    was awesome to see Trigan here.. Can't wait to hear more when other volumes are out! :) have to watch your top5 of this video later on since I haven't managed to read the ocean/orbiter yet :D

      +WaveOne11 yes, maybe it's better to do so, even though I believe(!) I didn't do any spoilers in terms of ocean/orbiter, but maybe I've shown some pages that could spoil, anyhow it would be great to hear your opinion about that Ellis book.
      The German translations of Trigan come out now on a regular basis, every four months or so from a pretty reliable publisher. I've already #2 and it already improved in terms of reproduction quality (but I was quite nit-picky anyway).

    Another amazing stack of books Mr Grey! That Lone Sloane is high on my list as well. Love these best of videos, always a nice chunk of things I have no idea about which is ALWAYS very exciting for me!

      +comicKkrakK same here... since I'm reading Nemesis (because of you) and loving it: I just can underline the similarity between Nemesis and Druillet ... even though I am soo pumped (right word?) about Nemesis right now I wouldn't be able to decide which one I like more, and this is saying a lot. "Be pure, be vigilant, behave" (I've pondered about writing this above the entry of my nerdcave... but unfortunately the german translation wouldn't sound half as cool.)

      Love that saying as well. I'm glad we can supply each other here with our own brands of drugs! I have seen a small amount of Druillet in some Heavy Metals I have, might be worth another look, interesting thought on the similarities. Really glad Nemesis is working for you, it's such a great read and was such a huge surprise for me as well

    I have all the English books except The Oven which I thought I ordered when I bought UR from your Adhouse video.
    Warren Ellis is probably the best sci-fi comics writer out there. Even his bad stuff is pretty good.

      +forgerelli1 I guess the only other comic from Ellis that I've read is Transmetropolitan, which is exceptional of course & Ocean/the orbiter can't be compared with that - but it contains two very well constructed and told scifi-stories nevertheless.

    I hope that they release english Segments. I like Gimenez works so far I got Metabarons, Fourth Power and Leo Roa. I am browsing his works on bdteque and I must admit I am tempted to buy french editions even though I don't know french.

    "Rome into the future"-some of us here in the U.S. call that Washington D.C.
    The one thing that I definitely like about the Baum book is that he hand letters.I can't stand digital lettering in comics it contrasts the drawings under it like a math lesson being taught in front of an Otto Dix painting.
    realism-I'm guessing that you're more of a Kim Stanley Martian than an Edgar Rice Burroughs Martian.
    No Prison Pit this year.Ryan must be dragging his ass.
    Nice video.
    Picking up Lone Sloane this week,even with the dumb star pages between the stories.

      +azimovist I hear you about the lettering. What I like even more about Baum is the quite unique way he draws/paints with feltpens/markers. As to Kim Stanley Robinson: I had to look him up, because I've never heard of his mars-trilogy, but you're right, that sounds like reading material! You won the very official e.g.-comment-of-the-day-award btw: You're allowed to paint an used teabag with golden color and to put it on your shelf. For comments like yours I'll do my videos, thanks.

      I love an esoteric award! I'm breaking out the Russian Caravan and the oxide acrylics as we type!

    Beautiful books.
    This morning I woke up and read Lone Sloane Volume I. I'd parts of it in Heavy Metal magazine, but now it makes much more sense. And it is even more impressive now than it was when I was kid.
    Dorfler is another book I'll have to await translation.
    I may not be able to wait for a translation of Nach Paris. Hollow Grounds by Schuiten is a beautiful collection. I also discovered his work in the pages of Heavy Metal Magazine.
    I'm considering buying the singles of Kabuki. I enjoyed Mack's brief Daredevil run from the early 2000's. I didn't know he had done something as ambitious as Kabuki.
    Segmente by Gimenez reminds me his work on the Metabarons. Wonderful artist.

      +Gore Vidal "Dörfler" is an English book... Baum just used the German title, because... of reasons. It's from Fantagraphics. As to Kabuki: If you take into consideration, that Mack's drawings often feel more like illustrations than actual comic panels (which means they look beautiful, but aren't always important for the plot), that his story is treading water again and again... it's absolutely recommended just for the art alone (but I would prefer these books over singles any time, but that's another question)

      My mistake regarding Dorfler. On ebay a seller has 51 issues for sale, which he said is most of the collection. I'm considering getting them. I like singles, when I can get them cheap.

    • @earlgrey862
      @earlgrey862  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gore Vidal Yes, the price can sometimes be a good reason for issues. I bought recently the three issues of "Kid Eternity" from Morrison and Fegredo for about four Euro altogether and that's quite a bargain in comparison to the twenty plus you have to shell out for the hardbound trade. One thing I've forgotten about Kabuki, but that ends my list of negativity, Mack uses some pictures again and again in some sort of copy and paste with some minor editing... especially in the first issues - you see, I've not exaggerated when I said in the vid, that I am on the fence with Kabuki... I am quite curious about your opinion. What's the price for the 51 issues btw?

    • @GoreVidalComicbooks
      @GoreVidalComicbooks 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      The price is 29.99 plus 10.99 shipping. Best offers will be considered. What do you advice?

    • @earlgrey862
      @earlgrey862  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Gore Vidal Seems a fair price, I suppose each issue has 20 pages of content, so it adds up to ca. 1020 pages. In comparison one of those dark horse hardcovers (which I still would prefer nevertheless) has over 400 oversized pages for the real low price of around 30 dollars, I believe.

    Was quite disappointed by The Oven, didn't do nothing for me. Sadly, this goes for a lot of releases by Adhouse. Always nicely designed and interesting in theory, but they fall flat on impact/relevance and/or story. Great to find about about Dörfler, though. And will probably will give Trigan a try, reminds me of childhood days reading old issues of Kobra Magazin ;)

    • @earlgrey862
      @earlgrey862  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I think Adhouse has the knack for nice little books that are fun to read if you don't expect too much of them. Eric Haven's "Ur" falls in that category and is a small jewel imo. Kobra sounds familiar, I got my Trigan fix back in the day when they've offered them in packages in the massa supermarket :)
