Tea's Pac-man got edge-guarded more in this set than his entire career. You could tell he initially didn't know what to do because it never happens to him.
That's legit what happened when i first played a good Puff lol.
I could tell he knew exactly what to do, but a guy like BassMage brought a level of skill to Puff in Smash Ultimate that none other has. He is the Hbox of Ultimate, and that says a lot, Hbox plays Ultimate regularly and can't best him!
If anyone can edge guard a genius like Tea, it's a genius like BassMage. On God.

Tea has been doing stuff like this with Pac-Man since Smash 4, and honestly, I'm surprised he didn't pick up an FGC sooner, but I'm glad the one he picked up was Kazuya. Dude literally uses a stun mechanic as his main kill confirm. *Ring any bells?*

I loved this set!
Pac-Man merely adopted the recovery. Jigglypuff was born in it. Molded by it. By the time the Puff was edge guarded, it had already evolved into a Wigglytuff.

My two favorite players to watch
Damn, that looked very impressive from BassMage, cause, and I might be wrong, but I feel like Jigglypuff has an awful matchup against pacman. Plus, usually, Tea's opponents don't dare to edgeguard him, but BassMage did and never really got punished for it, at worst he would fail to kill pacman, not get significant damage.

What else are you gonna do as puff? Get zoned out? It's a pretty crushing match-up for puff the options aren't great, and probably felt that his secondaries aren't good enough

Tea is just too good. Just two different levels of skill between him and bassmage.
Tea's really good but... no, Jiggly puff has a REALLY hard time against pac man. A jigglypuff having a record like bass' literally can't mean they're of two different caliburs.

Matchup advantage means little at this level of gameplay.
BassMage and Tea are at similar levels. The problem is, Tea seems to have stupendous match-up knowledge, to the point that he has matchup data for his matchup data. He knows too fucking much. He always does something new, something amazing.
BassMage is identically talented. The problem is, compared to Tea, he's just not experienced enough. I could tell in some interractions, while BassMage could plan around Tea, Tea always had a plan for that plan. It's absurd how far ahead Tea thinks in a short time, it's no wonder he starts pulling off reversals off the likes of Mr.R as early as last stock Game 1.
And yes, if you ask me, Jigglypuff is just Pac-Man without projectiles. This would be an outright stomp if Pac-Man's tools weren't exploitable. Still, I didn't expect him to YOINK the trampoline in Game 1. That was sick. We can definitely learn from this set just how capable Jigglypuff can be against Pac-Man despite it's shortcomings, thanks to BassMage's ingenuity.
@@Aflay1 I'm not gonna discredit teas genius but I'm gonna say you're wrong about match up advantage. There's a reason counterpicks exist and that's simply because some characters do really well vs others. In this meta where solo maining is more impractical than otherwise, you're not going to tell me that doesn't matter- that a bad mu exists and can always be made up for at top level.
9:34 Thats another reason why Ultimate is a much more intricate game than melee ya just dont get these kinds of offstage interactions. The offstage game is an entirely different game within a game that Melee cant offer
Reversals arent common at all in Melee since the game doesnt give you the tools to do so. Im Ultimate not only do you have to worry about reversaling the reversal but getting reversed after your reversal.
In Ultimate BOTH players have ample offensive and defensive tools for every situation but in Melee, if your recovery is trash, youre a trash character. Period. Melee helps the edgeguarder tremendously but Ultimate gives every character a chance to survive due to the game engine
Just look at Aegis. Bottom 5 recovery but still top tier. In Melee Aegis would be mid tier at best but probably still unplayable

Even Pac. Ya hit the little ball before Pac eats it for his side B and hes done for. Ya only get 3 jumps on his trampoline so what i like to do is jump on it right after his 2nd bounce and he falls to his doom
His recovery is top tier but it aint head and shoulders above the other amazing recoveries. Samus is another who could be in that convo
I don't think Pac-Man's recovery is necessarily the best. It's definitely top tier.
Pac-Man is just an amazing, versatile character compared to characters like Sonic and Sora. It also helps that the best Pac-Man player is a mad genius who always thinks of some unbelievable shit.
Pac-Man is capable of so much, that giving him such a great recovery is overkill. Back in Smash 4, Pac's recovery was just as amazing, but it didn't matter because he had to work with poor aerial frame data for the damage, and a lot of characters like Luigi and Bayonetta dominated the game with one-hit kill combos you couldn't take your chances with. Ultimate took Pac-Man's aerials from mediocre to exceptional.
No one man should have all that power, but if any man does have it, it's Pac-Man.

Like... You clearly havent watched high lvel sonic play if you think Pac has an OUTRIGHT better recovery than sonic or especially Sora. But sonic has spin dash/charge, homing attack, and can act after of his up B.
Cant really say which is *better* but both are equally top tier recoveries.
@@Aflay1 You sound reasonable but Sonic is literally top 5 most versatile characters in the game. Probably most versatile as he and Steve have no bad matchups. Unlike Pac Man, Sonic can get over his "bad" matchups by merely changing playstyle (much to the chagrin of Ultimate players lol). Pac Struggles with reflectors on certain characters hence why Tea uses Kazuya. Ive never seen Sonic main use a secondary. Like never... That speaks volumes to his versatility
Like... All of the top Sonics play drastically different. Wrath, Sonido, Ken, (upset at myself for drawing a blank on many of the other fantastic sonic players) have wildly different playstyle
