This video shows Tim at his best. It's a long video but he is present in the moment the whole time and it is just a pleasure to follow along his thought processes. His passion for learning, for ritual, for tea, and for travel are so strong and you can just tell how pleased he is to be doing this show. His analogies with wine are also spot on. Great stuff.
Great interview. Q for Tim or others: what if you have too much time? Or a lot of extra time? How do you fill it effectively and deal with the constant worry of not using it efficiently?
That's a good question Samuel. If you don't currently speak any other languages, that is something that take time and also is really stimulating. I bought a 3 cd series to listen to while I drive, and a workbook for when I'm home in addition to flash cards. If you're looking for a good physical challenge and have some extra money, I would really suggest checking out crossfit. It is a great thing...and there is plenty to learn with cf as well.
I like Tim Ferriss's analogy: tea is a practice, akin to meditation or yoga that allows greater focus with more calm. Pu-erh represent! Thanks for sharing more about what Pu-erh should and should not taste like.
Oooo thanks Jesse it's so awesome and as I'm so detail-orientated I think my next obsession will be tea. I was previously really into discovering afternoon teas like Ceylon etc but now I'm going to look into these loose leaf tea varieties... ☕💕☕💕☕💕
I've been re-watching some of your talks and videos, from a few years back you have been a big inspiration and opened up the world of tea to new dimension for me. I'm just quite surprised you have not made the connection to practice a vegan lifestyle when you already follow a spiritual one. Personally, I'm shocked at myself for not having seen the contradiction in how I was living earlier on. This is in no way to have a dig at you, I'm just intrigued if you ever considered or looked into veganism at all? If not, I highly recommend Gary Yourofsky's Best Speech, well worth anyone's time. All the best.
What is the first green tea? like in the opening credits? it looks so vibrant and amazing. is there any possible way someone can tell me very specifically what it is?
Turmeric tea? I guess that could work, if it was with some spice and maybe even a bit of salt. Turmeric has a nice flavour (after you get used to it), but it needs the bitterness reduced somehow.
Rawmilk isn't illegal in most of the world, that's absolutely wrong. In Europe it's the standard, all good cheese is made of raw milk, you can buy it anywhere.
Since you use Russian word "samovar" for your vlog, I think you'd like to know one more funny thing. Well-known Japanese tea called "maccha", and the Russian word "моча" which is being pronounced the same and means "urine"
"almost any high quality tea can be brewed with boiling water" ...um...WRONG! to be fair, they made exception for senchas, but even so, any green or white tea which can be brewed via boiling water is going to be the exception rather than the rule.
Seems like Samovar Tea is bored. Very strange when you turn off the sound and just look at his face. Maybe Samovar Tea was worried that day about something else.

Great overview and crash course for beginning tea drinkers! Two thumbs up!
Finally about 11:00 minutes in, we start to talk about tea....
+bumblesby But don't skip a really neat part discussing priorities and deliberate thinking, Tim at 9:50 "The easiest way to speed up is to slow down."
Great video Tim and Jesse. A lot of great info here! Ill be up to visit soon from LA. I have been wanting to check out Samovar!
looks like there is an awkward tension between the two. Interesting dynamics..

Jesse's either very very bored and feigning interest with smiling or he's fantasizing about making out. :) :)
not one samovar in sight....
The sound when they take a sip made me uncomfortable.
I am Japanese though normally Japanese don't make that big sound.
Please don't imitate them.
lol i noticed tim does a lot of touching.
