Nice video, it really opened my eyes to the limitations of open diff. I have a 2001 Tundra that I bought with 21,000 miles too. I have factory diff in mine, so your video showed me I've been pretty naive about how 4x4 works and I've been pushing my luck over the years. I'm fortunate that I haven't gotten myself stuck way out in the middle of nowhere all by myself. lol
Great video & content brother. Got to V rock & chickened out (4x4 sr5 tacoma longbed on 33s). Saving for my regear and arb front & rear diff lock while things are apart. Zoo li nej mus ua si lom zem kawg.
Lockers win over articulation. For argument's sake, four tires on a 5,000-lb. truck see 1,250 lbs. of load. If that truck lifts a tire off road, the other three tires now see a 1,667 lbs. of load. Lockers take advantage of that redistribution of friction. Articulation helps for sure, but it's harder to achieve.
@@theotherguy3083 Holy mackeral - that's impressive. I've looking for a front bumper with full protection for 4runner; winch not required. Obviously, you have some welding skills - good for you. Regardless, I saw your bumper and thought, "Man, that's it!" Good job. Keep it up. Thank you for your fast response. Subscribed.
@@theotherguy3083 Well like I said, you're gifted. I'm a clutz and too old right now to start. Plus, where I am I have limited space and time. I did see a video of you teaching your son. God Bless - that's a wonderful skill to have. You are giving him a great gift. Carry on!
Nice video!! Am certainly enjoying my truck that is now fully locked. E locker front and rear. Question though. Are you in 4LO when you are making those climbs like at Bald Mountain?
Yes lockers good. Yes lockers expensive. I know the limits of my Tacoma. I don't do rock gardens because they are for vehicles that have been set up for rock crawling. If you rock crawl then lockers are a good thing and worth them money. Other wise, they are about $3k for ARB's front and rear. I will take the bypass.
Show off 😂 2 more years and yours and mine will be antiques. I would love to see a taco-box gear reduction on this setup I see guys that have them idle up obstacles with ease. Probably saves gas also on long trails.
The spartan in front you will notice that it wants to go straight all the time. However, I don't notice any difference other than noticing that it will bind on asphalt roads. But on rock roads you are ok.
@@theotherguy3083 cool cool - I'm considering going with a truetrac in the rear, then throwing a spartan in the front for when things get ugly. I won't do many dedicated trails for this vehicle. Mainly just farm/ranch use, muddy pastures, and dirt and gravel roads. I figure what's the worst that can happen for $350?
Best demo I've seen yet of the different locker applications. Great terrain for the tests.

Awesome truck! I have an 03’ and want to get some lockers. Are you running stock lower ball joints? If so, how do they do in the terrain?
Yes sir. Stock lower Bj. What I discovered after 2 broken BJs is that always use OEM BJs. The two that broke were auto zones and O'Reilly BJs.
Good to know, thanks for the quick reply. I’ll keep using OEM and not worry! I love your truck and your set up, nice work!

Everything you see here, I built.

35

Is there any FJ or 4runner E-locker swap that would work?
No sir, they aren't the same size and 4runners and fjs diffs are made to stand the torque of the 4.7v8
What locker is it on the front
@user-bh3xn9oj2i at the time, I had spartan locker. Now i have airlockers on both front and rear
Do you break more cvs with a spartan locker in the front?
Never have.
