I think 21 century breakdown is musically and lyrically the most complex record they’ve made to date. It’s an absolute masterpiece. I didn’t know at the time where they were gonna go after American Idiot because they set the bar so high. I think it’s safe to say 21st century breakdown checked off all of the boxes and then some. To come out with two absolutely incredible concept albums back to back like that is not easy and they nailed it. Definitely one of their best records in my opinion.

It isn't really at all, and the majority of it is just annoying arena rock

Makes me sad he seems to resent the hard work that went into it. It was worth it. It resulted in an incredible album!

Completely agree. Even though it was still a popular album, I think it's also their most criminally underrated one. They put so much work into it and it really shows and I don't think it got the level of success that it really deserved.
It's my favourite green day album, followed very closely by American Idiot.
I really wish they'd play more deep cuts from this album live, hell, I'd settle for anything that isn't just Know Your Enemy at this point.

Sometimes pain and struggle create light but not always fun to revisit that pain

Same. I remember literally waiting for that album as if I was making the line at a store in Black Friday. I have never anticipated an album release that much and fell in love with it immediately at the same time. I remember spending days learning the songs on guitar and even learning how to play Last Night on Earth in piano although I don't know how to play it, lol...such good memories.

This is my favorite album of all time. As a child in 2007 my childhood friend made me listening to Green Day and I loved that. I was so inspired I wanted to create a band like them. So in 2008 when I saw that they were recording a new album I was so happy and when I listened to the demos, I was so in love with the sound and the music, I was just yet at the beginning of my teenage. I can’t describe what the feeling I have when I’m listening to this masterpiece.. it changed my life as the musician I am today, even if I turned more into grunge now..

I'm a huge Butch Vig fan, my favourite producer, and him and the band did a fantastic job with the tones and the overall sound. 21st century breakdown is an fantastic album.

I wish they would make an rock opera/concept album again. American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown are miles above their other albums. Revolution Radio had it's moment, but still nowhere near the aforementioned albums.

@mikedavis8008 I don't think 1972 is going to be a concept album (Official title is Saviors), but it's got the same production quality as American Idiot and 21st Century Breakdown so far.
Definitely has potential to be one of the best albums the band has ever done.

The trilogy while notconcept albums really does hold above a lot of their albums. They outdid themselves for sure on the trilogy just with the experimenting and how much material there was and how good it is.

You wouldn't know it's one of his favorite albums, since the only song before the Hella Mega Tour the only song guaranteed at every show from that album is Know Your Enemy. Hopefully they will continue to play 21 Guns and other songs through the next tour, though it's hard to see that happening since it's in support of the new album Saviors, and the anniversary of both Dookie and American Idiot as well. Add on top of that it seems it will be Hella Mega 2.0 in the sense that they are co-headlining so will probably not get enough time to play both old albums in full as you may expect for those anniversary tours, as well as staples from other older albums and the new one. I don't know why they didn't just go the Revolution Radio Tour route and just tour on their own with one or two openers per show, even if that meant going back to Amphitheaters in many cities. I'm sure they could do some arena's and stadiums on their own as well like they did then too.

I feel like this record took a profound toll on Billie Joe and is probably the biggest contributing factor to his eventual collapse in 2012. Very sad that he suffered so much for this beautiful piece of art. A landmark rock album of the 21st century.

I was so hyped for this album as a fresh Green Day fan and it was an incredible time to be one. What an awesome record it ended up being too.
