I legit thought that Claire was August and I just hadn’t seen her in so long that she’d changed her style radically enough I didn’t recognize her.

The scam in this run isn't that it's the wrong mod, it's actually that that's definitely not exponential growth

Exponential would say "double the increase" or something similar
@@andrewholmes5392 OP is right, the mathematical definition of exponential growth is a quantity whose derivative (growth rate) is proportional (i.e. a constant multiple of) to the quantity itself. If Claw's damage increase was proportional to the damage it delt, it would be exponential. As it stands, the damage increase grows linearly, and thus the damage itself will always grow quadratically at best.
In fact, even if you added another layer and the *increase* of the *damage increase* went up by 1 each time (i.e. instead of each claw accelerating the damage increase by 1, it accelerated it by 1, 2, 3, 4...) thereby making damage follow the tetrahedral numbers, it STILL wouldn't be exponential since that's just a cubic function. TL;DR no matter how many layers you add, it's still a polynomial and is not exponential. In order to be exponential, it must grow by a scalar multiple of itself, for example: "Deal 1 damage. double the damage of all claws." which was OP's suggestion.
Even something as subtle as: "Deal 1 damage. Increase the damage of all claws by 1% of this claw's damage." would be exponential as 1.01^(n-1) and eventually beat out any polynomial damage function (assuming you kept track of the decimals behind the scenes and rounded).
@@hiiistrex2838 The damage scaling is a triangular, so the nth claw deals is (n)(n+1)/2 which simplifies to (n^2)/2 + n/2

@@tehesprite502 "For ALL claws in your deck" is extremely misleading, particularly if you're thinking like a programmer. The word "for" in particular is unnecessary, remove it and the description becomes clearer already as to how it works.

This isn’t actually quadratic growth either. Quadratic growth would be if the damage increased by 1, then 3, then 5, and so on (odd numbers). But it increases by 1, then 2, then 3, etc, forming the sequence of 1,2,4,7, etc. This is sometimes called the Lazy Caterer’s Sequence (according to Google), but considering that I have a degree in Mathematics and I didn’t know that it was called that, I wouldn’t put it in the title of my video.
@@loudheart1607 The lazy caterers is a quadratic sequence, x = (n²+n+2)/2. The difference in increments doesn't need to be 2, it just needs to be constant

For those wondering, the formula for how much damage the Nth claw will do is 0.5N² - 0.5N + 2, meaning the scaling is actually quadratic
Alternative formula: 1+(n(n+1))/2

Not to be too pedantic, but neither of those are exactly the correct formula, nor are they the equivalent. 0.5n² - 0.5n + 2 would be assuming the base damage is 2 not 1, and 1+(n(n+1))/2 is modeling damaging for the n+1th claw, not the nth (i.e. indexed starting at 0)
The damage for the Nth Claw follows the the triangle numbers + 1 but delayed one claw, as the the 1st Claw has no increase at all. Said another way, playing the first Claw simply begins the sequence, thus when you play Claw n, you set Claw n+1's damage to the nth triangular number + 1 base damage.
Therefore the actual function is: 1+(n(n-1))/2

Until he plays 7 claws this mod nerfs claws. After 7 it it gets kind of silly compared to the normal version.

The overall damage of claws is already exponential. Total starts at 3, then goes to 8, then goes to 15, then goes to 24, then goes to 35, etc. It grows faster and faster.
Each step of an exponential multiplies itself. +5, +7, +9, +11 adds 2 each step but doesn't multiply. An exponential might go +5, +10, +20, +40
It's not already exponential in the base game, and it also isn't exponential in this mod. Exponential doesn't just mean growing faster and faster. In the base game, the damage of each claw grows linearly, x(n) = 2n + 3 (i'm counting the first claw as n=0 because it'd be annoying to write n-1 everytime), and the sum of all claws, which is what you're describing, grows quadratically, x(n) = n² + 4n + 3 . In this mod, the damage of each individual claw grows quadratically, x(n) = [n² + n + 2] / 2 , and the sum grows cubically (I don't want to write that one). What defines this is the term with the higher exponent. For a series to have exponential growth the exponent must be increasing, such as in x(n) = 2^n (Deal 2 damage, double the damage for the rest of combat) . People say "exponentially" as a word for really quick growths in general because yeah, it does grow a lot faster than the other examples here. The 10th Claw in StS deals 21 damage(120 total), the 10th Claw in the mod deals 46 damage(175 total), and the 10th Claw in this exponential example deals 1024(2046 total).
Finally, a cure for our claw withdrawal!

Frost unfortunately you're reading the card wrong. It's not "Increase damage and number of increase by X, where X = amount of Claws" It is "Increase Damage by 1 and Amount of Damage increased by 1, this scaling applies to all cards named Claw"
If it scaled the way you interpreted it, they would scale IMMENSELY faster. The math confuses me because it would have to do with how it would be coded and an order of operations thing, it could technically scale in more than one way depending on how it is coded.
