    This was really great guys! I would love to see a similar tutorial of how to actually drop these 3d models into a video and some sort of beginners guide to animating them. Cheers!

      A 3d scan is extremely dense. It's great for static meshes but not so great for animation. You would most likely have to remodel the scanned 3d model and put in the proper edge loops so the model bends and folds in the proper areas.

    I once used 123D Catch to make a 3D model, it's an online Autodesk program.
    You have to make a lot of pictures of your model and the software makes a 3D model of it. Works great :)

    How much did those miniature cost in shapeways??

  • @RagnarKonzi
    @RagnarKonzi 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    If you dont have a kinect you could generate a pointcloud of your body via structure from motion (a series of images from differnet angles) and then generate a mesh out of it! Visual SFM and meshLab are two free tools

  • @CBSuper
    @CBSuper 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Awesome use of a Kinect. How bad is the mesh topology? Is it unusable for animation? Does the software use a base topological model (like a Z-brush type of model) or is it just a bunch of thrown-together crap? Thanks and great info video!

    • @CorridorCrew
      @CorridorCrew  9 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Generally the models aren't suitable for animation, but if you run them through dynamesh/zbrush or Wrap-it they clean up nicely!

    In theory, if you stood in the T-pose could this be used to make yourself into a riggable 3D character? Also, does reconstructme capture colour data like skanect or is it a matter of texturing it yourself?

    • @CorridorCrew
      @CorridorCrew  9 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      Yes it does. But as mentioned in the vid - it's a little tougher to work with. It spits out .ply files instead of a model with a texture map.

    • @AirBiscuit
      @AirBiscuit 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      samandniko How many faces did the mesh at 5:39 have in the end? I'm assuming it's extremely high.
      Also, I just had a look and reconstruct me is way beyond my price range, so it looks like it's a fevered dream for me for now.

  • @PatoCrioyo
    @PatoCrioyo 9 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hey, have you tried Autodesk's 123D Catch? With that you wouldn't need a Kinect camera to 3D scan, just a regular digital camera, and from what I've seen in some of the models that are uploaded in their site, things can be much more accurately scanned, with higher resolution textures and finer detail (there are some ceramic sculpted skulls that look incredible, with flowered textures and lots of tiny details).
    I don't know how the clean-up would be in this case, but I guess it wouldn't differ much from your process. I'm going to try it soon on a project!

    • @CartoonCorey
      @CartoonCorey 9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      samandniko Thanks! You know what, I'm totally doing this. Sad I don't have my Xbox anymore, but I'll buy a Kinect just for this! I wonder if these would work with the Element 3D plug in from Video Copilot? Though maybe I should teach myself actual 3D work and aspire to CorridorDigital visuals.
      That's what I love about you guys. Millions of views and subscribers, but you don't cater to your audience so much that you lose your sense of self. You make what you love, bettering yourselves all along the way, but you still stay connected to the audience and help out fellow filmmakers when you can. You're doing it right. I hope one day you can be on the big screen, but maybe corrupt Hollywood doesn't need to mess around with your talent. Keep on going, Sam and Niko!
