One of my favorite interview questions is, "Where does the ps command get the various information that it displays?" That might make a good follow up video. Thanks for taking the time to teach others. Cheers!

I’ve been using “ps aux” for years without understanding what those columns really mean, except the pid. Thanks for deep explanation!

I like your new partnership, or whatever it is, with Linode.. much cleaner content. Congratulations to you both on your arrangement.

@7:15 a small oopsie in describing the status marks: You said "S" is uninterruptible sleep, but that is actually "D". S, interruptible sleep, is when the process has nothing to do, so it's waiting for something to happen that it can react to. D, uninterruptible sleep, is when the process is blocked waiting for something it's demanded, like blocks of data from disk. You can't interrupt it, because the kernel is busy arranging to hand it what it wanted (if it can) and the process is in a state where it cannot continue until it gets what it's asked for. -- That's my understanding of it, anyway.

TIL the different names for different styles of specifying options. 👍

You said there different styles of options for the ps cmd, i.e. linux, gnu, etc. I thought linux was bundled with gnu. Also how do we recognize a system that uses gnu as opposed to linux? Great video, I enjoyed it. Do you have a complete class on linux?

Very interesting. However, in a systemd environment much of the same admin can and should be done via systemd ctl commands. Please do a video on using systemd to access much the same information.

Not able to sign-up to linode. Everytime getting cancelled for some unknown reason. Send a mail to linode support but haven't got any reply yet. Would appreciate any help if you could offer.
