Even as a Georgia fan there is a sense of loss with Saban’s retirement. He has been such a powerful and familiar presence in college football. There will never be another like him.
Kirby and Nick always had a brotherly bond. Never really mad at each other. Truly the end of an era

I’ve always had respect for Kirby as well, but I’ve lost some of that respect for him after seeing how he’s trying to take full advantage of the current situation at Alabama with Nick Sabans retirement. He’s trying to pick apart the team before Deboer has even had a chance to get settled in.

He was always a Dawg, just did a great job while he was under Saban at Bama. Gotta love him no matter where he is. I accept him as a family friend but I would go as far calling him family lol.

@crazcane Bama fans, we will miss him , Coach Saban is the GOAT of CFB, Bama fans will always appreciate and love Coach Smart and much respect what he has done after Coach Richt. Not gonna be the same without Saban or never be the same, He definitely took our program from tough times in 2006 to a Dynasty. Just hate who will have to replace Saban.
@kennethfulk8312 I'm a Hurricanes fan and I'll miss him. He changed the game. Changed thousands of kids' lives for the better. Molded our current HC which gives me great hope for our own program being built the way he built Bama. He's an icon.

Nick Saban within his first 8 years at Alabama he won 4 championships.
Kirby Smart his first 7 years 2 championships .
Unfortunately kirby has already fell behind if KIRBY doesn’t win it all this next season then he will be 2 championships behind NICK in the 8 years.
By the time Kirby puts in 17 years at Georgia he will need at least 4 more championships.

Kirby was born in Montgomery, got his first coaching job interview in Mobile and his life changed completely in Tuscaloosa.
He played at UGA and won back to back championships at UGA

Kirby was raised in Georgia,played for Georgia and got his first coaching opportunity at Georgia.His life changed while working for Saban at LSU and Miami.
Kirby is and always will be LOVE BY THE TIDE AND ALL ITS FANS. SAME WITH LANE. NICK, KIRBY AND LANE. THATS WHEN WE WERE THE REAL DEAL. RTR4L.

Not a unique comment, but “as a Georgia fan” I’m bummed as hell about Saban leaving. He’s the greatest coach I’ve ever seen and I enjoyed his press conferences/radio shows etc as much as the games. There’s a hole in the SEC now that simply cannot be filled.
I'm an avid Oklahoma sooner fan. But I wanna congratulate. Nick Sabin excitement for everything. He's done to make college football. What it is today. He has been a leader, a follower and a very successful coach. God bless you and hope you have a great and long retirement with many years to enjoy in your life..

I am now a Dawg Fan! As an old man 71 years old and always a Bama fan always loved Kirby and his unwavering Loyalty while at Alabama. No broken rules with NCAA something that prior to Saban and Kirby arriving had but they were clearly demanding excellence with the athletes. I will always wish Kirby the best! He’s a man’s Man !. Many National Championships will be won under Kirby!

As much flak as Saban gets, it’s a bittersweet moment to see him leave- he really challenged the SEC to better itself to take him on. Will miss hating on him, that’s for sure. XD #ThankYouNick

I am sure Kirby is ok with it. he loves Nick and he knows his future is bright and I feel Kirby has no issue with the loss now. Kirby will always know Bama was his best challenge and georgia was nicks. Mutual admiration and respect between the coaches and dare I say fan bases. i still think georgia belonged in CFP and had they got washington they would have beat them and michigan. During Sabans career he never had recruiting violations or broke any NCAA rules in order to win, unlike some other coaches I won't name. Big Nick taught him well.
When Kirby Smart was DC at Alabama, their defense was dominate. Teams didn't want to play Alabama because of their dominance. Kirby Smart will be the Nick Saban for Georgia. I respect him and wish him well.
I have been blessed in.my life to witness the careers of some of the best football coaches in history. Bear Bryant, Nick Saban, and probably Kirby Smart.

Looking up the history, which I didn't know the specifics of........Saban kept Kirby as D coordinator for a long time. His OCs move on faster.
Truth be told I think Kirby Smart and Georgia's dynasty are one of the reason's Sagan chose to retire . I also think Alabama got lucky in their win against Georgia this year . Georgia clearly had a better team all season and missed a few opportunities to win that game .
Kirby made a mistake playing two injured players for too long. He should have sat McConkey and Bowers the second half. Too much talent on the team to have done that, and ultimately I feel like it costed them that game.

Smarts buyout at UGA was 5 mill. Sweeneys buyout at Clemson was 9 mill. Kiffin hasn't been at ole miss but what, 2 - 3 seasons so his buyout was high, Norvell at FSU buyout was probably high because he's only been at FSU 2 seasons ? Texas coach Sarkin was staying at Texas. There were no southern school power coaches much available to go to Alabama.
