    What makes the strokes great is that they kept their original sound while still adjusting to the new instrumentals and sounds coming out

    • @shadetheband
      @shadetheband 2 ปีที่แล้ว +57

      I love songs from all the phases of the strokes, and I think the main commonality and thing that holds the phases together is Julians vocals and melody writing. It’s hard for me to agree they kept their “original sound” when you compare this album to the earlier classics. To me overall it’s a different feel. I prefer this newer “vibey” sound over the more grungy garage rock sound of old, that being said I still love the old feel when I’m in the mood for it. I guess it just depends how you define what a bands “sound” is.

    • @shadetheband
      @shadetheband 2 ปีที่แล้ว +21

      There is truth in what you’re saying as I think about it more. They adapted and changed without losing themselves or the elements that hooked people in the beginning. They certainly didn’t “sell out” or go formulaic. So in that sense you’re right. And I wonder if I’m looking at it too micro, and when you look at the big picture they have always had “their sound” and nothing else sounds quite like The Strokes. I guess what I want to know is if you look at their character arc and compare it with other bands natural progressions, would it be fair to say they completely changed their sound, or that they kept their original sound. At the end of the day, it’s good music and I love where their arc has taken them and can’t say the same about all the bands I’ve followed throughout my life.

      @@cactaceous well i wouldn't say they blatantly copied them, but definitely took inspiration from the strokes and interpol...
      I mean, in the early 2000's there was a little explosion of garage rock, and the killers were definitely a part of it...
      But imo they're not nearly as successful as the other two... Sure they had Mr. Brightside and a couple of other hits, but the rest of their discography is not as good as interpol and the strokes.
