Great episode guys! Lately I’ve been learning about vagus nerve stimulation and hacks to activate this. It’s amazing what you can do with conscious breathing. You mentioned some great strategies there!
Man I’ve had this problem forever! I already work in an auto shop the entire day, wired from a busy day at work and then I go straight to BJJ after a short break. I have been taking CBD oil 35mg, 2.5mg Melatonin and 100mg of Magnesium Glycinate post workout and it’s been great. If I wake up (I always do!) around 3am, I’ll eat a small meal of protein and fat and I sleep real well after that. The next day after the inflammation goes down a little, I’ll eat some carbs and that always helps. Oddly enough if I spike my insulin right after training I feel like crap the next day, but if I skip a day and let my body recover, it uses the carbs much better not sure why.
@@bulletproofforbjj lol I’ve actually used 2.5 mg of Melatonin for the last two years. I’m trying to use it less frequently but also, I live in Alaska where the spring and summer we get nearly 20 hours of sunlight! During the winter it flips and we then get 20-22 hours of sheer darkened so my sleeping has always been haywire. I also been using CBD for the last year and it’s a real game changer. I just started experimenting with adding THC and that one is a slippery slope that’s for sure lol. Many nights I’ve tried playing with that combo and it’s a hit or a miss. Some nights I sleep like a baby, other nights I just get high AF and have to ride the wave. I won’t even mention the far out dreams I get lol. Eventually it became too much so I had to tone it all down because I would feel so loopy going to work the next day, then I started taking the CBD/THC just to feel good and take the edge off any time during the day. Not a good habit to start at all. Plus I started using it as a bandaid to over work and over train (because it’s an anti inflammatory and masks pain), but my body broke down way too much then I’d need a week or so off of training. Not good. Anywho, yeah. Cautionary tale for sure lol 😂

Thanks for watching! There is some super fascinating research being done around the vagus nerve at the moment. It's a cool area to learn more about.

Have you seen Hubermans podcast on melatonin? Worth a watch. It's powerful stuff, not something I'd want to use on a regular basis.
