Here's why tail docking became a thing:
1️⃣ 𝑯𝒊𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒊𝒄𝒂𝒍 𝑩𝒆𝒈𝒊𝒏𝒏𝒊𝒏𝒈𝒔: Centuries back, it was believed tail docking could prevent rabies, bolster a dog's spine, and even up its speed game. 💨
2️⃣ 𝑭𝒐𝒓 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝑾𝒐𝒓𝒌𝒊𝒏𝒈 𝑫𝒐𝒈𝒔: To prevent nasty injuries, tails of herding and hunting buddies were often docked. It saved them from getting tangled in thickets or getting trampled by livestock. 🐄 🐖
3️⃣ 𝗗𝗼𝗱𝗴𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗧𝗮𝘅𝗲𝘀: Yep, in 18th century England, a docked tail meant your dog was 'working,' letting owners sidestep those pesky luxury taxes. 💰
4️⃣ 𝗠𝗲𝗲𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗕𝗿𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗿𝗱𝘀: As years passed, certain breeds became synonymous with docked tails, pushing breeders to continue the trend. 🐶
5️⃣ 𝐀𝐥𝐥 𝐀𝐛𝐨𝐮𝐭 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤𝐬?: There's a viewpoint that nowadays, it's mostly about aesthetics rather than genuine health or occupational reasons. 🪞 💄

    Dog Tail Docking Unveiled
Historically, tail docking was believed to prevent rabies, strengthen the dog’s back, and increase its speed. While such beliefs have long been debunked, the practice has endured. In working breeds, tail docking was, and in some places remains, a measure to prevent tail injuries. As we traverse the timeline, we also touch upon the aesthetic reasons that have influenced breed standards in dog shows.
However, it’s crucial to understand the medical implications and the ongoing debate around the ethics of tail docking. Some advocate for the procedure, citing genuine health concerns in specific breeds. Simultaneously, numerous animal rights groups argue against non-therapeutic tail docking, calling for a more humane approach to our furry friends.

Besides that they can seriously injure themselves…. They swing their tale with so much force that they break their tales in multiple spots causing infection which would have you cut the tale off anyways. So you either cut the tale off when young and they dont even remember, or have them break their tale multiple times through out their lives suffering from pain and infections and possibly death, and if they do survive, you have to cut it off when they are older when all the nerves are matured and battered from wagging making it significantly more painful and traumatic. You dont remember getting circumcised, they dont remember getting their tales chopped

For an example like some dogs can get sore tails from wagging and can also cause hip problems so that’s why “they cut the tail”

@@lottatroublemaker6130 first of all, your grammar is so horrible i don’t even know what you are talking about… I’m guessing you are saying there is no recorded incident of a dog injuring its tail from wagging it up against objects? Well thats completely apocryphal… i have personally seen dogs with broken tail from wagging so that is completely asinine.

I fostered a rottweiler that would smear blood on the walls and particularly the door, when excited wanting to leave would always break his tail on everything around.

If a dogs tail gets injured and needs it, then do it, otherwise it can be a detriment. They have tails for a reason. As far as cosmetic, thats just ridiculous. It looks better when you take a body part away? I prefer the tails.

    • @Spined.Cerberus

For large dogs {cane corsos, Rottweilers, Doberman ext} it’s necessary to dock tails, if you don’t they could get happy tail causing them excruciating pain and months of healing rather than just getting it done. For smaller breeds I agree that you should NOT dock as it is just cosmetic.

😮😮😮 Why is it soo damn necessary to crop a dog's ears or dock a dog's tail for 🤔🤔🤔. I really don't understand why people crop dogs ears or dock dog's tail, it's not like it's medically needed for the dog to function properly ! ! !
IT'S NOT LIKE THE DOG HAS BEEN GIVEN ANY CHOICE IN THE MATTER HAVE THEY 🤨🤨🤨🙁😠😠😠😠 ! ! !
SO WHAT IF THE DOG HAS BEEN GIVEN ANESTHETIC FOR THE SURGERY, THE SURGERY'S STILL UNNECESSARY ! ! ! ! !
Don't dogs need their tail anyway, for balance & so they don't have bad back pain. ANY & ALL VETS SHOULD BE ASHAMED & SHOULD BE PUBLICLY SHAMED FOR CROPING OR DOCKING ANY DOGS, THEIR VET LICENSE & PRACTICE SHOULD BE UNDER REVIEW, IF NECESSARY, IT SHOULD BE REVOKED & POSSIBILITY OF JAIL 😠😠😠😠😠.
ANY & ALL COSMETIC SURGERY ON DOGS IS VIEL & SICKENING, UNLESS IT'S ACTUALLY MEDICALLY NECESSARY FOR FOR THE DOG TO FUNCTION PROPERLY, IT SHOULDN'T BE DONE ! ! ! ! !
SOCIETY & INDIVIDUALS SHOULDN'T BE PUTTING UP WITH SUCH VIEL & SICKENING BEHAVIOUR.
EVERYONE SHOULD BE QUESTIONING, WHY IS IT MEDICALLY NECESSARY FOR THE DOG TO BE CROPPED OR DOCKED, IS IT FOR MEDICAL REASONS OR IS IT JUST FOR YOUR OWN PERSONAL SICK GRATIFICATION 😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠😠

For hunting dogs it IS necessary to dock the tails for certain hunting dog breeds. For example Springer and Cocker Spaniels. Their tails would grow into a curved upward hook shape which would snag, get stuck and get wounded all the time when maneuvering around bushes and brambles. Hunting dogs don't get their ears cropped tho...only groomed.
