I currently use Q for the tail and W for the head, likely from a Javier vid. It works well but thinking I can add more based on some of your insights here, thanks. Nice video. I think fcpx is used very differently from person to person. I mostly use magic trackpad for zooming.
When it comes to speed editing, I prefer using TimeBolt. Saved me hours of work.

I do something similar in Premiere Pro, but I really need to take the time to change some of the shortcuts. Editing faster than 1x is such a time saver, especially if you filmed it and already know what's in it.
