    You finally found a awesome boat!
    Me friend has the exact boat with a bow thruster.
    But you still have to contend with a huge sail.
    If you have to get into a storm you might have problems shorting the main sail!
    Try to find a Ketch!
    With a Ketch you can adjust the sails many different ways!
    Ketches preform excellent in heavy weather that is why you see so many Ketch's on the world's oceans!

    The reason the mast is stepped on the keel is to get the weight of the mast off the deck for better safety on the water.

    Hydraulic furlers. Backstay adjuster (also hudraulic) to tension forestay and eliminate sag in headsail.. On performance boats you can also tweek the mailsail shape with the backstay tension.

    Beautiful for passages.
    Those big boats have a deep draft so invest in a nice tender. I love the single hand boat. I would need help docking it I’m sure.
    I didn’t look at the price but for me that’s a lottery dream boat.

    Great video guys! We really loved it. As Oyster owners (Oyster 485/08 Talisman) I would add a few thoughts. First, this is an example of a classic center cockpit, ocean-going bluewater boat. And what does that mean? Well, it means getting a heavy build and that awesome aft owner's cabin. Even on the smaller 485, our aft cabin is remarkably similar, with full head height and bedding ranging from queen to king. This generally does not happen with aft cockpit production boats as the center trunk of the cockpit leaves only room for two quarter berths below, port and starboard. Second, the traveler location (which is where the design actually starts) is aft of the cockpit and connects to the aft end of the boom, which is where the load path is. An accidental jibe isn't nearly the disaster that it could be with a German mainsheet system attached to center boom. Third, it takes a big center cockpit boat to get twin helms. The smallest Oyster to have them is the 575, but anything smaller just gets too cramped to squeeze them in. Forth, boats of this size envision paid crew. This is where the "pilot" berths come in. If you're doing major passages, the "V-berth" is not the place to be. I can tell you first-hand that you'll go airborne regularly if you intend to sleep there. It's just a fact of life and this is true with all sailboats, although I suppose if they're big enough it might get better. Any skipper or crew with significant mileage under their belt will rig the lee cloth (check under the mattress with Oyster, they all come with them standard) and choose one of the pilot berths, the more aft the better. Sixth, I would doubt the draft to exceed 3 meters (ours is 2.4). They just make the keel longer and heavier. When larger draft in needed, you'll start seeing centerboards and hydraulically lifting keels. But I doubt that would be the case here. Seventh, I would guarantee that much of the woodwork around the engine can be removed easily should more major engine access be needed. Owners of boats like this rarely do their own maintenance. Finally, I have to say that Oyster Yachts rock in almost every possible way. We've just completed over 2,000nm of open water sailing, from Turkey all the way to Gibraltar (as of tomorrow afternoon) over two weeks in winds ranging to 50 knots sustained. Yes, we had heavily reefed sails, but the boat was solid as a rock and there wasn't even a creak from the joinery inside (not that this was news as we've had the boat for three years). And we sleep like rocks when off watch in our aft cabin, which is actually the hinge point of the boat when under way. Anyway, just wanted to let you know we enjoyed the video. Enjoy the boat show!

    Nice yacht, excellent review. I’m impressed with Brandy’s knowledge and vessel terminology. She knew the rigging and hardware upgrades as opposed to lesser quality boats. I do agree with the concern of engine compartment access and I think the navigation station should be facing forward and not aft. Not a deal breaker but just personal preference

    Tighten or loosen back stays (from the aft of the boat to the top of the mast) to bend or straighten the mast, thereby changing the three-dimensional shape of the sail to improve performance.

    Really interesting to see and brought back memories. I was involved in building Oysters in Southampton in the late 90’s, certainly beautiful and great quality for production yachts. We were also working on bespoke projects at the time such as the full rebuild of Velsheda, was certainly an interesting time, thanks for sharing! 😀

    Great boat. It would be nice if you guys asked the owner about the fuel, water and battery capacities. Water maker, and air conditioning. The water maker capacity, and the electronics specifics. No solar so the generator must be huge with high time. It must be running all the time to run the hydraulics for the furlers. You did not mention the sink. Although it is a single, it is large and on the center line, so it drains even on a tack. This is a beauty but needs a few bucks to make it more efficient. Almost as big as my house!!
    I know you are not brokers but for the curious and the benefit of the owner, these items sure would help complete the package. Love to see the bottom, the prop, the keel and the rudder configuration.

    This is the up most in quality from the joinery to the mechanics and use of space. Just a side note the furlers are hydraulically controlled as is the boom on the main mast. Ok yes I'll take 2.

    That's absolutely the dream right there. My only knocks are the rod stays, the half wire/half solid rails (just finish solid) and the small access to the engine room. Other than that I find it ideal. Love the sound deadening too.

      I agree with solid hand rails and at slightly higher height tham mpst boats supply , as for a person 6 foot plus slipping, would easily go overboard . Top of rail should be 3ft. Min.above deck , & side deck outer walls should have a drainable solution of about 6" so that the low wall can be foot- braced, against in rough seas . Also l would like to "tennis racquet" shaped eyelet screws inserted at intervals along the top of the outer foot- brace wall, so that a childproof & pet proof safety net solution can easily be installed with either a single horizontal net or an (inverted) U shape double thickness safety net coming up from the eyelets in the outer foot- brace wall , over the top rail & tensioned back at the foot- brace eyelet position . The netting mesh should be about 1.2" , to allow fingers to grab easily and aid climbing back on board especially if few crew on board. As they may be unaware of a MAN-OVERBOARD situation.

    Glad I watched until the end... I will keep an eye out for you guys and most likely stop by the booth as well. We will be docked at the Yatch Club docks right next to the show (power boat) Saturday and Sunday. There will be a ton of TH-cam sailing personalities there this weekend it would seem.     thanks great to see how the other half live! Good boat tour and interesting but prefer the smaller boats 45 feet < and less. More within my price range and dreams. Have a enough trouble trying to keep my 30 ft jeanneau maintained every year while juggling the family and house maintenance but we can but dream, thanks

    A lot of boat with a lot of systems and despite being well kept it will forever need maintaining , and at the investment you will want to keep it maintained. Watch 'sailing Britaican' for how much maintainance even a smaller Oyster takes when used full time.
    Wonderful boats to sail and used , but to own.....deep pockets. The fairly low price reflects the depreciation and cost to run. Cheers Warren

    About as fine as it gets. Lifetime yacht! World cruiser (only obvious), my dream boat if I were 20 years younger😊!!! Just to add yes you could probably single hand this but you also probably wouldn’t want to. Close in handling, Med mooring would be tough!

    If you like mono hulls then this one sure seems like a great one. I hope you do a Tayana full keel yacht sometime soon. They seem like fantastic boats. Ultra sturdy and they last a very long time. At any rate I would love to sail the world in the boat in this video. Just hire a crew or get volunteers and away I would go .

    The thing you didnt know what it was in the equipment room is a hydrolic pump probably for the dingy davit, or the tensions on the rigging.

    Being known as solid sea boats, I’m sure this Oyster handles well in tougher sea conditions, but with the many different deck transitions throughout, I worry that this boat presents far more trip hazards than I’d be comfortable with. She does look very stout though, so I’m sure she can handle most anything one might face when out on passage.

    The sails aren't electric furling, they are hydraulic furling. The piece of equipment you saw in the room with the A/C and water maker looked like the hydraulic pump.

    Yup, Oyster used to be the Rolls Royce of the sailing yachts. I have been to their factory in Ipswich (1999) where they fit them out. They are all semi-custom. Anything above the 55’ is too big to handle for a couple. Not to speak of the huge costs to maintain all the systems. However Oyster’s service folks used to fly all over the world to aid their customers when there are problems, especially when the yacht was still under warranty. Don’t know what the current situation is, as I read Oyster went belly up last year.
    If you want to have an Oyster get a classical 55’, I believe their most successful model. Big enough and rock solid. Designed and built for blue water cruising around the world. Shouldn’t be hard to find a used one.

    Great Sailing yacht still today as I am watching 3 years later. I would recommend not hanging a purse with a big metal piece on your back as it scratches the wood as you walk around.

      It's an adjustable backstay, used to control the bend of the mast and ultimately the shape of the mainsail.

    Hey guys, I’m a Brit so biased as Oyster Yachts are built in the UK and have a great reputation. Beautiful boat and couldn’t disagree with anything you said. I was also surprised at engine access and there were some quirky bits that must have been owner requests I suspect. Way to big for most of us but great boat nonetheless. Thanks. Andy UK

    They are called hydraulic back stays and are designed to assure the optimal shape of the MAST depending on the wind and sail conditions. The mast will actually curve backwards (forming a belly forward) to varying degrees to assure the most efficient use of the sails. When the mast is curved, you can actually see the curvature with the naked eye. There is a serious force involved, hence the hydraulics.

    When I went sailing I didnt need a tv I always thought why when there is so much to do no matter where we were its was far nicer to investigate places even when on anchor no need for tv at all.

      I believe that was a passerelle. Widely used when mooring "Med style" aka "Stern to". You put one end on your transom, and the other end leads to the dock. Usually have some rigging to allow you to pick up the whole thing or the shore end and swing it back aboard.

    Actually 700 grand is good value for this yacht. Also..surprised there is not a dedicated engine room.

      A engine room would break up the continuous floor plan. I'm sure Oyster would build you one if you wanted that layout.

      I wonder how much of nav station/companionway area has to get disassembled if you need to replace the engine?!?!
