    I still have my edition of "the 6 travels from Lone Sloane", first French print from 1974, offered to me by some of my parents friends for my 6th birthday.
    At this time I also remember having a Druillet poster above my bed, an electric knight on its robot horse.

    Hey, I love your honesty! Well done for admitting some of the text in Druillet's stories is a bit overblown...so refreshing to hear someone in a TH-cam video not gushing ridiculously about a book! I find this quite a lot in some of the American reviews, especially if they're waxing lyrical about a new Ultimate or Omnibus oversized hardback edition. It sometimes seems like they feel obligated to fawn over these massive tomes, probably because they've just shelled out over a hundred bucks on it!
    Anyway, I'm really enjoying your reviews and your humour - very dry!

      thanks... even though I don't know if it's maybe just my German boorishness (if this is the right word). When a German says: "interesting" its almost the highest praise he can sing :)

    • @Aki-or9gi
      @Aki-or9gi 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@earlgrey862 Boorishness may be a bit of a strong word to use. I don't think your delivery is either coarse nor bad mannered. You give an honest viewpoint of your comics, whether you think they're good or bad, so the viewer can either go with what you say or completely dismiss it. Personally, I spend about half the time Googling the comics you discuss, to find out even more about them!

    *raises hand* Druillet fan reporting for duty, Earl! As a young adult and discovering Heavy Metal and Druillet for the first time, I not only thought the art was unique, but was convinced 'Lone Sloane' , Salammbo' and 'Delirius' were some of the most cool and evocative names ever. Thanks for sharing your Druillet books. Looking forward to more videos!

      jonanjello it seems we have some things in common :)haven't thought about the titles too much but you're right: they're adding something to the over all atmosphere.

    Thanks the great video! I always thought Druillet could draw a nightmare just as good as Giger.

    • @49558201
      @49558201 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Why does Giger do Heroin ??? Because " my nightmares scare me...." or he read , Lone Sloane before bed time ?!!

    Thanks a lot. Yes, as you have mentioned ,the 70s and 80s books from Druillet are far superior. However, those Titan books are for us born after the analogic print times. Because Dragon's Dream and Dargaud originals are very expensive for us living in latinamerican countries. Trivia fact: A Lone Sloane drawing is -was- the cover for an Igor Wakhevitch masterpiece album.

    • @earlgrey862
      @earlgrey862  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      ... Druillet is always a good choice for some cover illustration be it for a prose novel or some music album.

    Druillet is being published for the first time in Brazil in a hugely thick all-in-one issue of Lone Sloane and your video convinced me to purchase this pearl. This is so beautiful my eyes cryied cum. Very thanks!

      @earlgrey862  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      interesting combination of body fluid action :) ... but reading Druillet feels a bit like that for sure.
      and thinking about it: maybe some similar stuff happened to the eyes of Sloane ... a possible reason for their red color.

    Druillet is one of the greatests BD artists of all time. Unfortunately, his work is quite underrated. Although his influence probably goes deeper than one would suspect. I think, for example, the makers of Star Wars were most likely familiar with his work. Maybe this video is interesting for you: th-cam.com/video/dK8B10_oY5g/w-d-xo.html Some resemblances in the video (including work by Druillet) are quite striking.

    science fantasy.....I agree on the beauty of the arts is amazing even if the story is not so great. That full page at the 9:50 mark is stunning in details.

      +eta nick yeah, that's a nice panel. As to the story: I am actually not sure if the stories aren't so great... even if I said so in the video... they're just generally very dark, refusing any lasting relief or solace, so if one's able to embrace nihilistic scifi, this is his stuff - Jean Paul Sartre would have enjoyed it :)
