Nope! well sortof, Matt did not record drums on more than half of the songs of TBHC were recorded by Loren Humphrey who actively wrote drum parts, while Matt did synths.
Fun fact: this record was produced by Josh Homme, Queens of the Stone Age's frontman. I AM HOPING FOR YOU TWO TO REACT TO SONGS FOR THE DEAF AND LIKE CLOCKWORK. Great video!!!
Nicholson stated recently in an interview he holds no ill will towards the band. But he was kicked off after a two week break while with family. He also was in the process of recording Favourite Worst Nightmare so a majority of that albums bass parts were written by him.
@hotstankygarbage788 Andy didn't write the majority of the first album bass lines in that same podcast he said that Alex came to rehearsal with the parts written which explains why TBHC bass lines are so potent. Andy didn't write Favourite worst nightmares bass lines he was already gone when they continued the North America tour they started recording the second album after the tour the last bass lines he played are despair in the departure lounge
@jojoproductions2610 He said he recorded Flourescent, Brianstorm, Do Me A Favour and This House Is A Circus, Balaclava too if I'm not mistaken. Feel bad fo him the way they kicked him out. Glad he's found peace
If that was a euphemism, then I wouldn’t be saying that my propeller wouldn’t spin- ‘cos you wouldn’t wanna go shouting that out, would you? -Alex Turner
When they were touring this album, they would finish the encore on Secret Door and play it out for ages, with a big confetti drop in sync with the drums coming back in at the end, it was magical!
Came to comment this! Both of them rocking it out chatting about Greggs 😂 Can’t wait for Connor describing a sausage & bean melt on the Suck It And See listen
Once you guys also listen to SIAS, you should really check out Alex's supergroup with Miles Kane. They have amazing songs on their two albums, The Age of the Understatement and Everything You've Come to Expect.
Such a fantastic album. Love that story Alex told of him waking up in the middle of the night to play the crying lighting lick. Feels like a nightmare riff in the best way. Love that about it!
Crying lightning is absolutely one of my faves too! It’s hard to overemphasise how massive arctic monkeys were in the UK in the large 00s/early 10s, they were basically the soundtrack to my teenage years! Every person you saw play at pub band nights in the UK at that time was trying so hard to be Alex Turner, he was the absolute pinnacle of cool 😂 Vividly remember singing along to them with my dad when he would drive me to house parties as a teen so it’s fun to see you two listening together now!
do you know any albums like it? ive been listening to it for the last few weeks and have been looking for similar albums so it would be great if you knew any :)
If you haven't already, listen to their two preceding albums. I was obsessed with this band for years and haven't found another band that quite scratches the same itch as early Arctic Monkeys did for me. However, there have been some that have gotten close. Namely Cage the Elephant and the Strokes. Like others have mentioned, Queens of the Stone Age albums Like Clockwork and Songs for the Deaf are probably the most similar to this particular album. The frontman for that band produced this very album and they are great. Just saw them Live a couple months back actually which was epic. Hope that helps!
oh my god so real. i was obsessed w crying lightning for ages and now i'm seriously obsessed w pretty visitors 😭 and then every other song is insane too i love arctic monkeyssss
They play it live most times. At Glasto 2013 (their peak imo) he finishes it then quips verbatim; for all the fellas who were too cool to raise your hands for the Pretty Visitors chorus, this one's for your girlfriends!", then they launch into I bet you look good...
Red Rocks 2023 played Crying Lightning and Pretty Visitors and if you check out the video, the transition from Knee Socks into PV was epic. They played songs from every album. It was an incredible concert.
I was front row when the Monkeys came here for the Humbug tour. My sister and I had motions to many of the songs, and Alex laughed at us for most of the show. It was kinda magical. Def one of my favorite concert experiences. Hahaha
It's fascinating how Dangerous Animals sounds exactly like something off Villains by Queens which didn't come out for like another 10 years. Homme's fingerprints are all over this album in the best way.
They did play quite a few from this record on the recent tour. “Potion approaching” was played a lot! Also, crying lightning and “pretty visitors” were most definitely played at your show! Thanks guys, Been waiting for this one!!! Bravo
Yes! My favorite Arctic Monkeys album! It's super underrated IMO Also, I usually listen to music when I'm playing with my dog, and I was listening to Humbug earlier when I was playing with her. I love the drumming on this album so much! Matt went so hard on this album! The 1-2-3-2-1snare on Crying Lightning was genius. Also, the closing drum fills on Jewellers Hands is epic.
Dingle me up lolol Edit: PLEASE do The Last Shadow Puppets, both of their albums are flawless imo - it’s his supergroup with miles Kane, and to me it’s music that Alex and Miles just want to make for fun as a passion project. So much personality in every track, and so much interesting musicality. I think you’d both enjoy a lot :) Edit 2: I got crying lightning, cornerstone and pretty visitors at the gig I went to last year, unbelievable at the front of the pit
They never switched drummers, you guys are talking about the bass player. Their 1st bass player left after the 1st album and then nick o malley came in during favorite worst nightmare until now
I went through a elitist prog rock phase after my Arctic Monkeys phase, so I stopped giving Nick and the rest of their band their flowers. I few years ago I got out of that mindset and decided to revisit Arctic Monkeys. Goddamn, they're good.
Love your arctic monkeys reactions, you need to do the streets first two albums, they’re different but they perfectly capture the essence of being a young person in the uk in the same way the first few AM albums do
Fun fact: Before the album announcement, they've been playing Do Me a Favour and Potion Approaching on tour just cause they said "the car" in the lyrics. I had the chance to enjoy Potion Approaching live in Argentina some months later under a huge thunderstorm.
Humbug is ELITE! I remember I took the day off school back in 2009 to listen when it was released. Potion approaching & dance little liar hit my entire body every time!
Yess, this is my favorite album!! I saw them back in 2022 and they played crying lightning, cornerstone, potion approaching and pretty visitors Needless to say I was losing my mind
Alex Turner was inspired by rap, to this is why some of his older songs have him singing faster and having that pace in his songs, Humbug is by far my favourite album.
You're spot on about the chemistry and Turner being different compared to his stage persona. According to most stories about people meeting him or judging from interviews (except maybe the AM era lol) he's a thoughtful reserved guy. He also always give the others their credit, even though he's the obvious star of the band from the outside.
I just discovered this channel (and you two) and I really love what you guys are all about. The fact that you two do this together and genuinely enjoy it awesome. I am a father of two, my son is 13 and daughter 12, and I appreciate your relationship as much as I do your love of music. I'm a big Arctic Monkeys fan and that's what brought me here initially. I actually wore an Arctic Monkeys shirt under my button-down today at school (with it un-buttoned, students could partially see it and I had conversations about the band, which so many students had never heard of before). I'll check out your other videos as well. Cheers.
At the last Monkeys concert I attended in the summer of 2022 they played Pretty Visitors, Potion Approaching, and Crying Lightning. Man, the performance was fire, I am sorry to hear that you didn't catch these songs live, next-level experience
I dont know how i missed this notification but so glad you did this album. Its the album that got me into the band so it has a special place in my heat
They did Pretty Visitors, Cornerstone, and Secret Door when I saw them for the first time in 2018 and it was soooooo amazing. They did a lot of Humbug songs when I saw them in September 23’ for their The Car tour. They’re amazing performers!! I’m so glad you guys finally covered this one, it’s definitely my favorite album from them. I never skip any of the songs on this one
Need to check Last Shadow Puppets albums (other band from Alex Turner - 1st album is from Favourite Worst Nightmare period and he is exploring new horizon that influences for sure the Arctic albums also)
i went to see them in 2022 and i got the nice treat of 4 humbug songs (crying lightning, potion approaching, cornerstone and pretty visitors)… safe to say it was one of the best live shows of my life great video like always!
Actually they did clarify in one of the interviews that my propeller is not about what you and everyone think it's about. "Propeller" refers to the mood rather than an organ. And he wants something or someone to come and take him out of his depression or creative block. Alex said that if it was really about THAT, he won't be singing "my propeller won't swing and I can't get it started on my own". Also, please check out Live by Louis Tomlinson 🙏🙏🙏
Thank you guys for covering this one 🤘❤️ been my favorite Arctic Monkeys album since it dropped. This was the first tour i got to see them live on 🌊❤️ Humbug forever!!!
I really think that this album and TBH+C are my favorites. Yes FWN, WPSIATWIN, AM are good, but those other two show such a dynamic musicianship that this band can rise to. Thanks for reacting to it!
When I got to see them live last year in México they played Crying Lightning and Pretty Visitors, and I have to tell you those two are amazing to hear live, but this being my favorite Monkeys album left me wanting for more too
@@therealninjastar all of their albums are amazing, however if i were to recommend an album to someone, id give them either of those two. wpsiatwin is an amazing album as well, however i find some songs just not sticking with me as much as others
Hell yea!!! I always asked for this one!!! Could you guys do the 2 albums of the last shadow puppets?! Please?!!! And thank you so much for this one!!!!
YAAAAAYYYYY more arctic monkeys!! great reaction as always guys :) when yall are done with all of the monkeys albums, maybe check out TLSP? everything you've come to expect is my fav album ever!!
Rest in Peace to your father and grandfather ❤️❤️ Humbug and AM are my favorite Arctic Monkeys album, I think Humbug is so underrated. This is one of the only albums that I love the whole way through. I love the heavy desert rock feel. I was so happy that they played some of these songs at the concert I went to in September. I SCREAMED when they played Pretty Visitors, I was hoping they would and my dreams came true! They played a decent amount of Humbug at their Boston show, it was literally the most magical night of my life. I left feeling the most euphoric I’ve ever felt in my life. Their set was absolutely orgasmic, it melted my brain. My favorite Arctic Monkeys song of all time is The Jeweller’s Hands, with R U Mine, Do I Wanna Know, and Secret Door very close behind them. This album is my favorite to play on guitar. I will always remember the feeling of hearing them live and how incredible it was. Love this channel, thanks for this guys! I’m so glad you both love this one 🥰
I would really apreciate if you guys made a reaction of The Last Shadow Puppets next, it gives a lot of contex to what they did after, and Alex said he was never realy singing before it
Yaaay! Tomorrow is my birthday, and the best present is you guys going through "Humbug", my favourite album ever! Thanks for the enjoyable ride through this absolutely spellbinding disc!
wow. how funny. i just saw your comment on the Fire And The Thud video few hours ago where you said, "i could live in the world of this album forever." ((i even screenshotted it))
@@amrlazn Heey what a lovely coincidence!🤗 You see, I'm telling you, that album is magic ;) And yes indeed, I could just swim and swim through that enchanting musical Humbug world...Glad you agree😎🌌
Kevin calling “Fire and the thud” hot and steamy with his Las Vegas prostitute analogy was awesome. Little did he know this album was recorded in the desert in the US and is considered “Stoner Rock” because of the Josh Homme contributions
If your dad thinks that this one's (positively) heavy, then you just _gotta_ finish it up with _Suck It and See_ soon. That's the heaviest they've ever been. Hard fucking rock. And then the other half is just some of the loveliest, sweetest, saddest and most heart-wrenchingly romantic stuff you've ever heard. Shoegaze-y. Borderline dream pop. Such a great mosaic of an album. The distilled essence of Arctic Monkeys, in a way. Like, if you mashed all of their albums together, _Suck it and See_ is probably what would come out.
i was hoping for SO long that youd finally get your dad to react to this one!! It took me a long time ti finally explore beyond fyn and wpsiatwin but this is my favourite in the rock genre alongside the former now
Brilliant album. I've been waiting for you to do a video on this one. It's great seeing other people's reactions to an album I rate so highly myself. Looks like you both enjoyed this one.
So to clarify what My Propellers about, Alex said in an interview that’s it’s about a descent. It has nothing to do with any organs 😂. Essentially, it’s about getting back on track after being in a deep depression by the help of someone else or drugs. Hope this helps!
Matt Helders is the drummer on all Monkey albums. Their Bass player changer after the first record.
Aaah thanks! I knew someone changed ~ Kevin
Nope! well sortof, Matt did not record drums on more than half of the songs of TBHC were recorded by Loren Humphrey who actively wrote drum parts, while Matt did synths.

I always thought the propeller was his mood, will to live
One year in the desert with Josh Homme and The Arctic Monkeys came out, changed people.
Peyote and cocaine will do that to you
When they were touring this album, they would finish the encore on Secret Door and play it out for ages, with a big confetti drop in sync with the drums coming back in at the end, it was magical!
I’ll never see that live and now I’m depressed
That was brilliant alright - it was an amazing moment when the confetti dropped
This makes me emotional
Bro you've made me so envious
really? They played it in Reading 2009. Think I was basically the only one that knew the song!
Secret Door is just otherworldly. That outro is just ✈️ It’s their best song imo.

Second best imo. A Certain Romance is number one and then Secret Door

they are absolutely the best two AM albums but I'd still consider them 9/10s
@@therealninjastar all of their albums are amazing, however if i were to recommend an album to someone, id give them either of those two. wpsiatwin is an amazing album as well, however i find some songs just not sticking with me as much as others
This is my favorite AM álbum, i love how your dad perceive the details and enjoy the heaviness. Send my greetings from Moscow! Love the channel!
Hell yea!!! I always asked for this one!!! Could you guys do the 2 albums of the last shadow puppets?! Please?!!!
And thank you so much for this one!!!!
MAN I WAITED SO LONG FOR THIS I CAN'T BELIEVE IT'S HERE
My god the Arctic Monkey are so good. Hope you guys do Suck it and See to complete all their albums!
this came out just as i was getting into arctic monkeys at the beginning of high school and has been my favorite album of theirs ever since
YAAAAAYYYYY more arctic monkeys!! great reaction as always guys :) when yall are done with all of the monkeys albums, maybe check out TLSP? everything you've come to expect is my fav album ever!!
THIS IS THE VIDEO I HAVE BEEN WAITING FOR❤
Rest in Peace to your father and grandfather ❤️❤️
Humbug and AM are my favorite Arctic Monkeys album, I think Humbug is so underrated.
Thanks for the enjoyable ride through this absolutely spellbinding disc!
wow. how funny. i just saw your comment on the Fire And The Thud video few hours ago where you said, "i could live in the world of this album forever." ((i even screenshotted it))
@@amrlazn Heey what a lovely coincidence!🤗 You see, I'm telling you, that album is magic ;)
And yes indeed, I could just swim and swim through that enchanting musical Humbug world...Glad you agree😎🌌
@@jelenazugic4500 this album will always hold a special place in my heart. happiest birthday!!
@@amrlazn Indeed, in mine too! Thanks so much for the birthday wishes! :)
Kevin calling “Fire and the thud” hot and steamy with his Las Vegas prostitute analogy was awesome. Little did he know this album was recorded in the desert in the US and is considered “Stoner Rock” because of the Josh Homme contributions
I HAVE BEEN COMMENTING DO HUMBUG FOR MONTHS OMG I AM FREAKING OUT THANK YOUUUUUUUUUUU
I LOVE YOU GUYS SO MUCH I AM SO HAPPY RN
If your dad thinks that this one's (positively) heavy, then you just _gotta_ finish it up with _Suck It and See_ soon.
That's the heaviest they've ever been. Hard fucking rock. And then the other half is just some of the loveliest, sweetest, saddest and most heart-wrenchingly romantic stuff you've ever heard. Shoegaze-y. Borderline dream pop. Such a great mosaic of an album.
The distilled essence of Arctic Monkeys, in a way. Like, if you mashed all of their albums together, _Suck it and See_ is probably what would come out.
Can't wait for you to do suck it and see it's by far their most underrated and fascinating album got some of their best songs on it IMO
matt helders owns this album
i was hoping for SO long that youd finally get your dad to react to this one!! It took me a long time ti finally explore beyond fyn and wpsiatwin but this is my favourite in the rock genre alongside the former now
... Like Clockwork by QOTSA, lads. And thank you for reacting to the best AM album.
Brilliant album. I've been waiting for you to do a video on this one. It's great seeing other people's reactions to an album I rate so highly myself. Looks like you both enjoyed this one.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE DO A VIDEO ON THAT INTERPOL ALBUM BEHIND YOU
This is my favorite Arctic Monkeys record! The vibes are immaculate and Josh Hommes production sounds incredible, hoping you guys enjoyed it ☺️
So to clarify what My Propellers about, Alex said in an interview that’s it’s about a descent. It has nothing to do with any organs 😂. Essentially, it’s about getting back on track after being in a deep depression by the help of someone else or drugs. Hope this helps!
Thx - Kev
@@kevinfromtttdo some drum covers from this album i know you like Potion Approaching
So it's like snap out of it but from the other perspective
