  • "Bike Gods Must Be Crazy" is an annual alleycat event that took place on August 6th 2023. I followed Mickael, who ended up finishing 3rd overall, and first in the open- fixed gear category. 27 racers took part and it was a tonne of fun. A big thanks to all the organizers, volunteers and sponsors who made this all possible. All proceeds from the race went towards "foodshare toronto", a food justice organization.
    Race details:
    -Race began at Bickford Park.
    -There was 1 manifest with 11 checkpoints. Each checkpoint was a local Toronto bike shop and you had to take a selfie in front of the storefront.
    -End location was Riverdale East Park.
    -Our time was 1hr 11 minutes, and our route was 27.1km
    Race Winners:
    -First place WTFNB-Fixed: Sonia (and first overall)
    -First place Open-Fixed: Mickael
    -First place WTFNB-Geared: Rosie
    -First place Open-Geared: Isaac

      That hill from Davenport to st clair they did wasnt that bad ,caledonia/dufferin/christie/bathurst/spadina and Avenue are some of the hardest hills to get up to stclair

    • @358Narada
      @358Narada  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@carlobrigante881 yeah. Anything between christie and dufferin isn't as brutal for sure. Poplar plains is probably the worst. But Avenue is the scariest because of all the cars going full tilt!!

      It's definitely more of a scavenger hunt than a traditional race. Doing well in alleycats also relies on knowledge of the city, routing and on the fly decision making rather than speed!

    I remember when we only allowed actual working bike messengers to race. Who are these clowns? This is exactly why I stopped doing alleycats. Much like the rest of mess-culture, its been co-opted by wannabees and posers.
    Lame.

    • @358Narada
      @358Narada  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      For sure. A lot of Toronto alleycats are still planned and run by bike messengers actually. And I would say a majority of those who race them are messengers. The person in this video is a messenger as well, as am I

      @@ItsBunChaalthough it sounds like typical old head you have soft hands rookie, he is kinda right, a lot of the non messenger that show up just saw some videos and want to show off, the same kind that create bad situations with bad riding
