You call it a pressure switch why? Not HP not LP not water flow but an air flow PS then you could call it an air flow PS for all the furnace rookies like me. See we do not have these in SE Florida and i am trying to wrap my head on what kind of pressure switch is that looks like a pool heater water pressure switch but there is no H2O flow and gas flow makes no sense by placement then you pulled the hose that I cannot see and I got it! Anyway, great lesson for me!! I will watch it several times over next few days as I am in furnace country and need to be proficient fast!!

People like you posting these videos on TH-cam has saved me tens of thousands of dollars over the past 10 years between my business and home. From car repairs, to building walls, painting, repairing washing machines, servicing water softeners, repairing water heaters, and servicing my HVAC systems. Just last week I opened my RTU's heating panel to check for cob webs and an hour later realized i lost my heat. Turns out the wind blew the flames at my burner and tripped the limit switch which I learned from one of your other videos. I now know to turn the unit off before opening that access panel on a windy day (or just in general). This video was fun to watch to learn a bit more about how these work. Thanks!

I just want to give you a sincere thank you - I have a nasty habit of ignoring things I don't understand... not a good habit when it concerns a furnace. I wasn't having issues necessarily but I got to watch it work in real time and understand what was happening as it went through the sequence. Thank you so much!
Knowing the sequence of operation is more important than I realized; I have a Carrier Infinity 80 series HVAC system paired with an Edge TP Series thermostat. The system recently stopped working one night, but right before this happened, the "change filter" light had come on. Changed the filter, flipped switch back on and--nothing! Following the instructions given on several of the WOA TV videos, I tested the various switches with a multimeter, and they checked out ok. The trouble code light flashed a code 32, which for Carrier suggests, among other things, a possible inducer motor issue. I had seen one other video that showed how this motor's wheel sometimes becomes seized, so I used a small screwdriver to turn the motor's blade. It WAS stuck and after spinning in a few times, the entire system started EXACTLY as shown in your video! Thank you for providing this information.

This was a fantastic video. It enabled me to troubleshoot my gas furnace, my igniter was bad, it cost $20 and $5 to ship, and it was easy to replace. Now my furnace works great.

I loved his video. The furnace part is cool. But what i loved the most is how he explained his reasoning. The logic he explained is the key to troubleshooting so many things.
Very helpful. My furnace was in lock-out mode because the flame sensor was dirty. The LED had one flash saying it was locked-out. Didn't know why until the time-out was reached and flame came back on then right back off, which told me from previous experience that the flame sensor was dirty again. Great job in creating this video.

Glad I came across your video. Your explanation is way better than the manual. I’ve been looking for videos to find out what happens after the hot surface ignitor turns cherry red. The solenoid gas valve should open. While I was checking my friends furnace, the HSI turned cherry red but the flames never turned on. I never heard a click coming from the solenoid gas valve but now I have an idea where to check. Main gas valve was open. Thanks for the video.
Thanks for the great videos. I was able to troubleshoot my flame sensor and get up and running for $10. Here was my problem in case others have similar issues. My inducer fan would start but only about 30% of the time the spark ignitor would light the flame. If it ignited it might run for 3-5 sec or sometimes a minute then flame out. The circuit board error code gave 2 flashes which is "pressure switch" or "not sensing flame" error on my unit. Lucky every HVAC place in the country out of 0.33 pressure switch stock so I couldn't order and just replaced a flame sensor. I have heat again.

Today, my furnace failed to light. After watching your videos, I discovered that the gas opening behind burner 3 next to burner 4 which has the flame sensor was blocked. On cleaning and un blocking it plus cleaning the flame sensor, things are now back to normal. Thanks for your help. You are such good teacher.

As a retired industrial electrician who dealt with many different systems and machinery I am very pleased with your explanation of how a furnace cycles. I would have liked to see you explain how the indicator light showed during a normal cycle first. This is what the average person looks for first.
My flashing light is like hidden down towards the bottom, so I need to put up a big sign to remind myself to look for the flashing light before I work on anything… My 32 year old furnace has been off and on troublesome for 12 years but I love it when I can fix it with help… York stellar +plus 1990

Very good information in a usable format. My 20 year old well maintained Trane furnace failed during this year's snow storm. With your information, I was able to isolate the valve assembly / loose module connection as the culprit. I jury rigged a temporary fix since my technician (or anyone else) cannot get up our very step hill that is covered with a foot of snow and now ice. Thanks!!

I’ve been looking for videos to find out what happens after the hot surface ignitor turns cherry red. The solenoid gas valve should open.
While I was checking my friends furnace, the HSI turned cherry red but the flames never turned on. I never heard a click coming from the solenoid gas valve but now I have an idea where to check. Main gas valve was open.

Thanks for the great videos. I was able to troubleshoot my flame sensor and get up and running for $10. Here was my problem in case others have similar issues. My inducer fan would start but only about 30% of the time the spark ignitor would light the flame. If it ignited it might run for 3-5 sec or sometimes a minute then flame out. The circuit board error code gave 2 flashes which is "pressure switch" or "not sensing flame" error on my unit. Lucky every HVAC place in the country out of 0.33 pressure switch stock so I couldn't order and just replaced a flame sensor. I have heat again.

Today, my furnace failed to light. After watching your videos, I discovered that the gas opening behind burner 3 next to burner 4 which has the flame sensor was blocked. On cleaning and un blocking it plus cleaning the flame sensor, things are now back to normal.

@@WordofAdviceTVI have a problem with the air and heat coming on the thermostat wiring is correct but it doesnt have a jumper wire and it only has 4 wires but the fan comes on but that's it and it's a Honeywell sliding non programable one any advice?

As a retired industrial electrician who dealt with many different systems and machinery I am very pleased with your explanation of how a furnace cycles. I would have liked to see you explain how the indicator light showed during a normal cycle first. This is what the average person looks for first.
My flashing light is like hidden down towards the bottom, so I need to put up a big sign to remind myself to look for the flashing light before I work on anything… My 32 year old furnace has been off and on troublesome for 12 years but I love it when I can fix it with help… York stellar +plus 1990
Great video. I appreciate the visual explanation. I’ve been trying to figure out why my Bryant furnace blower won’t operate at the same time the flames are active. Still working on it but this helped me get a better understanding of how everything works together.

Very good information in a usable format. My 20 year old well maintained Trane furnace failed during this year's snow storm. With your information, I was able to isolate the valve assembly / loose module connection as the culprit. I jury rigged a temporary fix since my technician (or anyone else) cannot get up our very step hill that is covered with a foot of snow and now ice. Thanks!!
