MTV played this video 20x/day for 2 yrs straight...pretty much.
yup
Exactly 💯
Yep they sure did
I remember, I was 10 😂
Yep I was in early 20s when these guys were starting out, LOVE RHCP
This song is pure unadulterated funk with no apologies 🔥
They are huge George Clinton fans, the king of funk. ❤🔥
Brilliant, isn't it?!!
I'm struggling to agree because while it may sound a bit funky, it's NOT Funk.
@@KC-ns9do Indeed. He produced their second album, Freaky Styley.
ACTUAL funk rock. Everything they did after never compared to BSSM. I MISS early Peps.
Higher Ground! Funky bass, Flea on fire!
The first song I heard by them in 1989, 9th grade.
A Stevie Wonder cover. Awesome
I want Flea’s pants from the video
Amen...wild Peppers!
They do a kick-ass cover of "Love Rollercoaster" too!
I didn't see where anyone had commented on it yet but the inspiration for the song is actually really sweet. The lead singer was looking through his girlfriend's closet & he saw a jacket he liked (she was a punk rock singer in the 80s), and commented about how cool it was. So she told him to keep it & said "if you have a closet full of clothes and you try to keep them all, your life will get very small. But if you have a full closet and someone sees something they like, if you give it to them, the world is a better place.". So the theme of the song is selflessness and altruism.
This. Give it all away.
OMG I didn’t know he dates Nina Hagen!
Preeesh I never thought about it that way
How come everybody wanna keep it like the Kaiser?
Cool story. I didn’t know anything about the origin of this song.
Blood Sugar Sex Magik was such a unique album. I could not stop playing it!
So good! 😍
Apache Rose Peacock. 😬
Nor me. The soundtrack of my university days.
This is their earliest hit that really broke them to the public at large.
Facts.
@@RobertSmith-js2kz True Men Don't Kill Coyotes was when they first broke through.
For "mainstream fans" it was Under The Bridge that made them famous. This second single from Blood Sugar Sex Magic made them rock stars.
@@chrisberntgen3239 to the mainstream? Hardly.
Nah. Not even close.
Amber said what I've believed my whole life (63 years old): 'I do not know what the song is about at this moment but I don't give one single darn cuz I'm lost in the sound'. It's agonizing for me to watch people struggle to figure out what a song is about while completely ignoring the sound. I STILL don't know the words or meaning of some of my favorite songs and it does not matter. I still love them!
Often I can't filter the words out of the notes, so I am with you.
100% agreed. There are songs I have listened to for 40 years that would be in my top 200 songs all time and I’ll read some recent comment about the song explaining it’s meaning and I’ll go “hymn, interesting”… but don’t really give a damn. Not all songs - but lots are like that
This song is just basically about sexytimes with anything that moves 😂
The words go,”Whatcha got you gotta get it put it in you” that’s all I got.🤣🤣🤣🤷🏽
I always tell Jay and Amber to stop focusing on the lyrics so much.. Because back in the days we didn't we just groove to the music..
this whole album is funky as hell.
Yabba dabba, yabba dabba dabba doo now
Yabba dabba, yabba dabba dabba doo now
"Bedrock Anthem"
One of Weird Al's very best sendups.
Yep, ya gotta see the Weird Al version.
Agreed!!
Got a car, gonna push it with my feet now. Gonna take my family out to eat now. Jumbo ribs at the drive-in can't be beat now....made from brontosaurus, baby, not moo cow!
I was thinking about Al the entire time...I can't watch this video without thinking about the parody version.
Yeah guys now that you heard this and saw this video you gotta do the weird Al one
"There's a River born to be a giver, keep you warm won't let you shiver" is a reference to their friend, actor, River Phoenix.
You'll also like their songs - Dani California, breaking the girl, and their cover of Stevie Wonder's higher ground.
They need to do the video for Dani California!
I love their Higher Ground video!
This song and album really threw the Chili Peppers into the mainstream.
You need the band CAKE in your life!
"The Distance" was their first hit.
Yes! Or short skirt/long jacket. Problem is in the video people talk over it the whole time.
Slash rule's 😊
How have they not done Cake yet!?
YES!
@@The80sCatThe theme song from Chuck!
Y’all are about to flip out
And they did! Love their energy!!!!
@@BingWrosby *they seem to be a very loving couple*
Flip-out confirmed from the JUMP!
@@enricovankeeken1624 100%. Check out the first time Anthony "bares his legs" at about 5:56 to 6:03. the reaction BETWEEN them, lmao! Amber squeals a little and then looks over just as Jay is givng her a playful "jealous" look, like" "Really? Ur gonna look at that like that? haha" ANd then Amber sort of covers her face like embarrassed but also playfully. Not to psychoanalayze too much, but esp. in slo-mo, u see some Real Stuff there, and it's beautiful!
It wasn't just the instruments that sported a G string.
Anthony Kiedis is the lead singer, their whole lineup is lit. Flea is their otherworldly bassist, Chad Smith is their dope Drummer, and their amazing guitarist is John Frusciante
You mean Will Ferrell their drummer. lol
The lyrics are tangents around the idea of giving...one of the later lyrics about their deceased good friend, River Phoenix
There's a River born to be a giver
Keep you warm won't let you shiver
His heart is never gonna wither
Come on everybody, time to deliver
This one is my favorite RHCP song, with "Under the Bridge" being a close second.
Their cover of Love Roller Coaster 🔥
One of my favorites!! 🔥🔥
From the film "Beavis and Butthead Do America." Yeah, I called it a film.
This band is bonafide genius. Talented, intelligent, musical wonders ... and officially legendary. They have always pushed the boundaries~but, that is what they do, have done and continue to.
There recent howard stern performance of this song is 🔥 all aged like fine wine!
Cypress Hill "Insane in the brain". Great 90s jam
They started as rap/rock with a heavy funk influence. The more melodic songs came later In life.
Also the bassist flea is the absolute best ever!!
Flea kidnapped little Princess Leia. Somehow, I ain't mad at him...
This came out in 1991. One of the first big hits to blend rock/hip-hop/funk. It opened a lot of doors for other artists to get heard
The list of great albums/songs released in 1991 is jaw dropping. One thing in common: they were all from bands that started in the 80s or even in the 70s. That's how great those two decades were for music. A long gone era, now. And we took it all for granted...
Indeed and it wasn't a hit in the UK until 1994, and then it got to No. 9 in the chart
The band have freely admitted that one of the biggest influences on their sound was the Gang of Four.
th-cam.com/video/I_QJwR6D9d4/w-d-xo.html
PEAK Chili Peppers. You finally got here. There was a second coming (Californication) but this is pretty much top-of-the-mountain for these guys. When it ALL came together. FUNK Rock smashes into the mainstream.
The whole album.
BEST!
RHCP is an 80s group. The started out as very rap/funk and slowly became more of a singing group.
"By The Way" and "Can't Stop" are big songs and VERY fun videos
Their early stuff with hillel was heavy punk influenced with a touch of funk.
“Can’t stop” is a must
Anthony Kiedis is his name . Suggestion: "Higher Ground". Yes, the Stevie Wonder song. You're welcome. 😊 😊😊😊
They'll love it! I think that may have been the first song that made me love RHCP.
I don't like Stevie wonder.. at all
@@IHATEDIAPERDONWth is wrong with you??
Lead singer is Anthony Kiedis. He plays a villain in the movie Point Break.
And Flea is Marty’s coworker in Back to the Future II
@@caseymoe816flea is also one of the nihilists in The Big Lebowski
Kiedis also had a bit part in a movie called F.I.S.T. with Sylvester Stallone.
You may have done it "Soul to Squeeze" is a great song. Lots to discover from these guys!
Soul to Squeeze is my favourite. Plus the video is awesome.
The bassist for this group was Needles in the Back to The Future franchise!!
Flea was also Donnie in wild thornberrys
Don't forget Big Lebowski!
I believe that he was also the tattoo artist in the movie Son in Law with Paulie Shore
I can't hear this without hearing Weird Al's version based on The Flintstones.
Just knew y'all would love this cut!!! Awesome Reaction!!!
One of my favorite songs of theirs along with under the bridge, scar tissue, can't stop, Californication, other side, soul to squeeze
Saw this band before their first record was released. The venue was an old boxing gym. They had 2 bass players. $4 for a ticket. It was a hopping good show!!!
I'm still reeling from their performance of this song on the MTV Awards.
I have that whole 92 awards show recorded with pre and post show. Just incredible as you know. 🤘
Check out their cover of love roller coaster
Oh yeah, what A great cover!
Short story about Fleas spiral haircut in this video. When I was just out of bootcamp in the early 90's and in my first training command, I shaved my buddys hair like that and literally as soon as I finished, one of the higher up came blowing thought the barracks for a surprise inspection. Well. With no time to shave it off, we fell into formation and when one of the instructors passed him, all i heard was "WHAT THE FUCK IS THIS FUCKING SHIT!!!". Long story short, we must have done 1000 pushups that afternoon. lol
yes!!!
🤣 That's hilarious! Thank you for sharing that story! Also, thank you for your service. 💝
Great story! Active duty Army here 1990 - 1994.
This is a banger of an album, this song along with Under the Bridge that really put them on the map in the early 90s. They put on a tremendous live show live, saw them twice and its an experience with Flea being the main draw as the man can play a bass guitar like no other.
They performed naked at Woodstock '99. This is my favorite RHCP song.
I can believe TH-cam still has their live performance at Woodstock 7/25/1999. The Base guitarist (Flea) is completely nude. I was there on my birthday that day.
@@joe.man.the bassist flea was nude lmao not john lol😂
@@joe.man. You’re right bass is still technically a type of guitar but “lead guitar” 99% of the time refers to a standard electric guitar. The bass is normally part of the rhythm section with the drums (unless it’s just a solo or something).
I always thought they at least wore socks 😀 (Lead guitar sock and bass guitar sock)
For more Flea (bassist) and Anthony Keidis (lead vocals) you should watch "The Chase" on a movie night. It's a fun ridiculous crime movie.
Another banger by them is Around The World!!!
God, this takes me back. Breaking The Girl on MTV and playing Blood Sugar Sex Magik for what seemed like the whole of 1992.
Good times.
Every generation always had
one band that when you hear just screams California. The Red Hot Chili Peppers were the Beach Boys of the 90s. Always bring the party always bring happy vibes. Well deserved Hall fame induction.
Yet is from Michigan
This whole album is an absolute masterpiece of the 90's, versatile, funky, heavy, dark, sexual, magical, I guess the name is perfect. Blood Sugar Sex Magik. I remember being like 9 years old and listening to this and was like wtf! A whole new musical world opened up for me and since then there was no turning back. Flea was my bass idol until I reached Primus and then Les Claypool took over but this album will always be in my top 3 for what it meant for me. Not a bad song from this album.
100%
Suck My Kiss and Give It Away were on the same album "Blood Sugar Sex Magic." 😊
When I saw this in the 90's, I fell in love with the Red Hot Chilli Peppers. Thank you for the reaction💜.
Such a classic!!!!!🔥🔥🔥
This sing brings out the 17 year old in me. Every time. I am unleashed when I hear this!
This was the classic Red Hot Chili Peppers in 1991 (also the current line-up) of Anthony Kiedis (vocals), Michael 'Flea' Balzary (bass), John Frusciante (guitar) and Chad Smith (drums)... their big hit record 'Bloodsugarsexmagik' in 1991 would sell 7x platinum.
Singer Anthony Kiedis formed the Red Hot Chili Peppers in L.A. in the 80's w/ bassist Flea... the 2 had known each other since they were kids in school. Bassist Flea credited late RHCP guitarist Hillel Slovak for introducing him to rock music as a teen and the two musicians jammed together in the local scene... Anthony Kiedis was trying to be a Hollywood actor at the time (His dad was a minor actor)... but one night, he joined Flea and Hillel Slovak onstage and rapped a poem he had written and the venue went wild... That was how he became the singer and the Red Hot Chili Peppers were born... One night, the band decided to play an encore in the nude w/ a sock over their junk 😂 and that gave them headlines... However, Red Hot Chili Peppers were signed in 1984 just after Hillel Slovak and drummer Jack Irons had left the band.
RHCP released their debut album in 1984 but it was a poor effort w/ (late) guitarist Jack Sherman and drummer Cliff Martinez... Guitarist Hillel Slovak rejoined RCHP in 1985 to record their 2nd album 'Freaky styley' w/ producer George Clinton... However, the band was not appealing to audiences w/ their mix of 70's funk and punk rock... Drummer Jack Irons returned in 1987 on their 3rd album 'The uplift mofo party plan'... and it sold better w/ the singles - 'Fight like a brave' ... 'Behind the Sun'...
However, hard drugs were effecting RHCP members and both Anthony Kiedis and Hillel Slovak were abusing he+++n ... and that led to tragedy in 1988 when guitarist Hillel Slovak was found dead in his home from an apparent he+++n OD... (Years later, RHCP depicted his struggle visually in the music video for the song 'Otherside') ... Drummer Jack Irons quit the band after Slovak's death.
Attempting to get clean, Anthony Kiedis and Flea decided to carry on w/ the Red Hot Chili Peppers... they hired John Frusciante (guitar) who was still a teen, and Chad Smith (drums) and released the album "Mother's Milk" in 1989 - it was the first RHCP album to sell gold in the US. The cover was controversial featuring a topless female model.
In 1991, RHCP worked w/ producer Rick Rubin on their 5th album 'Bloodsugarsexmagik' and it became their breakthrough album w/ MTV and radio singles - 'Give it away'... 'Under the Bridge' ... 'Breaking the girl' ... 'Suck my kiss'...
Unfortunately, guitarist John Frusciante became agitated w/ success and quit the band in 1992... he would also start abusing he+++n after leaving RHCP in the 90's. The band had to tour w/ session guitarists and eventually hired Jane's Addiction guitarist Dave Navarro for their 1995 album 'One hot minute'... However, Navarro was fired in '97 for his own drug problems.
In 1998, John Frusciante finally got clean and was asked to rejoin the Red Hot Chili Peppers... In 1999, they delivered another 7x platinum hit record 'Californication'... w/ the hit singles - 'Scar tissue'... 'Otherside'... 'Californication'... 'Around the world'.
They followed it up w/ the 2002 album 'By the way'... which was a mellow record for RHCP... In 2006, RHCP released the double album 'Stadium arcadium'... w/ the hit singles - 'Dani California'... 'Snow (Hey oh)'... However, John Frusciante quit the band again by 2008 and Josh Klinghoffer (guitar) did the tour and joined the Red Hot Chili Peppers.
RHCP remained successful w/ the albums "I'm with you" (2011) and 'The Getaway' (2016)... but they felt that Josh Klinghoffer was not the right guy for the band either, so he was fired by 2019.
In 2020, RHCP announced that they were working on new music w/ guitarist John Frusciante returning once again... Their latest album 'Unlimited love' was released in 2022.
This one is my absolute personal favorites. Can't stop moving !!!
CLASSIC BANGER
Fall of 1991, this song was everywhere. For me, this was my first exposure to this band. This video was just crazy and I loved it. I was 17 when this dropped.
Saw them last year & it’s AMAZING how great they still sound live!!!! Finally getting to see them after listening to them all throughout high school was AWESOME!! Definitely would recommend catching a show if they come to Oklahoma!!
This is my number 2 favorite of theirs - but I adore their cover of "Higher Ground". Awesome band. P.S. You might want to check out White Zombie's "More Human than Human"❣
Actually, you already have checked out More Human Than Human! As you were ❣
I’m amazed it took so long to get to this song. It was everywhere for years.
The concerts in the 90s with Red Hot Chili Peppers were totally off the chain. It was wild.
“Breaking The Girl” from that same album is amazing! Guitars are super melodic and feels should i say “whimsical” in a sort of way. Also they use steel in a junkyard for percussion. Its flippin amazing. You’ll both ❤ it…trust me!!!
The Butthole Surfers "Who Was In My Room Last Night" & "Pepper" 🔥❤️🔥 Trust Me!!
Have they done Butthole Surfers? Do they know what it means to be one? They should do them, I agree.
@@gmxkey No & No.
@@happymethehappyone8300 you are correct!
@@gmxkey It happens,, Not often,, But I happens. 🤪
I don't think they are ready for the Butthole Surfers, most people aren't, lol.
Next you have to react to the Weird Al parody Bedrock Anthem
Yabba dabba yabba dabba dabba doo now
They won't, they steadfastly refuse to react to Weird Al.
Yabba-dabba-yabba-dabba-dabba do now! 😂 Someone had to do it, might as well be me lol
Have they ever explained why they won't do Weird Al?
@@scottevans7314 he's just too white and nerdy? smells like nirvana? Is this connected to Amber's deep-seated aversion to polka?
One of the most innovative and groundbreaking videos ever made. RHCP always created the standard for music videos and of course, their unique blend of funk and rock.
My favorite from them is their cover of "Love Rollercoaster" from the Beavis and Butt Head movie. It's a vibe.
I love this band and I love this song! I really love this video!! Anthony Kiedis is the lead singer!! 💖💖
Hi guys, the next song willbe "by the way" You gotta love it❤️❤️✌️✌️
1992 music was pretty much all of the hit songs from this band's album "Blood, Sugar, Sex, Magik", Nirvana's album "Nevermind" and U2's album "Achtung Baby".
The song is basically about giving. Giving love. Don’t be greedy. Give it away.
My favorite chili peppers
Mine too!
I am HERE FOR IT!
The 90s come immediately back when I hear this song
Weird fact according to Anthony Kiedis autobiography"Scar Tissue", he used to be babysitted by Sonny and Cher.
John Frusciante all the way!
No R's to roll. He's rolling T's.
I love you guys' reactions. Reminding me of great songs and artists I've lost touch with, and occasionally introducing me to new tracks which go into my rotation. This one was a _banger_ and it was the first RHCP track I remember hearing.
On another note, hope you don't mind me saying, but when Amber smiles she just looks like the definition of happiness. 😊 You go, girl!
Listening to rock songs without knowing what they were about is what we all did through the 70s and 80 and 90s. If it rocks, you just jam with it.
Anthony Keatis dad was a cocain dealer. He taped $30 grand to Anthony when he was a kid and flew back to Cali
You picked a good one!
Taking me back! Great band and album! Love it! 🤎🤍👍😊
My favourite band. They speak to a place in my soul, no other band could ever come near.
I’d highly recommend the Zephyr video by RHCP, very psychedelic and funky, I think it’s their best song
I wish The Zephyr Song were longer.
For me it's between that or Can't Stop
One of their Best🔥🔥🔥
Power of Equality...first track off this album is Fire!!!!
I was in my last year of middle school, 91, when this song came out. I tried playing this song on tape in the car after school one day and my dad ejected the tape and just said "no". That was the end of that lol. At 46 I still love these guys ❤
90s group....The Presidents of The United States of America...
Songs....."Lump" or "Peaches" 🔥🔥🔥🤘🤘🤘
Can't go wrong with raw Chili Peppers in their element!
RHCP started in the 80's. One of my favorite songs by them is called Behind the Sun.with their original guitar player.
They have a strong appreciation for hip hop. Busta referenced this song in one of his verses, and Anthony (lead singer) and Flea (bassist) both appeared in the video for Wicked by Ice Cube, and that song is HARD AF.
I always loved ❤ this group and this video, Give it away, Give it away, Give it away now! WOW! What a song😅😅😅Peace ✌️ and Love ❤️ Your 70 year old forever hippie Gary😊 great reaction👍check out Red Hot Chili Peppers🌶 "Love Rollercoaster" from the movie "Bevis and Butthead do America"😅😅😅
This is my favorite Chili Peppers song. Give it away Now!!
As a former musician, DJ and promoter through the 90s, if I were to do a "back to the 90s" set, THIS is the song you start that set with!!!! It sets you up for what the 90s were!!! This song and "Under the Bridge" are their best songs, and both are from the same album, which is probably one of the best albums of all time! This song use to make people go crazy in pubs and clubs back in the day!
that was and still is such a funky beat and rhythm bass so creative with how they could compose some funky beats and grooves
If you want to get back to some KICK ASS Rock, Give Volbeat a try. They are a cross of Metalica, 5 Finger Death Punch, Seether, and ABBA. They will blow your mind. Heavy, Melodic, with unbelievable Drums, Guitars and Vocals! Start with LOLA MONTEZ and go from there. ENJOY!!!!!
This RHCP tune is the perfect blend of rock, punk, and rap. I don't listen to them every day..but on the days I do - so do my neighbors. Yeah, I got pretty good speakers over here.
Definitely a 90s vibe ❤ 🎵 "By the Way" is another good one!
Amber and Jay, you put a smile on MY face 😊 I loved seeing the pure joy this song brought to both of you!
Great song.
Yay! :) Dark Necessities needs to be next, it's a great song with one of the greatest bass hooks ever.
Agreed! I love that song.
Fight like a brave is one of their earliest punk/funk hits, while Fortune Faded is my all-time favorite song of theirs.
My peppers. So transforming. Went nuts for these west coast boys. So many of my friends that were getting into rap at this time loved "Give it Away". My absolute favorite from the Peppers. The bridge between Rap, Rock and eventually grunge. It's nice to see their youth again. Blood pumping. Thanks kids. Canadian Grandma Lori. C.
Have you done ' Mysterious Ways" by u2? also a banging song.
After that video first came out,
it was in HEAVY rotation on MTV. Maybe
once every hour? Especially on weekends.
It was on MTV's playlists for over
a year or so after it debuted.
It was directed by Stephane Sednaoui
who also directed their other video for
"Breaking The Girl".
It's worthy your watch.
Probably one of the most memorable moments ever was seeing them live at Rock Werchter in 1992. It had been raining for most of the day. When the peppers were playing people in the moshpit for some reason started throwing mud around. At first the peppers were a bit baffled by it and asked if we did not like it. It was made clear to them we did like them a lot. As a reaction Anthony said "If you love us throw more mudd at us". For the next few minutes the stage was not visible as literaly thousands of people started throwing mudd at the stage ... (I admit being one of them)
He also only wore a sock later on ....
'The Lost Boys went extra wild' 💯
Amber’s reaction at the pause for talk was brilliant 😁
