About this project: I am writing a weekly sci-fi story to the theme of Isaac Arthur’s SFIA videos. It’s a crazy challenging timeframe to create a good short story in, and to do so publicly is even more daunting. I’m just hoping some good stories come out of this, I have fun writing them, and most importantly, the audience enjoys!

"Foundations" certainly triggers Asimov thoughts and i see some similarities with Rowe. Just free wheeling. Asimov was a prime mover in robotic "AI" like characters and there is a lot of that in the Misfits and assorted Rowe stories. Asimov created a huge galactic struggle for many of his stories as does Rowe. Asimov's universe was all human or (AI ish) robots., and there are no fundamentally biologically different species involved in Rowe's Misfit Universe either. .
And tangentially related to Rowe and his intelligent use of AI in his stories , Asimov had a move toward the dark ages of sorts. As knowledge of atomics were being lost in most parts of the galaxy. this was just vaguely explained (as i recall) . I do think it could happen to us in the future though as AI out thinks us, and thinks for us. We could come to a point where increasingly fewer people understand how things even came about. Even now it is sometimes said AI is a black box in itself and we don't fully understand how it works. Will we look at AI the future , that will probably be created by AI itself, and be utterly baffled as to how its works and/or how its accomplishments were achieved? Could we then lose our knowledge about the new scientific and technical achievements ? If we will have even ever humanly gained the knowledge ?

The only down side is he has set the bar so high we expect excellence with every tale.

I'd place him as more of a Heinlein, since the plots tend to turn on social dynamics rather than technical.
@@justfellover - I wrote this as a somewhat whimsical homage to Issac’s “Foundation” series trilogy: Foundation (1951); Foundation and Empire (1952); and Second Foundation
P gets a lot of science correct and extrapolates future well. I would love to talk to him about time dilation at light speed sometime. Every time I think I understand it another level appears and I know nothing again.. ie. the twin paradox: paradox… 🙄🎶🎵
@@michaelgarrow3239 I'm flexible on the science, so long as it's internally consistent and doesn't seriously challenge suspension of disbelief, benchmarks Rowe easily surpasses. I suppose one thing I find most exemplary is how he portrays the passions of individual scientists. This is a face of humanity sci-fi too often fails to adequately illuminate.

@@michaelgarrow3239 'Suspension of disbelief' is itself a double negative. It is required magic for our fragile egos to digest any fiction at all, and also a hazardous gesture of trust in the author. When suspension of disbelief becomes challenged, that's a negative, sure as (-1)^3 = -1

Great story as always, made me thing of Christopher Lee. An old spy that was just as sharp till the day he died. Some of it hit close to home as the misfits usually do. The mere thoughts of a veteran can terrify a civilian lol.

Nice work. Tying together some of the early suspicious patterns is great. Not torture-murdering the general was good choice. Keeping Carolina closer to base line human in over her head is a good choice.

Great narration. Incoherent story. If it's a section from a larger story I'm probably missing most of the information which would make it understandable, but that doesn't make it a better story on its own.

Because you create an link together all your stories, I feel like I should feel like Carolina does at the end, when she realises. Is there a story that sets up the significance of Iophos that I've missed the significance of, or are you setting us up for a future story?
Cheers, Tyotypic. You're definitely not wrong that there is more here. I don't specifically have a single "Iophos" story yet, though we have been there before briefly over the course of the catalogue. There's more to come, though, as well as more bubbling under Carolina's skin than she let on here.

Rowe’s stories have a contrast to the amount of f words in other entertainment nowadays. It is nice to be able to have it play in your pocket without risking offending a passerby.
