  • Cement Mixer Restoration Disassembly P2 . I restore a cement / concrete mixer from the late 50's/early 60's. This part of the restoration is about the detailed disassembly, the drive rotational parts, gears, shafts and pullies.
    🎯Subscribe: th-cam.com/users/Catfish6...
    The mixer was picked up by my father in the early 60's. The cement / concrete mixer has seen a lot of work and abuse from many members of the family. It is time to get it running again. I will start with the GE Electric Motor then move on to Jack shaft, Brake, Yoke, Drum.
    Lots of work to do.

    Had one just like this!! Replaced hit-miss engine with electric motor and building a couple brick buildings, then finally installed a modern gas engine. Ended up giving it to some peeps in Mexico rebuilding after the earthquake. Keep it up, this is a GREAT machine.

      Wow the only two in existence. There is enough room for both the motor and a gas engine. Thanks Dwight.

    Very good presentation . I have a a much older John Deere 400A. One small tip, put the the nut back on before knocking a threaded shaft. That way you are hitting the nut, and saving the threads.

    Watching youtubes like RR to relax & pass the time today while we still have power... Dorian is heading straight for us. We are dead center of the 130 mph wind zone, and the 4+ inches of rain. Fingers crossed.
    Randy, really cool to have a project with a long family history. Strange to think of a cement mixer as a family aireloom & antique, but that's exactly what it is. And soon it will be ready to keep on serving the family for another 60+ years.
    Cheers!

    G’day Randy looks like the yoke bearings are a challenge, possibly line bore it with a dummy bearing in one yoke to support the boring shaft and the other end supported by another external bearing / bush mounted to a frame clamped to the yoke. Have a look at how people machine earth moving equipment bushings in-situ for inspiration.
    Cheers

    Coming along nicely👌, I wonder if the yoke bearings were babbit

    • @RRINTHESHOP
      @RRINTHESHOP  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks Clarke. There were no bearings, cast iron on cast iron. I am tempted to put in bearings. But I have no way of machining the journals on the yoke. There is a slight amount of wear on the bottom of the bearing housing and a small amount of wear on the journals.

    • @windyhillfoundry5940
      @windyhillfoundry5940 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@RRINTHESHOP I wonder if you could get away with line reaming these with the caps bolted back on. But then you have the roundness condition of the yokes ends to contend with if you added shim bearing material. My great grandfather used leather as bearing material for a bearing surface on a cane mill I have and it held up great. I guess he saturated it with grease prior to assembly. I would try that no more than it will swing, id even mix in graphite with the grease

    • @RRINTHESHOP
      @RRINTHESHOP  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I will show all the issue there. This would be a big job and I don't have the equipment to do what is really necessary. The journals and a bit out of round and tapered all due to wear, I could bore and the bearing caps and make a bronze bearings, I would make them with tapers to self align. The journals would need to be turned, that is where the big problem would be. I need Brian Block to set up in his big lathe to turn true. Now I like the leather idea, I will look at that.
