Its videos like these that have helped me keep my 20 year old furnace running. I've changed the inducer motor, the blower motor , flame sensor. squirrel cage blower, also added a humidifier without any training. I've probably saved 2k-5k doing it myself Thanks for your helpful videos.
Awesome to hear that! That you were able to successfully do all those projects yourself. I agree that you probably saved at least a few thousand dollars! Plus you now have a good idea of how it all works/comes apart and have the experience to do it again if needed.
Great tip! We have the 4 burner version of that furnace and it is definitely a pita to access. But actually, the position of the sensor on the larger burner is further to the left such that one only needs to remove the pipe. We are replacing the furnace this year so i probably won't need to use the tip, but it is great to see this series on the Carrier furnace. Thanks!
Thank you! Oh boy, yeah if the pipe is not removed it makes things really challenging. 😅 (I've done it the hard way plenty of times) My apologies that these videos are coming out so late but may your new furnace run problem-free for you for at least 15 years!
I got a 3 cylinder car now and maybe I can take it out and put it on my bench in the shed 😂. It's brand new, so I guess I won't have to worry about it for 10 years or so and then I'll be too old anyway...
@Eddy63 Lol this shady character thought about it and you're actually right!! My space gets used the most often out of all the keys... Must be my favorite then! Thanks for stopping by my friend, always good to see you in the comments! Aloha and greetings from Hawaii! Have a marvelous new week.
Great tip. Necessity is a mutha. I recall a Lennox furnace where the screw holding the sensor was accessible only from the back of the burner rack which meant that assembly had to be removed first. Why didn't they just install it from the front? Designers are funny birds.
Jay has a video on top ten issues for furnaces that won't start. It's high on the list. When I used to have my furnace "checked", the one guy I trusted said they always look at (and clean) the FS after the filter and intake and exhaust outlets are inspected..
Yes, as @rzh3443 already mentioned, a dirty flame sensor is actually the most common reason why a furnace stops working. th-cam.com/video/T4IWtKy--Vk/w-d-xo.htmlsi=UufXC4_pSButMyRa
@@WordofAdviceTVYes, that is how I have always done it on our Carrier. Skinny mini ratcheting screwdriver with exactly the right length extension to put the handle in a gap. Kinda like working on modern cars haha. Still takes 20 minutes of frustration to get the screw back in so your tip is much better!
Furnace is in a closet but I can see sunlight coming in and outside air. There is a opening on top. Is there supposed to be a opening on top? Does there need to be fresh air coming in? Thank you
Flex gas line in furnace burner compartment is against mechanical code. Also, it’s usually easier just to take out the whole burner box assembly. Then you have access to burners and flame sensor.

Thanks for the info. I dislike it when manufacturers make it so difficult to perform basic maintenance.
You're welcome. I can only agree with that statement. 👍
Manufacturers of flame sensors should include a Band-Aid in each box .😂
Thanks, Jay 👍👍👍
Haha right?? Now that you mention it, I do remember being cut a bunch of times while doing this..
Have a wonderful new week good sir!

Thanks for sharing tricks of the trade. How often should the flame sensor be cleaned and what kind of symptoms you get when it’s dirty or defective?
Once a year is best. I show an example of the symptoms in this video: th-cam.com/video/3Jonl_TLkpE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=5GE30vjEo4mEL2y6
This reminds me many cars are not designed for easy maintenance so avoid those cars if you can. Thank you Jay for saving the day ! 💯
V6s are the worst
Amen to that! Some of the newer vehicles seem to purposely make things really hard to get to.. You're welcome sir! Thank you for stopping by!

@classic287 Sounds very economical! 😂 In more than one way.
May it run problem-free for you for at least 20 years or until sold!
Very nice tip & coming from a '' Shady Character '' who likes his '' Space '' , Aloha my friend , always look forward to a good chuckle ... Thx
I too look forward to hearing from Jay. What a gentleman .

Great tips thank you 😊

That's a very good question! Sometimes it seems like the engineers did that on purpose.
Thanks for the tip. All your tips are the best 👍🙂
You're welcome! Glad you found the tip helpful.
Have a great new week!
Cool they make tools like this... could you do a vide on most HVAC update it tools?
That's a good idea! I haven't made a tools video in a long time. Thank you for the suggestion!
Yes sir
You're a really good teacher. I'm curious to know your country of origin.
Thank you! My parents are from Russia, I grew up in Minnesota. 👍
@@WordofAdviceTV supercool!
I have a 1992 Lennox Diplomat. I think it's a category 5 to access the flame sensor.
Oh yikes. If it's category 5 I don't think this trick will suffice. 😅 My condolences sir..
great video recording work
Thank you!!!
You're welcome! 🙂
That was crazy, as bad as changing the 12volt battery out, on some vehicles. Some are easy other require a bunch of disassembly to get at them.
Yeah! Unfortunately making things easily accessible is not very high on the manufacturer's priority list. 😅
Is a dirty flame sensor actually a common malfunction/problem?

@@WordofAdviceTV Your AC capacitor replacement video helped me out a while back. Thanks for all you do.
@artistjjebsen Awesome! Good to hear you were able to get it fixed! You're welcome.
1/4" ratcheting wrench can save you lots of time gettting out flame sensor screws
Yes! That's another good one to have. Thank you for mentioning it!
What is the removal of the flame sensor for do you clean it? And what is the sensor use for in a furnace
I show an example of what happens when it's dirty in this video: th-cam.com/video/3Jonl_TLkpE/w-d-xo.htmlsi=_qSIM5cknSHSTR5m
Sometimes we have to earn our money the hard way but it's glorified when we can do it the easy way👍
Haha amen brother! Sometimes you just need to get it done but it's nice not have to do it the hard way.
Great
Thank you! 🙂
I once replaced a very fragile part which I broke verrry easily when I took it out . Igniter sensor
Yes, unlike the flame sensor, the ignitors can be very fragile!
Sometimes using bulky power tools is worse than a traditional screwdriver
Yes! I know exactly what you mean. A plain long screw driver/nut driver often works much better.

if you can get your hand close enough and touch it use a dollar bill wrap the bill around it then rub it clean
That's an option too, thanks!
