I generally don't respond to negative, uninformed assumptions or comments but given what we've just endured - UNASSISTED - I trust you'll eat your words during the full length film.
The bikes were completely stock 2014 500EXC's. We put 80km on them near the factory in Mattighoffen, then they changed the oil for us and I assume they used Motorex Oil. We did 2500km before finding a KTM dealership in Istanbul, who sold us some more Motorex and I changed the oil myself using filters we had as spares. Next Oil change was done in Sharm El Sheik at 5500km. We left the same oil filters in them and rode the final 1500km through the deserts like this.

I bought a copy of this movie in HD and really enjoyed it. Brilliant ride and just amazing how much you guys managed to put into the movie being "on your own".
I then went and bought Motonomad II right away and that's even better! I'm glad you guys have not made a 1000 movies because I would be broke......

Hey, how did you make the services on the journey for oil, filters, and ventiles??
Good question.
Oil change is 1.5l. Carry that oil in a spare metal bottle like rtwpaul & doesn't need changing as often as ktm says. There are dealerships & motorbike shops everywhere. Europe isn't a deserted wasteland 👌🏾

I was into motorcycles when I was younger, then only rode mountain bikes most of my adult life. I watched too many KTM videos and ended up buying a 500 EXC.

i would like to have a mate to doo long trip like that...
I had the remote around my neck with the throttle set on full with velcro. I crashed the drone a couple of times because it was so hard to pick the changes in ground altitude over a long distance. The blue bag on my back was mostly occupied with the drone case. Lightweight, but a little bulky ... and yes, you will see some behind the scenes at the end of the movie.

Hey Adam, You confirm what we know - the 500EXC is the ultimate real off-road adventure bike, mine has crossed the Little and Great Sandy Deserts of WA unsupported! So much better to be on a light fuel efficient bike, opens up so much more of the world......

It was a XAircraft X650 Pro I saw it in one of the shots. It has a height control by GPS so all you would have to do is set it to go forward, sideways etc and take off and ride under it, then land it. If it gets out of reach of the radio it will go back to the point of take off... RTH (Return To Home) feature.

Awesome edit. I once rode through the jungle and mountains in Indonesia for 4 months without a map on my own and really wish I had made a video like this about it. To think that is your life continuously is unreal. The feeling I got from that trip left me feeling like I can die a happy man. What a life u have created for yourself. Congratulations mate

I've just ridden a KTM690 from London to Sydney, by changing the oil twice and replacing a couple of fuel pumps that got clogged with crappy fuel. My experience is the KTM690, with 10,000 k service interval is the bike for this stuff. The 500 requires regular oil changes, the other maintainenance is minor in the first 7000ks. Clearly, your perception is not the reality.
theres a guy on youtube thats going to do or did a world tour with ktm 500 i believe and he says that the oil changes are not the problem, you just have to be a little prepared

Dang that looks fun but I wonder how they changed their oil and checked their valves on the trip.
They actually show it. They stopped ad dealerships or mechanics shops and just did it on the roadside. 7000km is not a distance that will blow up your engine, the maintenance you have to do can mostly be done with basic tools in some desert garage.
People today are way to afraid to realize that there is always ways out when things go bad.
A friend of mine once showed me a pictures of his ural sidecar bike, with the entire engine taken apart on a blanket on the roadside in rural ukrain. They had some major issue on a trip, took the engine apart, tramped to the next village, waited two days for parts, tramped back and fixed the engine.
Hell, I will take that experience over a brand new GS1200 any day and twice on sundays.

Read some of the comments, i agree lets get over the BMW thing! I'm bored of it! Anyone who knows how to shoot film will know its possible to do it on your own with the right kit and know how which these guys have. GPS quadcopter, Gopro, DSLR and a tripod is all you really need. Keep em coming guys. 2k plus likes! sayes it all for me.
Would really have liked for you to share your cargo portage and rigging strategies and solutions. ... Oh, well ... I guess I'll stick with a DR650 ... Certainly plenty of cargo solutions there.

Something amazing Adam 7000 km or one country accounts for 1000 km. I see that the tanks had probably increased to 20 or 25 liters. And as exercised in KTM'a in these climates and conditions? KTM simply unbeatable!

I bought your movie and thoroughly enjoyed it. I found the scenery breathtaking, although why no 1080p version? The scenery would have been worth the price alone had there been a 1080p version. Overall though good job I hope to see more in the future, also it would have been nice to have a little more history on the amazing places you saw in the film.

Hi Adam, Exciting watch, have just purchased a 2017 EXC 450F 6 days, love the bike, but the service intervals are mad, every 15 hrs/500 miles, now thinking of selling, is this really required. going to use it on our motorx track a little but mainly for green lane and travelling to work.
have watched a guy on a EXC 500 planning on traveling around the world and your trip doing only 3 oil changes in 7k, so now not really sure what to do?
What an AMAZING video. What backpack is used and I wonder if it is comfortable. I am hoping to do this on local roads on a 400 EXC and a backpack would seriously increase my ability to carry gear. I would prefer not to fatigue myself.
I am also carrying a Wolfman Beta bag and a Giant Loop tank bag.

Did you put the DSLR camera also in the backpack? I'm starting out on motorcycle travel and i would love to bring a DSLR camera with 1 - max 2 lenses with me when i travel.

ouch dude... I have a Drift ghost and it recorded for 3 hours before the battery died... The video quality on the Gopro is a lot better then the drift but that means nothing if the battery is flat... Get an external power supply if they allow for it... You can get a 11k mah powerpack and record for days...
I'd like to understand how do you guys manage the maintenance work and that 8-10h narrow window? I've never taken a road trip so how do you even start? I rode about 10000km so far within and around my city on a versys650 but I've been looking at sumos lately 🤔 I'm just not a handyman. Any guidance or material to check?

Fantastic! I'd love to know more about the maintenance you did. I change the oil and filters on my 450 roughly every 10 hours. That's presumably like every other day if you do full days.
I just did a 6500 km trip over the summer on a kawasaki kle 500 from Poland to Moscow and back. It was the best experience in my life, although id love if there was more off road trails. This trailer looks absolutely amazing and I cant wait to see the full movie. When are you releasing it in 2014?
Using automotive perspective 7000km is nothing but an oil change interval ...maybe...but with high performance single cylinder motorcycle? 7000km? Already had to do maintenance to get her that far and at the end it's already time for some more serious maintenance ...especially if a lot of dirt work was in the mix....the downside of piling miles on an enduro bike
Great video, but one question. How much of this was off-trail? Looked like some of those high alpine shots weren't on a trail. Very delicate ecosystem up there!
Wonder if a good trials rider could ride straight up the side of a pyramid?? Would THAT be awesome OR WHAT? Millions of youtube hits might just make the arrest and penalty (big fine maybe?) worth while? WHO is gonna do it for us?
They most likely had several extra batteries charging via USB from their bikes while they rode.

KTM is not the only bike to travel around or through the world.
Yamaha, Honda, Kawasaki, Suzuki and some chinesse bikes, they do well.
If you want to travel on a bike, just do it.
Amazing adventure if you could share GPS routes you did I will start plucking for same trip next summer, see my 5 day adventure on dirt bike in ukraine Carpathian Mountains,:-)

Good movies, I watched both. One suggestion I'd give if I may. Music too loud in relation to narration resulting I had to operate volume level too often :)
