Hey everyone! It's Tattoo Talk Tuesday! Our weekly interactive Tattoo Q&A! This week I wanted to answer a popular question, which is, "What do you pack for your tattoo trips?" and I am happy to finally share my method! As someone who travels quite frequently for tattoos, I believe I have somewhat of a fool proof method for everyone out there who might be curious!

My grandma used to have a sound grenade. Recently when we emptied her Apartment after she passed away one of the guys helping us made fun of it. He did not realize how much of a moron he is to not understand the fear of an (elderly) woman being attacked. It's sad but that's the world we live in. So we have to be prepared and a sound grenade is a great way to be a little bit more safe.
So sorry to hear about your grandmother, I hope the sound grenade was given to someone who could benefit from it !

my mental health has been v low for many years and i recently was placed on medication to try to fix it it. honestly tho watching these videos and hearing you talk just make the nights so much easier and i feel so much less alone. thank you so much for making videos and providing a safe and kind place it's so great

I feel like this is helpful for not just tattoo appointments when your traveling but like the compartmentalization is good for like festivals or even like school I guess. I think it's a really good idea.
i feel like your kinda paranoid and super into safety but its nice to know I'm not the only one who freaks out about small stuff like that.
I work in a restaurant and some little kid pulled one of those sound grenades right beside me and let me tell you, they work really well!! haha
I love your idea with the small separate bags, very clever! I'm planning on taking a trip across America and this will be very helpful for my trip!
Thank you for this! Seriously, I would have never thought to do the whole compartmentalizing thing, but that's genius. I can't wait to start traveling for tattoos. I'm finally in a situation where I can start getting more serious about tattoo collecting and I couldn't be more happy. All my current tattoos are tiny, precious, and well hidden.

I also took a little bagpack with me because you inspired me to travel with a cute little backpack hehe :) Now I have the worse tattoo-hangover (for the first time...) :'') Anyway you're the best, the cutest and biggest inspiration! I live in Berlin and I get tattooed in Budapest which is two countries and almost a thousand kilometers away... so I definitely need to spend the night there :D I usually make it a weekend trip and I leave a full day just for tattooing. I like doing longer, 7-8 hour sessions because I like to make my trip worthwhile :D

Always good to know! Next time I'll fortunately will have a ride with my friend who will drive me to the netherlands for my next tattoo, so I don't have to worry too much about what to take with me, but next year I might need to travel alone to a faraway place so... yeah. I try to keep my tattoo money seperate too :D
A New York tip: Mcdonalds, Gap, Old Navy, and Banana Republic, and big stores/malls like JC Penny, Bloomingdales, Saks 5th Ave, all have public restrooms. Those are my go-to when i'm out and about in the city.

This is so helpful for me. I'm traveling for a tattoo soon. Going to Vancouver from Van Isl which is actually a ferry ride. I haven't decided if I'm going to stay the night or not because both ways is 6-8 hours of travel. I've done it in a day trips but it's not enjoyable and it's so expensive
this is a great video! I think this isn't just good for tattoo trips but for day trips in general. Just a question: That bigger bag you use for your clothing - is that a photo you took? How did you get it?
i love watching your show and love the advise and tips that work for you when getting a tattoo, im getting my next one tomorrow morning, cant wait. have you had anyone mention using coconut oil as a lotion after the 3 days, i usually use savlon but keen to try the oil as its purer and a antibacterial, what do you think. I live in Southern California, and normally get tattooed in Northern California! My aunt lives about five minutes from the shop I go to, so I normally spend the whole weekend up there, which involves my overnight stuff, and the things I need on the daily. But, when I'm getting tattooed, I also go with the soap I use, and whatever I'm liking to but on the day after/ a few days after! For going into the shop, I normally have my car with me, so I normally just bring in water, my phone & cash in a plain old envelope!
You can't use the washroom at the tattoo shop? There are no fast food places with bathrooms on your walk?
When you are getting tattooed it makes it much more comfortable to be really hydrated, you are losing fluids while they tattoo you and having water with you I find makes things much better, otherwise feel faint or dizzy, irritable.
I know!!! Hydrate and eat!!!!! YOU CAN FAINT. I have worked in various tattoo shops and have seen it countless times. Getting tattooed can take a lot out of you. Cheers. x
I've never seen a public bathroom in my city, I always just go into a mcdonalds/coffee shop/mall and use the toilet there
Living in the uk is really good because I can go to somewhere like London, get tattooed and be back in my bed I'm Sheffield the same evening. I'm planning on flying into the states hopefully
next year to get a tattoo from an artist in Georgia. I want to travel with just hand luggage and not take loads of clothes like I normally do, so this video has actually been super helpful especially like the tip of keeping everything in separate little bags.

I live in Chicago and there aren't any public bathrooms here either, however if you do into a big chain department store (target, Macy's ect.) you can use their bathrooms. that's what I do when I'm stuck downtown and I have to pee.
Usually when I get tattooed, it turns in to a day trip as I also travel for my tattoos c:

I usually travel 2-3 hours away from home to my tattoo artist so I usually pack what I need. Like money, umbrella, a snack, aquaphor, Chargers for my electronics...
Where do you get your socks from? I know this is kind of random, but you seem to have the best collection of socks ever.
I have a 2 hour drive to my tattoo place and there are public bathrooms! I take a couple of cans of diet coke, a bottle of full fay coke (for the blood sugar), a bottle of water and some peanut m&ms. Never needed the m&ms yet but you never know! Also sports bra, tank top, leggings and soft button up shirt. That covers most eventualities hopefully. My tattooist is quite chatty but also comfortable if I zone out so it's all good.
Hi! I'm not sure if this question has been answered before (if so-I'm sorry for the repetitiveness) but I was wondering if you could talk about how to schedule a tattoo appointment at a faraway location? Do you do it over the phone/email/visit for a consultation?
I love your videos, especially TTT. I do have a question and I apologize if it has been addressed before. I am new to getting tattooed. I got my first one as a shoulder cap and then added a seond part on. I am loving the idea of collecting tattoos and having my own original collection. That said, I'm wonderibg - how did you decide on placement of your different pieces? I feel like I would like a long term plan of doing a full sleeve but I don't know how much of that has to be planned right now. I know I eventually want them to fit together, but I want it to be a collection, not a merging. What are your thoughts on placement and planning in relation to long term plans? Should a person have an artistic goal in mind from the beginning?

I live north from Seattle and I'm getting tattooed at the tattoo expo in August! I'm getting a tattoo on my forearm on Saturday, and then Sunday I'm getting a piece on the back of my neck and lastly a small tattoo on my foot :'/ Me and my friend are staying in Seattle that weekend at her cousin's house. I'm so stoked but I'm definitely trying to mentally prepare myself! LOL I've gotten two tattoos the same day before, but these placements... eeeeep it's going to be sore. How many days off do you think would be appropriate to take off, post tattoos to heal? maybe 3?

I've not had to travel too far for a tattoo. I live pretty close to Manchester, and we have quite a few awesome artists in the city. It's takes around an hour if I take the bus and train, but usually I'll just take a bus that takes around 80 minutes. I don't usually need to take too much with me. Just the usual shit I have in my bag, and food.
Bananas are my go to fruit before a tattoo appointment. I usually take one, a packet of crisps, and a drink and have them on the way. Then I usually get there about 30 mins early so I'll go for a coffee at a cafe close by.
All this talk is making me want to get another tattoo, I just got one this past week.
I know forever21 has the reusable bags under 3$ and target has a few bags that are super similar the backpack that are all right at 30$. I'm definitely grabbing one for myself but could be a great replacement for yours Qcknd.
CHOCOLATE!!!!!! I love all the bags
The shop I normally get tattooed at has an ATM behind the building in a parking lot and a really good cafe across the street. I usually get the 1pm apt time and grab lunch across the street before my appointment. I usually get a cup of water to-go and take that to my appointment. The shop has a bathroom so I usually go while the artist is setting up so I don't have to stop him mid tattoo to pee. If it's a larger piece I'll take a pee break after the linework. The only things I take to the appoint with me are my keys and a tiny wallet with my ID and credit/debit cards. My shop accepts payment by card so I usually pay with my credit card and tip with cash. I don't like to bring a lot of stuff because the shop has small rooms.

I got my first tattoo a month ago. and even with making sure I went to a good shop and with a very good artist. the artist made some mistakes. they're small mistakes anyone would make but I was just wondering, how do I go about getting them corrected? and have you ever had to deal with mistakes in your tattoos?

This motivates me to be organized but i never need that many things with me.
Looooove the baggu bags! Since jan 1st this year shops in my country dont give out plastic bags anymore (you have you buy them separate), they made it a sort of law. Its to stimulate bringing your own reusable bags to help the envoirement, and i looove the baggu ones, they are so sturdy and durable! Never had one break on me and all my stuff stays dry :)
I've got to ask, what country do you live in? That sounds like a law the US really needs!

Does anyone have any tips regarding leg tattoos in winter? Oddly specific but I tend to get dry skin on my legs (I am prepping them with lotion so the skin is in good contion ready for the tattoo) but I am unsure what to wear as I tend to wear tights/ skinny jeans in the winter and feel they won't be brilliant over a healing tattoo.

amybabygrrl I'm glad this is the case for you. I'm sorry to have forgot to mention fleece lined leggings. As long as it's not too fluffy (I'd recommend putting them in the wash first if they're new), they can be a life saver.
Well there is nothing unlicensed bathrooms just not ones you'd want to use. I would say port authority which isn't far from the megabus stop

The public restroom situation in NYC is HORRENDOUS, but does your shop not have one or not allow you to use theirs? Even with the amount of work you're getting? o_O
I usually travel about three hours with train. If I'm going over the day I just bring my everyday bag with wallet, phone, headphones and stuff like that and I'll buy some snacks when I get there. I live in a pretty safe country so I feel okay just carrying around a shoulderbag or having my wallet in a pocket with zipper on my jacket or something.
Most of the time I go over a weekend and hang out with friends and stuff so then I bring a lot of shit, but just the necessities to the tattoo shop
