This somewhat more romanticized performance is a very excellent take on Gershwin's concerto... a good contrast to the Oscar Levant example... I like both versions very much... thanks for posting!
OscarLevant, Robert Marcus with jazztrio and Berliner under Osawa : all fantastic and THIS version is lush, warm and not only the emphasis on the glitter.... I love it !!! both pianist AND orchestra
Lacks that uniquely American-New York-Tin Pan Alley Gershwin. With Gershwin's more serious works the artist needs to go back and grasp the composer's cultural roots and how working Tin Pan Alley affected his later writings. Not many actually "Get" Gershwin in this sense. Michael Tilson Thomas gets it and a few others but it's amusing and a bit annoying to hear Europeans miss the mark all the time. Wisps of the 2nd Rhapsody and American in Paris can be heard throughout this piece. As in all serious music much more is needed beyond hitting the notes.
He's not European. He is Canadian. And the clearly "non-jazzy" approach here is intentional. Listen to his Kapustin and you will know that he is capable of swinging if he chooses
Gran expresividad. Sin aspavientos ESTE PIANISTA LLEGARÁ MUY LEJOS.
He already did

I'm grateful to hear American music played in Europe --ours is a different sound as we all know---maybe they too like the difference as well.

Google how to clean your ears...if you don't, you'll miss so much music MAH, the genius has to offer! SERIOUSLY!
It is always the same with this pianist: technically extremely talented but zero charisma! [artistically]
berlinzerberus I respect your opinion but please at least have a little knowledge before you opine!
