      Devesh Varma I watch her because she is an overcomer, and I love her story and attitude!! She has an oratory gift as well. My grandpa has an ostomy, and watching her has educated me and give me a lot of good tips and tricks to use in helping him

    Awesome. I use the same pouch. Once I went to disposable I'll never back. So much easier. Great channel!

    Thanks! I use the coloplast paste. It's awesome. Unless you have a "wardrobe malfunction" an hour after a change. Removing semi dried paste was a nightmare at 2am!

    How many times a day do you have to change your bag with the non-drainable? My surgery is on January 4, 2021. Nervous about all I will need to get. You are helpful. Thank you for helping understand the process. I am pretty scared about it but watching you is helping me see how in can become my normal. Any suggestions that I need to ask my surgeon or nurses? Please keep me in your thougths and prayer. Thank you

    Best thing I ever did was surgery after 10 years of ulcerative colitis messing up my life. Maggie's dead-on here for ileostomy supplies. My setup's a little different from hers in minor details, but those 14603 wafers are the ONLY product I'd recommend for ileostomy. I was originally issued the 14103 by the hospital, but my output is very caustic and would actually disintegrate the plastic immediately next to the stoma. This led to leaks and pretty serious skin irritation. Now I use a 14603 with a Hollister Adapt 7805 (a secondary ring that goes under the 14603 and hugs the stoma.) The 7805 creates a "turtle neck" and affords me longer wear time -- a minimum of 4 days, and as much as 6 days without either skin irritation from the adhesive, or erosion from output creeping under the appliance. I use drainable Hollister New Image bags, Lock and Roll (velcro-like) types, either 18003 clear or 18103 beige. I use the same pouch for the whole period of days, emptying and cleaning the output end as needed. For rare instances where I want a smaller bag for a while (such as social events) I keep 18283 pouches on hand. These are beige, 7" versions of the same basic style. Swap on, then click on another full-size when I'm done. The Cavilon barrier paint will save your skin (literally) if some output does creep between the barrier and your body, giving you at least a period of hours before the output will eat through it. The one method I quibble with here is the "crusting" of the powder. I use powder only if I do get a small amount of erosion. It's really just meant to draw the weeping moisture up from the inflamed skin for a minute or so. Once that's done, paint Cavilon over it just once and the powder will basically integrate with the Cavilon. I see no benefit to multiple applications, but YMMV,and a number of people seem to think it's beneficial. This is a good channel, Maggie's embraced what can be a trying situation.

    Maggie i was just wondering how many bags you would go through in a day ? I use coloplast one piece but i do supper from allergies round the outside of the base plate so im on the lookout for something new. My skin doesnt agree with the new mio coloplast bags. And i remember using hollister two piece bags when i got my ostomy four years ago. I try not to change my bag too often cause of the allergies. So i try to do it only every four days. Thanks for the great video as always.

    How many bags do you go through a day? I'm a new ostomate (ileostomy) and never thought closed pouches were an option. Can you share how you use them with an ileostomy (ie, how many you go through a day, how you change the bag without any messes, etc)? It would be really helpful bc not many people with ileostomies are told closed bags are an option! Thanks so much... Your videos have been incredibly helpful for me pre and post op! 🤗

    Maggie, how many of the pouches do you use per day. Sixty would only be 2 per day. Do you get more than one box.

    At 2:40, you mention the #14603 wafer. Have you tried the #11203? The #11203 is basically the "Cera Plus" version of the #14603; it's supposed to be better for the skin. (I switched from #14603 to #11203 myself.) If you use #11203, you might not need other products, like skin barrier spray, stoma powder, etc. I still use stoma powder, but I use it _after_ I apply the wafer to the skin (before attaching the pouch). I squirt the powder around the base of the stoma, into the cracks where the stoma comes through the hole in the wafer. I've never seen anybody use stoma powder like that. :-)

      I actually have been trying that the last few weeks and my skin seems to dislike the Cera line, plus I can't get it to stick. I will try your method though!! That is definitely a unique way!

    • @daapdary
      @daapdary 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@LetsTalkIBD At least you tried the CeraPlus. Sorry to hear it doesn't work as well. It's been a while, but I'll re-order a box of #14603 to see if it sticks better for me. I forgot to mention that I use the #8815 Adapt CeraRing, which is very sticky. Maybe not as sticky as the #7815 ring (without CeraPlus). :-)

    Why do you use paste over a barrier ring like Eakin?

  • @bvalan6648
    @bvalan6648 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    Hi Can you please try and make a video after using Coloplast SenSura Mio and use Eakin Seals ( no - alcohol does not burn the skin) I'll bet you will never go back to holister...... cheers Brent this is all I use sometimes in the field camping etc I will use the Eakin Paste .... easier and quicker to use but does not last as long..... these are the only products I use .... no soap no remover just warm water and wash cloth ....
    try it .... Although all this said I have on order some Silken ... supplies so I 'll see how this goes thanks the videos....

    Non-drainables wouldn't be good for a colostomy, would it? Doesn't a colostomy put out more than an ileostomy?

    • @VeganOstomy
      @VeganOstomy 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Non-drainable (a.k.a. closed-ended pouches) are ideal for colostomates or people who have infrequent output (less than a few times a day). An ileostomy outputs more than a colostomy.
