    General Overview of 4 VR Plugin
    1) Steam VR 1:13
    - Robust Interaction System, lots of feature
    - Build in Input system
    - Great for Prototype
    - Not a good starting point for student, can be overwhelming
    2) Oculus 5:54
    - Hand Tracking + Controller Interaction system
    - Difficult to organize, contain functionality that are outdated.
    - Can be overwhelming
    3) VRTK 10:30
    - 3rd party solution build on top of Oculus/SteamVR
    - Can break when underlying provider update
    4) Unity XR ToolKit 11:45
    - Light weight, barebone, can be extended
    - Doesn't have as much build in functionality
    - In transition phase to new XR plugin framework, can be confusing

      I saw the whole video - and I thought - time to write a Overview - thank you @ringokam101

    • @jussivalter
      @jussivalter 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Unity XR does not change anything in terms of issue of other 3th party systems like VRTK. Unity XR is based Oculus, SteamVR etc aswell as VRTK and if something changes on these systems, it will break.
      Its all about how active developer of input system (VRTK, Unity XR) is in terms of updates. And ehat I know, Unity is maybe more active, but also more confunsing because it tends to rewrite and change everything so often, so this is not necessary a good thing at all.

    Thanks for another great video Andrew! I needed this advice very much right now and luckily someone recommended it... l bypassed it before thinking it would be more for complete beginners... I think another title might be better, eg pros + cons of vr toolkits, like you mentioned it’s hard to know which way to turn once you’ve done the basics and want to dive deeper... you shine the light!

    • @VRwithAndrew
      @VRwithAndrew  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Naming is hard! Since it's a series, I needed something a bit more universal. This is just a much more exhaustive series when it comes to the explanations of things.

    • @tomasOneStill
      @tomasOneStill 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I was trying to make ovr play nice with vrtk and bent it one way to get one thing then bend it back to get something else... getting horrible. Your video made me realize there’s no magic to these toolkits, rewriting it from scratch was by far the best solution 👍

    Useful to hear a bit about the similarities & differences between some of the tools - this is the thing that's been confusing me a bit as someone new to VR dev. Would be interested to hear any opinions on how the "VR Interaction Framework" (on the Unity Asset Store by Bearded Ninja Games) compares and where it fits in this landscape.

    • @VRwithAndrew
      @VRwithAndrew  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I haven't tried actually developing with it, but I have tried the sample scene that's publically available to test/play.
      It certainly provides great functionality. But, with a lot of plug-ins you're putting a lot of trust in that's it's going to be updated as Unity changes.
      Also, depending upon the plugin, it may be difficult to add on to or make changes for your project.

    The Oculus package has 2 hand tracking scenes which use different scripts but do the same thing. I even made a post in the official developer forum asked why they wrote the same things twice and which of these scripts we should use but they didn't answer.

    • @VRwithAndrew
      @VRwithAndrew  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, they can go a bit overboard with things. They are somewhat different though. One is more simple, and direct for doing basic hand functionality. The other works with a whole interaction system thats included if I remember correctly.

When i try Simple_Scene in SteamVR, Controlller not working and i always have other Error. When i try Oculus Prefabs, VR Screen is Freeze. When i try SteamVR Interaction Scene, Blackscreen..... In all Forum's No one can help me...

    • @VRwithAndrew
      @VRwithAndrew  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      This doesn't use either of those options. Most likely, you may not have the proper supporting software installed. If install SteamVR and use this setup, there is a good chance it would work for you.
