You can’t convince me that the Steelers could have turned Lamar Jackson into what he is today. Baltimore changed their offensive philosophy, went thru multiple OCs, and had a vision beyond the next game. Nothing that has happened in recent history suggests they would have done any of those things.
The biggest problem is the Steelers have had no franchise QB to compete within their division against Lamar Jackson and Joe Burrow or confernce against Patrick Mahomes and Josh Allen, because their consistent over .500 record prevents them getting top draft picks.
Mason would have worked out just fine at QB had he gotten the support and development he needed from the coaching staff. Ben didn't like him from the start but should have realized that his career was nearing the finish line and he could have helped to prepare Mason for the backup role and his eventual replacement as QB-1.
The guy hit on the head, total and complete mismanagement. Oh, now they don't have a quarterback. What was wrong with Ben? Why did they force Ben out? Ben didn't want to go, he wasn't ready to retire, his stats were fine. WTH? They got themselves all worked up into some kind of frenzy and decided to get rid of Ben. It's all moot anyway until they replace Tomlin. This team quit on him at the end of the season whether anyone wants to admit it or not, he's done in Pittsburgh.
I suspect Big Ben would have raised hell if they drafted Lamar! And I think Ben is the best quarterback to wear a Steelers uniform in the last 50 years!!! Maybe some other people have seen Johnny United in a Steeler uniform, but that was before my time. Look at how 7 treated Mason! He would’ve seen Lamar as such a threat. I don’t think he could stand it. Plus like a lot of these other comments here , I don’t think the Steelers coaches know how to develop players. I think the players are left to their own devices.
Bob p the host of the rooney and tomlin wine and cheese club...rooney is a dud and tomlin is a average coach he cant even coach up a secondary and draft well and he was a secondary position coach lol, he stinks at everything except being motivational. cant draft cant hire cord cant coach x amd os doesnt have vision for anything except 70s football and rooney isnt that dude to do whats necessary and make bold moves. 9-8 next year

Especially that part about having a vision beyond the next game. I think Tomlin is incapable of doing that.
@base1581 Steelers had a chance to draft Mahomes too.
The problem is Tomlin! Period! You have changed everything but one constant remains. The Standard is Trash!!!

Tomlin drafts lamar, doesnt change a thing, doesnt develope him like baltimore did. Tomlin ruins him and people call the pick a bust
The reason why the Steelers passed on a higher rated quarterback is that they didn't want to upset Ben. Especially a first round pick.
The root of the Steelers problems started 18 years ago when Tomlin was hired.
Can’t draft or develop anyone.
Ding ding ding

Exactly!!!!
I’ve said this for years. Mike Tomlin hates pocket passing QB’s
🔥Tomlin
Tomlin has to go
let me wake up to news that steelers have made another trade with raiders/bears...
Bob is good, but tight with Tomlin, so i will take with a grain of salt.
Of course he is he does the Mike Tomlin Show together
The problem started when Mike came aboard, he’s an average coach, not decent, not good, much less great, decent at best, at best,
The title of your video grabbed my attention
Correct Joe
The last four drafts of Colbert were horrible. At least we seem to have had 2 good ones under Kahn.
One of the biggest MYTHS is that the Steelers can draft wide receivers
If so, where are they? I don't see them anywhere
They group guys like Claypool in Bryant into that myth. JuJu was tough, but only because teams had to worry about Brown
As far as drafting wide receivers, only Sanders and Brown have Super Bowl rings ....with other teams!!

These guys never blame Ben for anything steelers couldn't draft a qb couldn't have a qb coach
Mac Jones? I could live with that!

Dumblin thinks that being able to run like Lamar Jackson grows on trees
Dumblin wants a mobile quarterback, though
