Thank you for the amazing video. I've been collecting kits for a year or so and I thought I remembered getting a Nieuport, and checking the stack, I see I have the same model! Very excited to build this and hope to have as good results as you've had. Beautifully crafted, excellent flier.
Great job in every aspect. I loved the flight where it flew a large circle and landed near you and rolled to a stop almost at your feet. Thanks for all the work that you put into sharing this experience with all of us. Have a wonderful day!
What a beautiful build And such lovely flights. I had this kit as a kid but didn't have the skill to build it and the knowledge to trim and flow it but after watching this I have renewed enthusiasm.
This video is perfect in itself. I love this prototype, it's a great model, beautiful work perfect flight and my aesthetic is completely satisfied! Thx!!!
I never knew the Guillow kits could actually fly so well. Looks like the key is lightening up the build. I have this kit in a box in my basement. Not sure if all the parts are still there but I think its time to dust it off :)
Well l’m impressed. l made a couple of these balsa planes in my youth, as l remember they flew a couple of feet, but they did look great. l take it you used the rubber band from the kit, and you seem to be adding some ball bearings to the engine.
I commend Guillows for still producing kits like this and I've built my share. However, as a scratch builder I prefer to draw my own plans because kits generally produce heavy models. The Neiuport is one of my favorite WWI biplanes. Yours looks great.
Great job on the removal of excess weight, and you’re braver than me: I would never fly over such short grass! So, I’ll never see such a fabulous landing !
@@TheMwarrior50 The first thing is to make it exactly according to the plan. ・CG ・Dihedral angle ・Down thrust ・Angle of attack And make it light. That's all I can say.
Yes, a shelf is where this one belongs. Beautifully built and finished, it looks great. Fly? Well, not so much. You did a great job lightening it, but you didn’t alter the terrible and inefficient airfoil which does not produce sufficient lift for good flight. You want some up elevator, and/or an increase of top wing incidence (more decalage), and/or some up thrust, and/or a farther forward C.G., or a few prayers to the flight gods, or maybe all of these to get it to climb. All the increase of turns of the motor did was to make it go faster and fly farther away in a larger circle. Even if by some miracle you did get some altitude, once the propellor stopped, this airplane would have “glided” like a stone. Well, at least you’ll never have to fear it catching a thermal and flying away. No D/T wanted for this one. Guillows models do not fly well on rubber power, and any other power makes them fly too fast. With an electric or glow motor they flit around like a drunken mosquito. Such a shame. Try a different brand of kit like Dumas or Dare. These models can actually fly. Cheers.
@@stevejohnson3991 Regarding airfoils for free flight, there are any number of successful FF aeroplanes that have proven to be good performers. I suggest adopting the airfoil from one of these. My current favourite is the undercambered airfoil used in the Lanzo Bomber, but many other excellent ones also work just fine. However, in addition to a well-designed and well-built wing, the overall proportions, balance, integrity, and lightness of the airframe, careful tweaking of the relative angles of the wing(s) and stabilizer, attention to the thrust angle of the motor as well as the size and pitch of the propeller, are all necessary to produce a good-flying FF airplane. I think that at least R/C rudder control is a good idea for most high-performing FF models. The unpredictable vicissitudes of the wind being what they are, such control will prevent a flyaway or at least an anxious search and a long hike, not forgetting the seemingly malicious magnetic attraction of trees and other nasty vertical obstructions. Purists will disagree, of course, but if a flight is going well, you can ignore the R/C rudder control. However, if all is not going well, prompt and judicious use of it may save your model. Some opine that achieving successful FF is as much an art as a science, and I agree, but some luck and a lot of patience have their place in it as well.
@@stevejohnson3991 Regarding useful FF airfoils, any airfoil used on a successful, well-performing FF model ought to work fine. My current fave is the undercambered airfoil used on the Lanzo Bomber, but there are many other excellent ones to choose from. Any of these would be better than the Guillows’ ones. One caveat for scale FF modelers, scaling down from a larger wing plan and/or airfoil is fraught with many aerodynamic problems that are likely to be antithetical to good model performance. The reasons for this are too lengthy to go into here, but there are many sources available on this subject that bear some looking into if you are contemplating using a scaled-down version of a full-scale airfoil. There are, as always, exceptions to this such as the Clark Y series which seems to work well no matter the scale. Some very good videos on TH-cam about choosing airfoils for models also might be well to look into.
