I’m from St. Croix. Thanks for the nice video. A few things I thought were important to add: The best swim-able beaches are west and north side. There is little to no swimming on the south and east facing beaches. Also you mentioned that you were the only ship in port. St. Croix usually only takes one cruise ship per day and maxes out at two cruise ships. We differ from St. Thomas where they can have as many as six cruise ships per day. Rainbow Beach is one of my favorite beaches on the island. I’m sorry you didn’t see much marine life there, but it can be a great place to see lots of marine life including sea turtles! Thanks for the video!

Thanks for chiming in, Chris! It's always good to get comments from locals. What would you say is your top recommendation for someone who's visiting the island for the first time, say on a cruise ship, so they only have 8-10 hours there?

@@maureenprz7938 Carambola can be a nice swim-able beach for kids, but sometime the surf can kick up there making it not so friendly for swimmers. The good news is that Cane Bay, a 5 min drive, is almost always a great place for kids.

Christiansted is all St. Croix really has to offer. The girls are friendly.

fyi, Frederiksted Pier almost NEVER has more than one ship in, and one ship only about 8 times a month during season. It is not the commercial enterprise that St. Thomas is. I grew up in P. R. and the last thing I want from a beach is crowds and wondering if my car will be partially there when I return. That's why we retired here waterfront. The only reason it was busy when you went to Rainbow was because of your ship crowd. We've done about 30 cruises, they are fun if you want to land with 5k people at the same time and same location.

I think cruises are a fun way to get a feel for a bunch of destinations in one go, so then you can decide if you'd want to go back to any of them to stay for a longer period of time. That's how we've been looking at it, anyway. The last cruise we did had WAY too many people on it so we could not get away from crowds anywhere, but I remember Rainbow Beach not being crazy crowded - especially not like Coki Beach in St. Thomas.
Where would you suggest we go on our next trip to the Virgin Islands? It sounds like you'd know some good spots 😎

We were making plans to go to Trunk Bay on our next cruise but our port times changed and we won't have time now 😒 We'll make it there eventually!

    What month/temperature was it?

We visited in December, and while I don't remember exactly what the temperature was, I can tell you it was hot enough that everyone in our group (who are mostly from Southern California) were all in shorts, tshirts, and tank tops all day. The average high in St. Croix in December is 82 and the average low is 72. I hope that helps!

Hi there! Is there a specific beach that you recommend? What makes it "better for kids"? We don't have kids so that's not a concern for us, but I am curious.
