Oh shit, thanks so much for the tips on my idea! I think I’m definitely going to be borrowing that Fm into G#dim turnaround idea, and the fade out thing makes a lot of sense... not sure why 2016 me was trying to make it a repeating chorus riff lol. Stoked to see more from this series!
For what it's worth I think it would also work fine as a chorus, it's a bit busy but that's not exactly an issue in metal. If you're having trouble writing a way out there's also the classic "whole band just hits a big downbeat and then rests for a couple beats, then launches into something completely different" technique, just as much of a cop out as a fade but with the advantage of being able to work just about anywhere in a song as long as you don't overuse it. It's a cool riff, so I'm sure whatever you do with it will turn out great!
Ayy, we meet again😅 cool riff tbh. Idk when my submissio will show up cuz I think I either gave too late if he's going from earliest to latest and too early if he's going latest to earliest lmao.
If it were me, I'd keep the riff with a simpler drums and harmonize it and then move towards a blastbeat with the harmonized riff and then ascend higher to a halt and break.
@@TheSquareOnes Thanks for this and for the kind words, that's also a very good point re the stop into downbeat trick - I find it can be tough to not fall into overusing that, but I suppose it could also totally be something like chorus - stop - verse - ... - chorus into solo into fadeout too. Either way, lots to work with - cheers!
@@lemniscatusofficial We do meet again :D I did submit mine super early (right after Ep 1 dropped) so perhaps that's the order he's going in. But a harmony could also be fun and keep things more interesting to the listener, especially if I maybe keep the groupings the same but ascend the scale with a subsequent repeat or something. Will def try out! Also you should join Dean's discord if you haven't already, there's a solid community on there and I feel we keep running into each other on Archspire content lmao
Got to agree with others that this is a cool series to follow 👍🏻 The same i can say also for the series where Dean and Claire learn new riffs from other bands. Thanks to those i have found couple of new bands as well to listen such as Inferi, The zenith passage, Spawn of possession, Necrophagist, The beyond creation, The first fragment and so on :o and the song bleed the future was probably also another key for me to get interested with these other bands as well :D thanks Dean and Claire, really cool :)
Bleed the future is quickly becoming my favorite album of all time! I need to know is the ending riff/solo of acrid canon based on anything classical? It is has free real estate in my head...
I loved your take on these, the original products were already quite good, in my opinion, and I enjoyed what you added. Also, I'm currently wearing the same Mario shirt you have on in the video, nice! 🤘
Fade outs r ok in very narrow circumstances. It has to work well with the progression of the song and the flow into the next track. I like necrophagist way of leave out the same door u came in. An intro riff that doesnt get repeated anywhere in the song....except that its also tbe outro. Kinda lazy bit it works better than the fade.
Hey Dean! Greetings from Mexico bro! I enjoy a lot your vids, you can learn a lot of how improve your gtr skills. Btw I love that guitar tone, which plug in do yo recommend?
The man did a fade out while explaining not to use too many fade outs. Dean always finds a way to bring the class. Classy 'n shit.
Daniel Batista really nailed the black metal ambience with the recording quality/tone.
Yes. I like. Metal is slick as two dicks nowadays and I hate that shit.
I love this series. So many good songwriting tips.
Yes, for non song writers. It's like the Blind leading the blind.
@@Charlie_Chicago what did you mean by that?
Suggesting adding a D-section for the dude that's inspired by dissection is some next level comedy mr Lamb, well done
That fade out explanation of the fade out riff was top notch my dude
I like the idea of giving the listener some credit

Your content is always a pleasure to watch, Dean.
I expected a second fade out to end the video. Cmon Dean the slam dunk “too many fade-outs not enough ideas for endings” gag was RIGHT THERE!!
Im using all of these ideas
Dean, I fuckin love this series. Super helpful to get me out of my box and think about things differently. Thank you.
Excellent tips on the audience guessing where it is going and being predictable, so true
2:37 idk if that was a “dissection” pun but I loved it anyway
My interest in these videos is 1% for the musical insight and 99% for the changing text form visual gags
This was a good video I like very much, thanks Dean Lamb of Archspire
That was sick. Especially the last one. 🤘🏽
These are fun and really interesting, more please!

MASSIVE thank you, from somebody who just got into writing!
This was super cool. Thank ya
This is just the best.
Great ideas for the second part (chord strumming) of the first riff
Bleed the future is quickly becoming my favorite album of all time!
I need to know is the ending riff/solo of acrid canon based on anything classical? It is has free real estate in my head...
Best soundbite 'I like a c section' 🤣🤣🤣
I learn so much from watching your videos.
ahh man totally gotta submit something now.... Love your channel man!
this is fantastic, really cool way to interact with your audience.. h. cheers
Love you for doing these shnookums.

MORE OF THESE!! super helpful.
More of this. Holy fuck
I gotta get back into writing...
Great video, Dean. Solid ideas.
I like how you basically suggested the first riff transition into the Rugrats theme tune haha
That new videos serie is very awesome!
That fucking ENDING!
Just my 2 cents, but I think this is your best content.
Love this series!
@2:35
Dean: I'd like a C-section 😬😬😱
he also wants a D-issection

Works really well if your song is sort of "cyclical" in theme. Drapery Falls by Opeth is a good example
@@RohannvanRensburg V good song.
The fake out fade out was classy LMAO
Great stuff Dean!
Youre a sick songwriter, but thats obvious. Love this
Hey Dean! Greetings from Mexico bro! I enjoy a lot your vids, you can learn a lot of how improve your gtr skills. Btw I love that guitar tone, which plug in do yo recommend?
The ending to the first one sounded like the legendary beasts theme in Pokemon Crystal
Great content, mate! Keep it coming
Sick series
Dean's motto: speak softly and carry an 8 string!
Also: be small.
LOL - the fade out in the video while talking about having to many fade outs means you don't have ideas on song endings. Nicely done.
I have that same Mario shirt 💕💜
and the series was never seen again
Very good playing guitar 🎸. Rock 🔥🔥
I’d love to submit a riff I’ve had in mind for years. What can I used to tab it out for you? Looking forward to some feedback from from you :)
Hey mate, guitarpro is the way to go
Tuxguitar is not as good as Guitar Pro but is free and will have the functionality you need.
Nice fade out
So rad
Dean quit playing with my expectations!
I’m late again, fuck. I really like this series. 🤘🏻
Question.. Does it have to be a Death Metal riff? I have something more along the lines of math rock that I’m trying to work on.
Do it.
To Daniel Batista: Listen to Ihsahn solo work, it will definitely give you a lot of cool ideas!
@DanielBx Start with the album "After".
Lamb’s Chops. Hilarious.
Hope you been well brother
What Noise Gate are you using, and how are you using it?
Box. Stomp.
i love you dean
Both better songs/riffs than I've managed to write 😂
new episode please!
It needs more cow bell 🔔
what are you using to tab what there playing ?
How do we submit ideas
Second half of that riff sounds like Extol.
And their one good record?
I sent you something like a month ago haha
Think I'm gunna KMS tonight
welp rip series
Dean is looking a little saturated today!
I skip thru the video and land on some 144p black metal riff every single time.....
You look very albino with your new light set up Dean. That or you’re just really Canadian…
Awesome stuff, Dean.
