    Virtually every golfer with a handicap over 4 has some of this in some degree. This Vid/Lesson is brilliant...not perhaps complete for every situation...but certainly addresses the reason why coming in from the inside is such a tricky thing if you're extending early. Thank you. Subscribed.

    Looking forward to reviewing some of my recordings to see if this is what I'm doing. I struggle massively with early extension, hands flip over and I get a lovely toey hook!

    I only learnt this year that early extension is a compensation or consequence of another swing fault. It is not a fault within itself which makes all the bum on walls/chairs drills etc that I’ve been doing for years redundant and a waste of time.
    Great video Pete 👍🏼

    Number 1 best video ever. I have this swing fault to the point of lower back pain. My consistency is terrible because of it. The devil of it is that it's more of a subtle thing that's hard to notice without video.

    I've had this swing flaw for years and with numerous lessons have not been able to resolve it. I can't wait to work on this drill and see some improvent. BTW: got some nice swing videos of Tiger and others at the pga. Really cool to be so close to them

    i was bugged by this for years but never knew what it was just saw the results. i went for lessons and such but never got it fixed until i got a computer and found out about it on youtube by you and others. thnx i believe i finally worked it out.

    Well done Pete! This is probably the biggest single swing fault in golf. You broke it down simply and concisely. I’d take a lesson from you if I was in England. Which I can’t wait to visit.

    Nice analysis and good presentation. Golf is a game of compensations. Each fault has to have a counter-fault to allow you to hit the ball. I like to say faults typically occur in pairs. This is why golf is so hard.

    Amazing video Peter! I’ve struggled with a steepish downswing and early extension for so long and never even considered the two faults were related. I’ve been trying your three stage drill and have finally cracked it! My downswing now feels a lot more ‘around the body’ with the shaft shallowing out nicely. My early extension has vanished too! Thank you so much 👍🏻

    This is a much better explanation than being too close to the ball, improper hip rotation, etc.

    My swing was the humping the go movement as you said XD.....But seriously glad you addressed this issue Pete, I struggled with the same problem of early extension, and I would ALWAYS hit thin shots, and contact was sketchy, and i'd get snap hooks and blocks, this really explained it well.

    Many thanks Peter. This is my swing fault and have been focusing on keeping my butt back to prevent early extension, but it is the position at the top. Hoping this will help my ball striking. I play off 9, mainly due to a very strong short game and scrambling from inconsistent ball striking. Thanks

    This is why I like your coaching approach; You technically look at each step.
    It may be the nerd in me, but the comparison to dissecting problems in engineering/networking is similar.
    "What is the problem?"
    "What do we want to change?"
    "What do we need to fix?"
    My experience with ISO-9001, SixSigma, LEAN Methodolgies, etc, all lend themselves to eliminating waste and getting to the 'right' answer by looking at all of the issues (I'm almost surprised to NOT see a fishbone diagram here! LOL)
    Great stuff Pete. Thank you again Sir!

    Wow. I've been struggling with early extension for 2 years. Probably longer but diagnosed about 2 years ago. I've always believed it was an effect of things earlier in the swing. I've messed about with wrist angles and the thought of keeping my butt back with mixed results. Literally, 2 hours ago I was at the range and tried this very same thing -- before seeing the video -- but without these much better drills. Back at it tomorrow! Thanks for this great (and, for me, timely) video.

    Had a lesson on exactly this today. I early extend which is likely a by-product of my over the top swing of old. Now that I'm swinging on plane it's something I hope to eradicate from my swing.

  • @dciccoritti
    @dciccoritti 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Good to see a coach who sees an early extension and doesn't say "Don't early extend" I do have a question though, as the early extension was caused by something else, do you think his right elbow at the top was also being caused by something else? Great video as always 👍

  • @JLMedialtd
    @JLMedialtd 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Peter, Peter, PETER...... where can I send you some money........ What a great and insightful video. I took it to the range today and it helped so much. Like all new movements, you have to over exaggerate them in order to 'actually' get any difference during the swing, (Well I do at least, 'Feel & Real' like Dan says). But watching playback in videos, the practice swings are soooo much better. I've struggled to correct the early extension for years, my club goes from a pretty good on plane position to a very steep shaft in the transition resulting in me thrusting the hips and delivery a high handle, this video and mindset seemed to help today. Looking forward to trying again tomorrow.

    1. Have you done/looked into TPI in any way??

    Great video. I might have first started with getting the hips rotating correctly on the backswing with a lower lead hip and higher and deeper trail hip with a straighter right leg. Arms work to get high when the shoulders are flat because of poor hip rotation. Do this and keep the arms relaxed and the arm problem is solved. Club lays back on downswing when the head remains back with the right knee driving laterally.

    My swing on camera, handicap (4.2 at a club that is 1 at most others and generally knocking under the handicap coming down) and swing in general without any disrespect or competition with your student is much better however I lose power and consistency and have to practice a crazy amount with or without ball to eradicate this, it’s not quite to the same degree but it is still a slight forward movement which means the swing isn’t following a natural path and movement like hitting a baseball etc. Great vid and would love to have lessons with you on this!

    Omg, this is my swing! And Inhad no idea it’s because of my trailing arm! I’ve been trying to focus only on my hips! I’m an improving OTT slicer, so I was struggling with why I started pull hooks. I haven’t seen a coach explain this reason and sure enough when I look at my video my trailing arm has internal rotation! Still OTT even though I though I fixed it by getting rid of my chicken wing.

    I know I have a similar move. I start steepen at the top of my downswing, early extend, then flip through impact in order to not slam my clubhead into the ground. I've worked for years to try to fix this, but have never been successful. Though the onus is really on my lack of dedicated practice and not so much with the instruction I've received.

    Great vid Pete. Always had early extension in my swing for years. From filming my swing, the cause seemed to be that I wasn't clearing my hips at impact (my impact position was very similar to my set up). So I've been working on turning my hips on the downswing to clear them at impact which seems to have removed or significantly reduce my early extension. Has this cause for early extension been seen in any of your clients?

    His steep shaft position is caused by the weight. on the front of the right foot rather than the heal. It is a natural adaption. to be in. balance.
    Pressure has to go to the heal in the right foot for the backswing to move correctly

    Pete - I've been watching your practice swings on the various recent videos - they seem to me (an I'm no Pro!) that you are forcing yourself to swing across the ball (out to in, rather than in to out)? Is that right - is it a recent 'swing feel' to correct an ailment or error, or is it something I should be doing too?

    If you learn the malaska move "the handle works in and the clubhead works out", then there wont be any early extension anymore. The clubhead generates so much force that the body needs to counter that. The body needs to push away from the ball. But thats not an active movement its an effect of physics. You cannot do it conciously. The golfswing is a motion created my arms and hands. The body just reacts.

    I spent years doing the forward thrust (goat humping move) Peter and can relate to this video. You explain it really well as usual.
    The feeling of turning my torso with the lead arm squeezed against the left pectorial muscle (right handed golfer) in the downswing helped me a lot to over come the feeling of using any arm/shoulder muscles..........
