I have an ASUS BR1100CKA - it has an NVME SSD slot taken up by the original drive... planning on upgrading the hard drive... I also installed the Windows 11 Pro Education upgrade for free from the Windows 10 Pro Education OS on the original 60GB drive by using an external USB key for space. Got my ASUS BR1100CKA for $99 at Microcenter... best thing is I don't have Google sucking up all my data...
I believe the BR1100 actually has an NVME SSD slot, so you could upgrade the storage. And I imagine you could even switch your OS to that SSD, probably speeding things up a little.
Added SAMSUNG 980 SSD 1TB PCle 3.0x4, NVMe M.2 2280, Internal Solid State Drive, setup motorcycling tuning. had to reset window too be use for business not student mode when setting up other wise it wouldn't work..
it depends on what is "doesnt break the bank".. budget ones i think Lenovo Chromebook Duet 10.1 is not bad.. comes with keyboard and backstand.. and when you remove them, it feels like a Android tablet with a 1080p display.
> no clear winner To me, obviously it's the 214. 8gigs, less bloat OS and a massive battery. If I want Windows, I'd rather get an i5/R5 with upgradable hw.
The br1100f can be upgraded with a nvme. If it came with 8gb ram or even a single sodimm slot it would be the clear winner. if a user wants a less bloated OS, that is always an option. Usually its much easier to change OS with a windows laptop than a chromeos laptop.

That depends on the model you get, our unit here comes with eMMC storage and upon cracking it open there isn't a slot you can install a NVMe SSD.
