    Nicely equipped. I haven't mounted my stern anchor yet but was planning a 2.5 gallon bucket. The extension cord reel makes much more sense. It is all an evolution of course. Got a few other ideas too. I have struggled moving the mast and avoiding bending the spreaders on the lifelines. I didn't think of disconnecting the lifelines from the forward end and letting them go slack. I'll have to give that a try. I also need to get myself set up so I don't have to empty the boat each time I come home. All those trips up the ladder and down into the cabin get positively aerobic after a while.

    Love the video. I've been boat shopping and have decided that the Macgregor is likely the best fit for me. Love seeing someone out there using one much like I would.

      consider the Macgregor19 as well as the 26, it has plenty of advantages if you are a small group. personally, i think it is a better boat than the 26m, for a lot less money. we like ours because it is tiller steer, has a break down mast that sits inside the boat. Great boats that you will use

    Thanks, informative video. The Coleman shower on the dark cabin windows noted, easy as! The use of cycling bottle holders on stanchions and then suction cups for internal storage useful. Bimini additions for shade. Thanks to you both. Just starting out on a 26M.

    I really want one of these to tow from my home in northern sc and be able to weekend anywhere from coastal nc to southern goergia. Florida is within range aswell esp for a 3 or 4 day weekend. Knock the rust off my sailing skills and add to my skillset with more experiance before i make the big trips toward Europe.

    Impressed you have it backed into your slip. Wind + Current + Flat bottom and High Freeboard makes getting these into slips kinda tricky.

    Thanks for the tour! Lotta great ideas there for my own 26X. You just got yourself another subscriber, but for now I'm off to check out that gear on your Amazon store. Thanks again!

    My husband and I bought a MacGregor 26M last summer and your set up is exactly what we're planning. Two questions I have: 1. How do you prevent items from essentially rolling around in your storage spaces to other storage spaces (i.e. mirrored seat to the stem)? 2. where did you find the suction cup paper towel holder?! I can't find one anywhere!
    Thanks! Love the video.

      Do you use seawater in the solar shower then final rinse with fresh?

    • @thesailingrode1817
      @thesailingrode1817  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +T Geddes no, if we can, we just jump in the sea water then rinse with the solar shower. But often we just shower with the solar, 5 gal actually lasts us for two showers each.

    Looks like the perfect setup for what you guys are doing at this point in time. I have been curious what the interior looked like. A nice looking used MacGregor 19 just became available within a 2 hour drive of me. I am thinking it might be a nice first sailboat.

      We also really enjoyed our first boat, a 1985 Macgregor 25. We compare the boats on one of our early podcasts here: www.thesailingrode.com/podcast/003-the-sailing-rode-podcast-trailer-sailors-macgregor-25-26m/. You can find a good Mac 25 under $5K. good luck on your search.

  • @mikecloutier6669

    Whew! Finally! I just knew I would pick up on an idea or two if I saw your layout. The anchor layout, tarp, shower caddy thingie and cupholders just to name a few. I find I have to bungee my cooler in under the table as I have a tendency to push the boat to heel a bit much past "comfortable" levels. Also, did you reinforce the area under your bunk or just thrown a mattress on it? What kind of mattress is it? Thanks gang!

    • @thesailingrode1817
      @thesailingrode1817  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you liked it. We have not reinforced under the bed, but I do plan to put some tabs on the covers as they sometimes move under the bed. Our mattress is 3" of firm foam with 2" memory foam on top.

    Sorry for this dumb question. I have never sailed before but have been studying this boat and thinking of buying one. You showed a solar shower up on the deck. Now can you use it in the head or do you have to shower on the deck?

    We have a 2000 MacGregor 26M that we love. We've had her for about 10 years now. We sail out of Jupiter Florida. Where are you located and sail out of?

    • @ukesgp
      @ukesgp 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We are in Orlando and keep it on the trailer, so we go all over the state. We have had some fun trips down to Jupiter and Palm Beach.

    • @SeanPaulPhoto
      @SeanPaulPhoto 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey Freedom! Saw your comment, we're also out of Jupiter and looking to get our first sailboat. How do you like the MacGregor for cruising around here?

    • @windoffreedom7358
      @windoffreedom7358 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@SeanPaulPhoto For this area, the MacGregor is absolutely perfect. A trailerable sailboat is the most cost effective sailboat you could own since you're not tied into slip fees (i.e. - You can take it home and put it in your yard if you have a place big enough to store it and you're not in a homeowners association that won't allow it at your home. None the less, storing on the trailer is way less expensive then monthly slip fees which is huge $$$$ in this area.) Know that the Mac is not a "day" sailor, you trailer it to the water one day and you would want at least 3 days on the water before you pack her up and bring her home. Too much work for a one day trip. I usually trailer it down and keep it at a marina for a 3 days to a week and then pack it up and bring it back home. So much to discuss about what type of boater / sailor you are and what you're looking for. I love my Mac!

    How much? Can it withstand ocean and extreme cold?

    • @DavidMosby
      @DavidMosby 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      This is not an ocean boat. The nice thing is that the engine can get that boat back to shore quickly if bad weather blows in. Heating a boat is a pain. Fire on boat is bad. Electric heat takes too many amps. They're in FL.
      These boats go for 10k and up used. Check out yachtworld.com for prices.

    smaller than the 55 foot cats you were looking at

    • @thesailingrode1817
      @thesailingrode1817  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      It works great for our current cruising, but a big cat would be a lot more comfortable to live on.

    • @ParrotSailor
      @ParrotSailor 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Not a cat fan at all. They are ugly overpriced floating shingles that all look like clorax bottles on the inside. There motion at sea is disconcerting as each wave hits the boat twice. and the "roamy" ones have terrible hull slap. They are unsafe to single hand on passages. They have 4 cabin layouts and shoal draft that suit the charter trade that has no need for seakeeping qualities. They are also popular with the thorny path crowd but that is mostly a motor cruise whom would probably be better off in a trawler.

    • @rogerspinks3142
      @rogerspinks3142 8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Boy are you not the opinionated one and it' obvious you could never afford a catamaran. Every time you open your mouth your bad mouthing someone's choice for something you don't have.

    • @ParrotSailor
      @ParrotSailor 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Roger Spinks Everyone has opinions and catamaran's are no more expensive than mono's. Boats are sold by the pound not the foot. But thanks for your opinion Roger and have a nice day. but just for your future edification most cats are built for the charter trade where 4 cabins can be crammed in around a center entertainment area which is ideal for that purpose.. If cats were the evolution of sailboats we would hardly see new mono's at all especially over 40 feet but the exact opposite is true in fact. Cats are a niche market that caters to charter trade and protected area "marina queen" use primarily. Non sailors types and often like the limited heel aspect because they don't understand that heel is a boats "pressure relief valve" for spilling excessive force whereas a cat just flips over. In any kind of weather cats in fact have a poor motion as the wave hits 2 hulls with offsetting force causing a confusing motion and often a horrible"slap" between the hulls. So Roger as you can see I know a bit about naval architecture. If you want to debate the subject then great but leave the playground name calling at home.
