    Just a bit of info. It was a good job I moved Aitch when I did. As the next day the River was like a Torrent, and the water levels were over the banks. Hopefully in the future I won't have to move Aitch too often in such bad conditions, and you will have a better viewing experience without rain all over the camera! Thank you so much for watching. All the best Vince.

    Thanks buddy for taking us along! Finally a narrowboat video that shows the English weather as it really is, everyone else only shows blue sky and sunshine trips. Makes you think Britain is in the tropics...lol . And I never felt as happy for someone stopping for a hot coffee as I did for you in this video. And besides - awesome job steering !!!

    Lovely video again sir; many thanks. Re the bridge of ugliness; I cannot understand how they get planning permission for these monstrosities, as you said, totally out of place. They'll grant planning permission for that sort of dross, but you try and build a shed in your back garden and see how that goes. You are making me very homesick; sitting here in Africa for many years, you wouldn't believe how I still miss those cold winters days.

    Nice surprise Vince to find the video posted this morning. Glad you made it safely before the river started to flood. It's been pretty constant with all the rain and dangerous too! You're a trooper for filming in that that weather. Finding a proper constructed mooring is much safer than risk of putting pins in a muddy riverbank when it's like this.Rob

      Cheers Robbie, I actually reversed up past the designated moorings. I wasn't going to play about I just wanted to get in and get warm. PS You're right about being able to tie up properly, the way the water was running there was a good chance it would have pulled mooring pins out! Vin

    Hi Vince, I hope you got warm and dry and enjoyed that feeling of accomplishment in getting your jobs done. That does look like a nice mooring. I must say Aitch is a very lovely looking boat. Well done. I was watching this with my Grandson Konrad. He was asking what it was like inside. I know someone else has asked about the inside so when you get cleared up and you've got time, you have another eager viewer.

    Hi Vince, as a fellow single handed boater, although not a constant cruiser, a suggestion for your centre line. Buy a rope long enough to go from the stern, to the centre and back to the stern, then add a bit more on. Tie the centre of the rope around your centre fitting, take the rope out and under your handrail and fit a cleat to the port and starboard. Take the rope through each of these and along back to your stern position. You'll then have a rope on the port and starboard which should help with not getting hung up on your plank. Also you have the added advantage of a very long rope, should it ever be required. Hope the rest of the winter is good for you.

    • @NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle
      @NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Cheers Tangs, for the sound advice!

    • @danensis
      @danensis 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It's not a good idea to have a rope longer than the distance from your centre point to the prop - otherwise you can guarantee that at some stage it will end up wrapped round your prop.

    • @tangs167
      @tangs167 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@danensis Agreed, but by using a single rope as 2 centre lines gives you the option of 1 longer rope, if it is ever required - I've needed this a couple of times in deep river locks.

    @ronwebster4408 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hi Vince, another nice one thank you. Just a little word of warning that you have probably realised by now. The river running higher and faster the low bridges will be lower, steerage will not be quite so responsive, stopping Aitch will take longer and more power,because you are travelling down stream,and will be pushed. Hopefully the overflows mentioned earlier doing there job , will help. I think that bridge was a piece of engineering art, and all the residents of the flats will be glad its there, access to both sides of The Stort. (PJ)

    Another enjoyable vlog. Hoping to do the same as you one day.
    Quick question that you may be able to answer in another vlog: How do you know what is a mooring space? Obviously if there is something to moor to I can understand, however often there seems to be nothing to indicate that there is a mooring.
    You can probably tell I am very new to this 😂

    • @NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle
      @NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hello Spence, you can moor anywhere on the towpath side, unless it is a designated no mooring area, for 2 weeks unless mooring times otherwise signposted! The rest is just common sense, like you don't want a mooring if the canal is too narrow, or on a bend etc. Things like that!

    Don't worry about filming in such conditions, it gives your viewers a good idea of what boat life is really like. As someone who wears glasses, your views with water spots all over the lens are pretty much what I see when I'm helming in the rain.

    • @NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle
      @NarrowboatCruisingLifestyle  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I quite like showing people what it's like in the rain. Like you said, it gives viewers a real taste of boat life. As you have probably noticed I show all my little mistakes. But the thing that gives me the hump, is when it throws the auto focus out sometimes.

  • @TheByard
    @TheByard 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Vince don't keep on apologizing for the video there fine and maybe all you need to do is wipe off the lenses know and again. Suggestion get a glass cloth from the cleaning goods isle in Tesco's, instead of the expensive one time wipes. They use the same cloths in the optical dept. but they won't tell you!!!!
    A boating tip is to drop anchor on the upstream end of you boat, just incase the pins pull or a chav lets your lines go especially in town.
    Next time I'm in the area, my daughter lives on the outskirts on Hunsdon I will explore the Stort and have a pint or two. On lock down in Vietnam and today it's poured with rain so feel in company with you, but it's still shorts and T shirt weather.
    Buy yourself a Christmas present of some good oil skins and a bottle of something to keep out the cold. All the best mate.
