  • With a mint break in the weather, I head offshore to work the slow pitch jigs on outer reefs. I'm joined on this adventure by kayak fishing legend, Kerry Flowers. Enjoy!

    That pink maomao is part of the hapuka family so you basically got what you set out for.

      Not as stable as other yaks, but once you get the hang of it they're great.

    Eventually, after a protracted period of very average videos, a decent bloody kayak fishing video with decent hard fighting catches. Great watching

    Love your vids mate. Good to see kerry out there with ya. Kingfish is still my goal fish, based in wellington. What is that hanging out of the snapper always been curious?

    • @gpfishingadventures7834
      @gpfishingadventures7834  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Thanks mate!! Stick at it with those kings, warmer months are coming so you'll be in with a shot soon 🤙🏽 those are the snappers guts hanging out. Unfortunately when fishing in deeper water, snapper are susceptible to barotrauma which can result in their guts popping out like that. One of the big downsides of slow pitch fishing deeper water...

    Hey GP. Enjoyed the vid as always. Was wondering if you would be able to do a vid on your kayak setup? I notice you have moved from a paddle (viking) to a pedal (old town) and am considering it myself but wanted to weigh up the pros and cons. Seeing as you have put it through its paces, I wondered if that would be possible?

    • @gpfishingadventures7834
      @gpfishingadventures7834  9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Simon! One of these days I'll get around to doing a video on my kayak set up. Just struggle to find the time as I'm generally out fishing/diving every weekend!
      What sort of fishing do you do and what do you want to get out of your yak?

      Cheers for getting back to me GP. Largely inshore (within 3km), but have a Viking 400 which I really enjoy using but have seen them become more popular and I would like to head further offshore to some of the deeper pins like yourself. Ive been a bit worried about their weight getting them on my roof, and also of their setup for fishing compared to my viking. Thanks again mate@@gpfishingadventures7834

      Unless you're doing over 20km in a day, I'd say stick with a paddle yak. The PDLs are great for big days on the water, and they're definitely more efficient for traveling distances, but if you're just going to be doing 10-20km days, the paddle kayaks are better bang for buck. And they're more practical off the water for loading onto your car etc. @@simonsurfnz

      Good shout. Thanks GP. I have a viking 400 currently and it does the job on all fronts, but just have the itch to get out to deeper water and thought the pedal kayaks would be more efficient, but they look to be quite different boats and setups. Thanks for the thoughts@@gpfishingadventures7834

    Greg .. how is the speed of your ship compared to the old Profish?

    • @gpfishingadventures7834
      @gpfishingadventures7834  10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      It's great thanks. I generally average 5-7kmph all day. Whereas with my 440 I'd start the day at about 7 and end at about 4.

    Hey what would you recommend for a good slow pitch rod and lures? Ive got a spare 400 accurate slammer i want to setup on but have only slow pitched on charters. I fish that spot you at and far north a lot. Got a batch up there

    • @gpfishingadventures7834

      Hey mate. I'm currently using a Penn Battalion SPJ rod and it's worked a gem. Tbh, I'm pretty new to the SPJ game, so I don't have much to compare it to, but that rod is my go to at the mo. What sort of species you gonna target with it?
      Sweet spot that place. I'm jealous of your batch bro!

    • @Andre-yz4bx
      @Andre-yz4bx 9 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yep sweet, slow jigs don't normally work around where you were so just for the deep water stuff when kingies off the bite. To get the big snaps up there the best way is drop small livies on them
