too much on the really long audio edits. Other than that its great. I really hope that they add more features soon as well. They give you a free trial for 5 full edits. I hope that helps.

Personally I want to use it to quickly make reels from longer videos so the transcript editing makes that a lot easier. Hopefully Davinci can iron things out then maybe I'll consider paying for it as I don't like subscriptions. Thanks again!

I use both as well!! I use descript daily to create shorts for clients.
Can I copy te text from descript in another editor, modify in another editor and then paste back to descript?
i don't think so, or at least i have not found a way
Resolve has the new transcription feature in 18.5 beta and it works great! Love working off the words I say.

hmm -- i have never had this issue as it just draws from source files once i get it into FCP

I didn't catch the recut review. I don't understand what you just say about recut. I know descript well, I'm curious what is recut.
Recut is another stand alone app, that uses silence within a clip to make cuts
