  • Hi everyone, my father and I decided to make a video of his new Can-am Defender XT HD10 Limited. He said when he was looking for information on this unit, he had a hard time finding any good videos. So he wanted to make one to help anyone interested in it. We are not professionals so bare with us. This is our first video of this type so if you like it please like and or subscribe and we'll make some more.
    In motion • Can-am Defender XT HD1...
    Back trail • Can-am Defender XT HD1...
    Just before we climb the steep back section • Can-am Defender XT HD1...

    Belt slippage is monitored. When in high gear going up a steep hill or working hard causing the belt to slip a bit it tells you to use low gear

    What a great video. I can tell that it was a comfortable ride and where I come from 28 is very cold. I have now no doubt in my mind that I want the enclosed cab thanks for sharing the video ( I'm sure I will use a/c more than heat in N.C.)

    I have the 2019 HD10 XT Cab with the Apache 360 LT tracks up in Canada and love it so far. Way more capable than my previous Argo 6x6 with 18” tracks. Nice video 👍

      How tall is your Defender with tracks on?

    There’s a belt stress sensor that tells you if you need to put it in low gear. Hard on the belt if you’re pulling up steep hills in high all the time.

      Would you happen to know if you can delete, unhook, or override that sensor? This is a huge design flaw in my opinion. Our HD5 will hardly ever wanna drive in high gear. Even on a smooth trail, with no passengers, and a cold day.

    I have the '19 model and it will tell me to go to low range if I drive under 19mph for very long. I use mine for snowplowing and it's been great. I have the HD8 model.

    • @rydstallion75
      @rydstallion75 ปีที่แล้ว

      Unfortunately I think all the can am models will do that. A big design flaw in my opinion, they should be able to handle slow speeds. Our HD5 will always tell you to use low gear, even on a smooth trail, with no passengers and a cold day. Other than that, I really like the machines.

    What is all the snapping and popping in the cab at around 17:00 and on? It’s really loud.. my 21 Polaris ranger northstar with tracks is whisper quiet inside ? That sounds terrible like something is wrong or broke

      I believe that was the latch on the windshield rattling. My father mentions it here th-cam.com/video/yiS7Rzf_Ay0/w-d-xo.html. This was one of the first rides after he received the unit and put the tracks on, so they had to tweak a few things. The windshield latch was not grabbing very well and had to be adjusted. Since then, they've used it a lot and really like it.

    Is it worth the money? Wondering how fast the miles stack up, 5000 miles is considered high mileage. A truck for 28 gs get 100000 miles know what I mean?

    • @WadeMade
      @WadeMade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I can only speak on behalf of my father about whether he thinks it's worth the money. For him, yes it's definitely worth it. My mom and he are now in their low 70's and recently they've been having some medical issues. They don't get around super easily anymore. They live on a large piece of land that's a closed down old ski resort. At the top of the hill, they have the best view in the area and love to go up there to see the sunsets and so on. But now that they are getting older it's hard for them to get into a more sporty RZR/Can-am or other models and the cold just chills their bones. This unit with the air/heat, the enclosed cabin, really allows them to enjoy it year-round and keep comfy. Plus with the tracks, it's practically impossible to get stuck. They recently got a spot locater for Xmas just in case they do get stuck because neither of them could make it back to the house through the snow and cell service is not great on the mountain. So for them, it's the perfect vehicle right now. IMO being a 48year old, I love the enclosed cabin and the heat and air. Sometimes it can be a little overpowering but you can regulate it easily by opening the window. I've ridden fast trails behind an arctic cat with more suspension and while the defender did a good job I could see where if you like to go really fast down some choppy trails having a little more suspension would be nice. Also, I would prefer the seat to have a little more recline to it. You sit pretty upright. It's fine though for 90% of the stuff you will do. Maybe I'm just used to a more sporty seating position though since I used to have a sportier unit myself. My father also recently got a plow for Xmas. I'll have to ask him how well it works! They get a lot of snow in northern Michigan. I can tell he's really happy with it. So to answer your question, yes I believe it's worth it. I wouldn't worry about the mileage. This thing can go where you could never take a truck. So considering that, I'd have to ask you where do you plan to ride it? A place a truck can go or some extreme trails a truck could never handle. If it's the former maybe this isn't for you. If it's the latter I think you'd be happy.

    What happened to the ski area? Not enough snow?

    • @WadeMade
      @WadeMade  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, they get plenty of snow. It was bought by a competitor in the late 70's early 80's I believe, then they closed it down and sold it off to the DNR with a stipulation to never be operated as a ski resort again. Then the DNR sold it to a private party and now my parents have bought it from the private party. So maybe someday it will open again. That might be a project for the grandkids though.

    I’m a big ice fisherman. I’ve been kicking this machine around. Can anyone give me feedback on tracks as far as ice fishing goes? Curious how well they work if there is slush on the ice.

    • @WadeMade
      @WadeMade  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'll ask my father but I don't think he's had any experience on lake ice yet. I wouldn't think it would be an issue. The thing drives great with the tracks.
