  • Hello! Welcome to a travel vlog in which me and my mum discover what to do in Belgium at Christmas. We travelled by eurostar to visit Bruges, Brussels and Ghent, explored the christmas markets, did a boat tour and walked our feet off exploring these wonderful Flemish cities. We also ate frites, moules, waffles and chocolate, but let me know if we missed anything!

Looks like you had fruit syrup(?) and vanilla ice cream (?) on your waffle. Over here (in the US), waffles are usually served as a breakfast alternative to pancakes, with butter and maple syrup. The chocolate looked delicious. Not sure what you classify as nougat?
I saw lots of bricks in streets and buildings. There must be brick-works everywhere. The cities you stopped in don't look like ANYplace I've seen in the states.
I didn't realize that Belgium was the land of the potato, but that would be OK with me. I never tire of them in any form.
    Thanks for sharing.
I drank a lot of Belgian beer the one time I was in Toronto. This "monk" beer was some of the most flavorful I've ever tasted.
    Cheers.

Welcome to Belgium and the Netherlands, it is like living inside a cloud sometimes. Also, my brother used to live in the center of Brugge, and the townhall gave them cute plants for free to put on the window if they wanted, to make the atmosphere even more cozy. And fries are the national food of belgium, so it makes sense that you ate a lot of them XD

Nice to see some familiar sites; I live about 33 min. drive (41 km) from Gent and 51 min. (57 km) from Brugge. I live a little North of both cities, just across the Dutch border; so I am a regular to both. Well, my mum is Belgian. And you were right that Brugge is more touristy town (and rightfully so) and Gent is more of a regular city with a historic city centre.
A ‘begijn’ (from Begijnhof in Brugge) or beguine in English, I feel I could best describe as a type of nun, only they don’t take religious vows, followed an austere life. So the rules they live by are les strict, but they dress similarly to nuns.
And I believe I know exactly where you got the ‘neuskes’. The best ones are the ones that are gooey on the inside, although the particular traditional flavour is not my favourite either.
Glad that you enjoyed your stay.

Thank you for the information, that's very cool! Apologies for my awful pronunciation

@@RoisinsReading No, not at all! Your pronunciation is fine. It’s a shame the beguines living there have gradually died out in recent years.
