About this project: I am writing a weekly sci-fi story to the theme of Isaac Arthur’s SFIA videos. It’s a crazy challenging timeframe to create a good short story in, and to do so publicly is even more daunting. I’m just hoping some good stories come out of this, I have fun writing them, and most importantly, the audience enjoys!
Thanks for stopping by!

Loved it I i envy the people who have not discovered the Misfits yet, they will have the joy of listening to at least 23 straight episodes. looking forward or perhaps backward to the next one!
Thanks, MrIzzy! I hope they do discover them 🙏 It's a fun ride 🚀
i couldn't agree with You any more strongly, energetically; exuberantly!!! Before this episode i was bemoaning the fact that i couldn't listen to the whole story from beginning to end. The moment i thought about the end, the very word stretched and faded in my mind into infinity! i don't ever want the story to end, but i ALWAYS want the next episode NOW! Rowe is the best author i've found in the 21st century• !:-)
Stalingrad is surrounded by bones, lots of bones.
Me too! I’m a 48 yo father of 3 and I love this kids stories what is after dark charros I’m listening to it now?

Just an awesome story - as usual. And another great start to an otherwise boring Thursday.
Thanks, Ron! Glad you enjoyed it 😃
Literally makes my day to see these posted! 🎉🎉🎉😊
Truth, me too😅
Thanks, Keith! Happy to hear it 😃
Cheers, Louis!
Just finished. Very suspenseful Rowe. To quote our beloved André Roussimoff, “I hope we win”.
But I am starting to wonder what the group has a fight with. I will stay tuned.
Thanks, Pharming, I hope so too 😃
I love time travel and I love seeing how at least one colony was formed. I guess they skipped at least a generation in their history to cover up the short givings of its incompetent former leader.
Oh, you're in for a fun couple months 😃 (searches for time travel emoji) 😖
🚀🚀🚀😃
cant wait for part 2
Cheers, Ironsides! Much to resolve 😮
Cliffhanger! On another note, I recently took a car trip with grade school grandkids. We listened to Top Sushi, Cupcakes and Culicidae. They loved them! (I'm recruiting another generation of listeners for you.)
As an elementary teacher, this is great! Young people love read alouds.❤️
Wow, thanks, Gramma! That sounds like an amazing road trip 😃 I'm glad to hear the kids enjoyed them. Fun stories.
Gawd days!
That's one he'll of a cliff hunger!
Well played!
Thanks, B! I guess I better keep writing 😂
This universe that you've built through your stories is amazing. The way you're filling in the hodtory, the complexity and thought provoking underlying themes, the amazing characters that you grow-- it's too much. I'd expect an entire creative team to be working on this and yet you somehow produce a new episode nearly every week. How is this possible?
This doesn't even teke into accourt the fact that you narrate each story as well, and the narration, just like the writing is as good as or better than anything I've ever heard. The way you can do all of their voices is unbelievable. I instantly know who's speaking. I love Hale's laconic drawl and Transom's rekentless snarkiness. So much talent. The Roweverse needs to be a thing, with movies or at least a series -- the closest i can think of is The Expanse, which was also adopted from some very good books. Amazon needs to call you. It's going to happen! (Fingers crossed, but its a natural fit).
Thanks, Captain! I'm not sure there's a single reason I'm so driven to write and share the stories at this pace. I'm grateful, though, for that drive, because I enjoy each new chapter and the process that goes into creating them. I also have faith that if I keep doing what I'm passionate about and putting it out there, eventually the stories will open the right doors: as you say, fingers crossed!
So grateful you're here enjoying the work I put in each week 🙏😃
Clever. Can’t wait for the reveal.
Thanks, Alistair!
A good story. I like the way you incorporate current trends - in this case, the rewriting of history.
Thanks, Susan! I suspect that's a trend that is always current.
Looking forward to part II!
Cheers, LaVera!
I listen to the story everynight going to sleep. Kind of rolls over me.
Uh-oh, part II coming soon ... but tomorrow is Some Other Place, not Charris.
Over an hour?! Hot dog. Love ya Rowe!
These Misfits just don't know how to keep it simple 😂 My Wednesdays would be much easier if they didn't get into so much mischief! Cheers, Crayfish 🙏
Thanks Rowe!
Cheers, Pharming 😃
I follow any stories I find that you made. I enjoy them all 😊.
Thanks, Richard! I appreciate it 😃
The plate of Death Pasta ....
(chortle snort guffaw)
⚡🙏
Cheers, David! 😂🍝
I love your stories so much. I hope others find it and you are able to continue your masterful stories.
Thanks, Nicki!
Been waiting for this one matey. ✌️
Cheers, Eedjit! 🚀🚀🚀
The warp & weave of the stories is very engrossing. It must be quite a handful to keep all the threads together. Great episode. Looking forward to the next.
Cheers, Painter! All kinds of crazy things floating around up there 😵💫🤯😃
Been looking forward to this!
Thanks, JoBeth! I hope you enjoy it 😃
Temporal shenanigans mess with my neurons causing synaptic anomalies as a sideline in an already disturbed mind.
This one will need another listen where I can give it 100% listening power.
Did you know that listening is a superpower as well as speech and the power of the word written or spoken.
Preaching to the choir here as I'm sure.
The typeset is mightier than the sword!
Doesn't quite cut it but I'm sure you catch my drift.
~~~~❤~~~~
Had second listen.
Great stuff and I'm on tenter hooks for subsequent parts.
Cheers, CPD! Agreed, Linguistics is one of my favorite areas of study, even to the point that the nuances of hearing from a cognitive standpoint is a miracle to me. The ability to distinguish such nuance from the air around us with those tiny little membranes and hairs? Blows my mind!
Superb episode, thank you.
Thanks, Max!
@RoweLit no worries dude, I'm here for a long time not a good time. No, wait..
Bravo!
Cheers, KennyJoe! 😃
Got me hooked again... Full of interesting ideas. Thanks for all the work.
Cheers, Blackbird! Glad you're enjoying!
G'day to you again my Friend! I like it, clever with the juggling of what is and what is to be, once more Well done, waiting as always for the next Adventure! Perth West Aust.
Cheers, Paul! Working on the next adventure right now 🤠
Kristoff and Olivia are the key voices in Part 1
IMHO.
Most believable.
Echos of "Lost on Port Cullen."
Awesome, loved it.
Cheers, David!
Really enjoyed this, thank you
Cheers, Karen! Glad to hear it 😃
These bots have more character then most people in most books, this story felt like an Assimov with more character development and I can't wait to see what happens next!
Thanks, Farshadow! We shall find out soon I think 🤔
@23:00
"Baseline questions he needed answered ..."
A grammatical structure popular in central and south Ohio: my car needs washed.
Thanks!
Thanks for the support, Robert! 😃🙏
Too good.
🤩
Cheers, Bob!
The suspense is intense. How long till part two? OMG...
Thank you, P.
Thanks, Karl! Depends on what kind of mess the others get into 🤔
Glad for all the intelligent kids❤️ and knowing there was no danger to them.
Not sure what all the fuss was about with Mycom.
@31:00 Olivia is surprised that Kristoff does not know the deal with Mycom. Yet Kristoff lets the comment pass as if it were not important.
Man, I have wondered for a long time why The Battery was called The Battery.
Cheers, Tyotypic! There's always a reason 😉
@1:10:50 errata (erratum)
The speaker is Clem Abali, not Kristoff.
Upon meeting the Harold. Oops.
In this case the speaker is Kristoff, who was watching the feed from back on the planet. Could be more explicit.
ROWE, as always this is amazing, any chance we get a recap episode of the series?
Although I'll happily listen to it all again.
Thanks, Maurice! That's a great idea. I'll definitely consider putting something like that together! Time is always a factor, but that may be worth the time to do.
Misfits are a good fit. Sorry, I have i insightful to add. Just an offering to the almighty algorithm.
Much appreciated, AB! 😃
More! More! More!
Twist my arm, Lisa 😃
excellent PEl love the misfits
Glad to hear it, M! Thanks!
darned cliffhanger!
Cheers, BB!
Excellent play Aballi!! I’m still puzzling over Maicon. I don’t think he’s malicious, but has his own agenda and yet seems isolated from the other primes in this Artefact emulation. Is Maicon the very first of the primes, or the youngest? I may have to go back through the story to get my thinking back on track 😆
He is an enigma ... 🤔😃
Thank you INFLUENCER PANEL for your very strong support of my AudioBooks Channel, they are on All Networks face, TH-cam.
The children's external port with two doors seems strangely designed. It is not a sally-port.
Both doors must be open at the same time.
At 54:00 it's called an air lock but it clearly is not that. The atmospheric pressure outside the structure must be the same as the pressure inside.
And breathable.
Just finishing up part 2, Martin! Sometimes the details are too detailed to include, if that makes sense. The floor of the habitat is sitting on the ground and the hole is a depression beneath where the airlock is. Thus, there is little airflow into that small hole. When the airlock opens, the air inside and in the hole mix, equalizing. Charris's atmosphere is close but not breathable. Air quality would be bad but not knock anyone out once the two mixed.
@@RoweLit waiting!!!!!!
🤪☮️
That hatch to the outside is so dangerous. It's a criminal blunder that the adults (who certainly knew about it since they put it there) allowed to leave unsecured to endanger kids.
Not sure why the story needed this child killing "refrigerator".
A nine foot hole is bad enough.
Mistakes were made.
@@RoweLitlol
Most important, he knew the planet.
(huh?)
See "Empty Fields." Kristoff's homeworld was Charris before emigrating to Texini.
@@RoweLit Empty Fields took place after the age of expansion. After Floristan.
How relevant would knowledge of Charris from that time be to First Landing on Charris?
Say the time machine was to go back to the time of Giovanni Verizanno along the US coastline. How helpful would it be to have lived in Yonkers? Would you know about the danger of malaria?
"Now" would be after "Telescope," the age of colonization..
The Eye of Charris
P.E. screaming for my latest Misfits fix but alas I couldn't get into. I've been ill with flu for 5 weeks now so it's probably me. It's taken me SEVEN attempts to get to the end, mostly falling asleep 😂. Maybe it's because it's pt1 and therefore incomplete. I just didn't get it 😢. The irony would be if it was written by AI 😂😂😂😂. KEEP 'EM COMING ❤
Sorry to hear it, Peter. Feel better. I think Part I will make a little more sense after Part II. 😃
@@RoweLit thank you
@1:03:30
None of the children in that corridor had fallen ill.
But one child was in the hospital, very sick, to provide the body for Kristoff to inhabit.
Not in the hospital till he had a seizure when Kristoff possessed him, Martin.
@@RoweLit when Kristoff showed up the body was sick and thought to be dying by his pals.
Not a complex statement.
See @23:50
"They said you were dying".
@@MartinGugino I think you're reading your interpretation into the text here. "They said you were dying." can be read (because of the seizure). The Alba also specifically refers to all three as "seizure patients" in the initial encounter, not "the patients who had seizures" a distinction with a difference. I suppose there could be a sentence that locks it down firmly that they were perfectly healthy and then had seizures, but it's also kinda implied by the sentence that describes them all as being in three different places in the complex when they all simultaneously have seizures.
@@RoweLitoh!
Pondering.
Ah yes. Never sick.
The ancient ones are so self centered, caring nothing for the lives of the darling orphans.
They don't believe even that the NOW is the zipper that selects among the possible futures to stitch together the one coherent past.
And Chemabali has a superiority complex to boot, quite undeserved, if Verona is the bio-chem expert the moment she arrives.
The contrast in concern for 20 year old bones and official lack of concern for living orphans is jarring.
Why didn't Sosh and Richiy join the team going back and why was not Maicom extensively debriefed?
Not that it has to make sense outside of the story world
And Olivia was an unused asset.
Sosh and Rishi have their missions ...
TEASE
@29:30
A clever verb the first five times I heard it, but by now all the life has been wrung out of it. Speed bump. IMHO
Of the ~11,500 words in this story, exactly 3 of them are "tease," according to MS Word. You could make an argument that's too many, but it's also asking a lot of a single human to flag that on a proofread, Martin. I'll certainly be mindful of it now, though.
@@RoweLitI don't fault you at all for anything.
(I only heard one)
I meant five in my lifetime.
"Get" may work as well.
No worries, Martin! I put my work on the internet, so it's fair game 😃 And honestly, to have my work engaged with at any level is a blessing. The way you engage with it keeps me on my toes, and I'm grateful for that 🙏
Tease applies only where the evidence is somewhat ambiguous and the analysis is clever.
Also where there is no obvious way to get more information as with for example by asking.
Must thank you again for this comment thread, Martin! I caught Julian trying to sneak it into the story this week during editing. I had to take it out!
The Three were told "just get information".
They did not listen.
They called an audible?? to ingratiate themselves with Maicon? Maicon already had Harold....
I'm confused.
The colony was not going to be lost.
Part II is coming, Martin! 😀
Thank You 🙏 ❤Another nice story ❤ Though this one was somehow more hard to listen 😅maybe was just tired when listened first time and had to relisten :)
Me too. Had to listen a few times cause of the double names and the names of the AI.
Things just shot by.
Thanks, Saulius! Appreciate the feedback 🙏
Thanks, Martin! That's super useful feedback as well 🙏
Reading along with the subtitles probably would have helped.
Keeping straight (Clem) Abali and (Edis) Ali.
Do I have those right?
@@MartinGugino Thanks, Martin! Yes, Clem Aballi, Eddis Ali. I do upload the subtitles myself, so it's better than AI generated, especially with names and sci-fi terms, as it's the actual story text.
If I may offer a suggestion. Your stories have the same characters which are deep and wonderful BUT new listers will no know how cool they are which is critical to the current stories. I would suggest you give some character backstory in each episode to help the new listener.
Thanks, Ed. That balance is always a consideration in these episodes. My guess is that there's probably more in each episode than you realize, because I do try to slip in those recapping elements as subtly as possible, but it never hurts to have a reminder 🙏
Thank you *I owe you a lot, since my AudioBooks Channel on TH-cam is Growing in Views and Subscribers. Thanks to INFLUENCER PANEL.
Clem 0bali is a brat
Mark CEN CA. Just cking on you are you doing alright for real PE
All good, Mark, thanks! Just a tough streak with the voice for a few days in a row. Giving it a rest.
@@RoweLit Mark CEN CA I'm praying for you friend
Stellar Song leaving Charris seems like a foolish choice.
Thanks!
